Incredibly pricey and small portions, $14 for a bowl (size of a cup) of soup. Glass of Kim Crawford is $16, you can buy the bottle at Costco for $14. Sit outside, worth the wait.

If you are seeking a quiet, lovely, and relaxing place to enjoy brunch with friends, Oak Grill is your venue. The food is very high quality, the service is excellent, and the ambience is one of the best in OC. This is a place for folks interested in lingering, talking, and enjoying a meal.
very pleasant setting for Sunday breakfast. mostly hotel guests so not very crowded. Beautiful elegant dining room plus patio seating under giant shade trees. relaxed atmosphere . plan to return.
We tried Oak Grill for the first time on Valentine’s Day. It was a prefix menu at $125 per person with a 18% tip that was paid in advance just to hold the reservation. We had heard many good things about Oak Grill and we’re looking forward to a wonderful seafood dinner. The menu was a huge disappointment bland chicken McNuggets for the first course the only course that really left an impression was the 3rd course, filet mignon. The rest of the meal would have been a huge disappointment at half that price point. We’re going to give them a try in March one more time because we’ve heard many good things but I can save it for Valentine’s Day meal was very disappointing!

The Valentine's preset menu was tasty but forgettable, except for the dessert, which was embarrassingly dry. For the price, it all should have been more memorable. The cocktails were wonderful, though.
Valentine's was advertised as having live piano music - they didn't tell me when I made my patio reservation that the pianist was only able to be heard inside. The outside patio had weird trance music playing. So that was frustrating. Plus, there was supposed to be a photo booth - but it was broken and none of the staff seemed to have any idea how it worked. So, very disappointing.
Also, the service was bad. They forgot our first course, and tried to bring our second course after almost 40 minutes, when we had to remind them that we hadn't had our first course yet. They brought the wrong dishes to the table next to us. They brought us a wine bottle (which at first I assumed was because we were celebrating a birthday in addition to Valentine's - but no) which they then came back for and took away, saying that wasn't for us. Okay. Bear in mind, the price for the Valentine's event came to $340 for 2 people - and that didn't include the cocktails we ordered. They didn't check on us between courses - just came and brought the next course at the same time they took empty plates away. We had to ask for water refills twice.
They also asked us if we had any food allergies (I had already notified them of this when I made the reservation), and we reminded them of my husband's dairy allergy. We made sure to order all non-dairy options, so that was fine, but then they brought him a dessert filled with Chantilly cream. Why even ask? He couldn't eat it and they never came back to check on us so we couldn't even let them know.
I had been here once before for a work dinner, and it was a lovely experience, but booking this place for Valentine's Day/my husband's birthday was a mistake. I wish I'd gone pretty much anywhere else.

Wonderful experience as always. Sitting near the door want my favorite but now I know! The piano player was wonderful. Food was delicious. They were wonderful with my young son, and the service from the time you valet to dessert is unparalleled.

The outside seating provides a wonderful date night ambience with live soft music performed in the background. Everything came together really nicely.
We had a very enjoyable experience overall. The patio is lovely and our server was attentive, professional and courteous--outstanding. My less-than-perfect score is regarding our food choices. My crabcake BLT was very dry, needing mayonnaise or a side of tartar sauce. I would reorder with those requests. The lobster salad was disappointing overall. The server was very clear about the bitter greens and my husband should have asked for other baby greens. He was not completely satisfied with the dressing; would not reorder this dish. We love the Fashion Island Hotel and look forward to our next visit to enjoy a lovely room, good food, ambience and music at the firepit area and particularly we will return because of the wonderful staff who, without exception, treat us so graciously.

Server would disappear for too long. Then he got the bill wrong TWICE. To his credit, me had the manager adjust the bill with a major discount, but the errors were only found by me double checking the bill. How many times did people get overcharged who did not check their bill?
The only complaint was the fact that the Bar pour is 2 ounces at best. When the waiter was asked about what appeared to be a short pour he said that they have a strict 2 ounce pour - which, based on the price, is below standard. If I were the owner or manager I would have someone monitor that to make sure it is being done correctly. Clearly wine is the best choice......for the price I am surprised that it is not a 2 ounce pour also.
First time here. Delicious potato/cauliflower soup, and Chocolate Latte Cake; helpful, friendly service.
It was a special occasion for us and they did not disappoint! The meal was good, I enjoyed the DineNB 3 course meal: the beet salad with endive and fried goat cheese was an experience, the rigatoni was alright but nothing spectacular, the dessert was wonderfully light and not overly sweet. My fiance enjoyed his crab cakes and the chia seed encrusted salmon, the mole sauce had the right amount of heat and savoriness. The chia seeds gave an interesting bite and were welcome versus the overplayed panko or flour coatings. He loved his chocolate dessert. The server was very accommodating even giving us a surprise. We will definitely be searching out this restaurant again.
We dined here on last Sunday evening. The food was overall pretty good, and the ambience felt upscale. Our main waiter was friendly and helpful. However, the server who brought our food out from the kitchen was a bit unpleasant. After he brought our appetizers out, we asked him to take a photo of us. He hesitated, rolled his eyes, and said "Sure, but I'm really busy right now." Meanwhile, the restaurant was half empty! That was extremely rude and uncalled for.
Sunday brunch in the outdoor patio couldn't have been nicer....delicious food, atmosphere and company.

Nice business casual setting. We went for restaurant week special and was bummed that they sold out of fish and chips, enjoyed tuna melt instead. Drinks were delicious, food was good and plentiful, service was the best. The only downside was the kale salad was not the greatest.
We loved the entertainment! What a nice touch to a lovely evening. The staff was very attentive and the food was very good. We throughly enjoyed ourselves. The signage on the outside needs improvement. We didn’t realize it was in the hotel.

The best "hotel" restaurant in Orange County. Better than Marriott and even Andrea. Very surprised by the upscale ambiance. The only thing I would suggest is a bit more items on the menu. Food was excellent.
First, Oak Grill is in Island Hotel near Fashion Island. Got there 15 minutes before reservations. Hostess asked us to wait outside in lobby area. After 25 minutes, I checked in again. Told to wait. Then in another 20 minutes, hostess comes over to say she was looking for me with a beige blouse but I had put on my black jacket. Totally unacceptable. Patio did not feel very relaxing. And to make things worse, a very young child walked away from her parents and group several times. Took parents several minutes before they even noticed. Back and forth so many times. It was extremely annoying. Wish someone could have told them not to have their child run around unsupervised. My omelet was good & my husband loved his eggs benedict. Too bad their hostess, patio atmosphere and that unsupervised child spoiled it for us. The only saving grace was our amazing waiter Son (Sonny). Without his excellent and friendly service, eating here would have been a regrettable choice for New Year's day. Thank you, Sonny!
Arrived at noon with a noon reservation on New Year’s Day. Website indicated a lunch menu or brunch menu available. Did not get seated until waiting 12 minutes with clearly the restaurant understaffed. Service was slow and perfunctory. Menu was Limited to breakfast items only.
Stayed at the Fashion Island Hotel after a big New Year's Eve Party and hosted a small brunch the next morning in one of the Oak Grill's private rooms. The food, the service and the ambience was exceptional. We were a little nervous since it was New Year's morning, but Chelle Crocket who set up the event for us didn't miss a detail, and all of the staff that worked with us that morning were completely on their game, from Stacey, the MOD in the Oak Grill, to the bartender Jake to our server Noe. Our guests enjoyed themselves and many commented on how the excellence of the food and service, and how lovely the room was.
Every single thing we ordered was fantastic - the Lobster Salad, the Fried Chicken and Biscuits, the Reuben Panini, the pancakes, the bagels and salmon, the Belgian waffle, omelets - all good. Give it a try next time you are in Newport.
