Oak at fourteenth Ratings and Reviews
We live near downtown and love to dine out. Three times in recent memory we have had to wait almost an hour after ordering before getting our entrees. The most recent was Friday night - we arrived just after 9 (late so tables clearing out), received fast service for ordering and got our salad within a reasonable amount of time, but did not get our entrees until almost 10:30 - our server did not even acknowledge the huge wait. We are now done with Oak and will let friends thinking of going to plan on a 45-60 minute wait after ordering. This is not our experience at any of the other higher end restaurants in downtown.
I love coming to this restaurant when I am in town. Service is incredible, this restaurant has a very imaginative chef. The flavors and mixed textures in every dish are incredible. Great mixed bar drinks as well. We made a dinner of appetizers all four were great. Just can't go wrong here!!
I love this restaurant! The food is creative and delicious, while the atmosphere is still totally unpretentious. My husband and I only get to Boulder once a year. Our fabulous meal last year made me book it again this year, and it was just as good. Highly recommended for foodies.
It is too warm in the restaursnt you need ceiling fans
Thermostat said 84 degrees and it was 95 outside
Service was very very good from hostess to servers
Food was ok
Not really great not as good as people said
We will come back and try again
We had hangar steak, octopus, pasta with peas, pork
We felt pork was best
This is my 3rd meal at Oak over the past year, and they have exceeded expectations each visit. The server was both extremely attentive and knowledgeable with intricacies of not only the food, but also the cocktail and wine list. We shared 3 small plates, that were all fantastic, one being the basic fried pickles with a green goddess dipping sauce, that is 2nd to none compared to any of the top area restaurants. Their batter is light and airy, and is the perfect batter to pickle ratio, between that batter texture and pickle chip thickness. We also had the hamachi crudo appetizer with a passion fruit and citrus sauce that was to die for. The cheese and fava bean app was delicious as well and extremely well balanced. my date had the mushroom tortellini in a light parmesan and lemon sauce, while I had the Halibut over a mixed heirloom bean salad and a green olive tapenade, which was very nice balance between the light perfectly seared fish, the hearty & savory bean salad and the salt tapenade. We were too full for desert, and we both enjoyed excellently mixed cocktails and 2 nice glasses of wine that paired nicely with our dinners.
Three of us were celebrating a roommate's Birthday, and we had a fantastic time. We all agreed that the service was flawless, the best any of us have experienced in Boulder. I also had the best cocktail I've ever tasted, the "Wanderlust." Our food was cooked perfectly, the flavor combinations were to die for, and they took great care of me with my Celiac disease and I felt very safe eating there. I will recommend this restaurant to everyone I know, it's now my favorite Metro area restaurant in Colorado. I lived in Denver for ten year and was married to a chef, and I've enjoyed many a fine dining meal across the United States. This one was above and beyond anything I've experienced so far, thank you Oak at fourteenth!
We brought my parents to Oak for my dad's birthday. The service was excellent, with great ambiance, and delicious food. Talented bartenders - let them flex their mixology muscle. Don't order a traditional drink - get it upgraded with artisanal bitters. They're like magicians with alcohol!
The food was fantastic as always. Drinks were great. Normally we received fantastic service as well, but was a little off on this visit. We were misquoted on how something would be served, my husband's wine was spilled by the server. They refilled with a 1/2 glass... And, while a few more sips of said wine remained, they removed the glass from the table before my husband could finish it.
We were not offered bread, had to ask for the first time ever. Just not on the mark this time. Expect more from Oak, as it's usually stellar.
I highly recommend this restaurant! Great for foodies and if you enjoy a good cocktail. My husband is a "cocktail" snob :) and the bartender was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. The shrimp and grits were amazing and I'd recommend the oyster risotto to almost anyone!
Would definitely go again! Even my in-laws loved it! Cheers.
The food was very peppery. The grits were especially hot and spicy, but there seemed to be some pepper in everything, usually much more than we are used to. It was sufficient to impair the flavor. The noise was great at first, but decreased as the room emptied.
Although I do recommend this establishment, my first encounter was odd. I nearly lost a tooth when I bit into an olive pit. I showed the waiter who asked "You didn't lose a tooth did you?" I said no, and he said "Oh good". Pretty much it. Another man brought our dessert later and made a small joke that "hopefully no pits in your ice cream." So I was disappointed that although a major error was made in a 5 star foodie restaurant, that I was not given a formal apology and I was not offered any concession such as free something or coupon for next meal. And they knew it was our 36th Wedding Anniversary. Hmmmm ... Now that I think on it, I am sure I will never return.
I love this restaurant. You know it's a great place when there's a line of people waiting before it opens.
Imaginative delicious food. My daughter was leary of "fancy" food but loved it.
Exceptional service. Truly.
You can not go wrong dining here.
My husband and I love this restaurant and try to dine here before every show we attend at the Boulder Theater, down the block. We made the mistake of ordering the bone-in rib eye for two last Sunday evening and waited about 50 minutes for your meal. While waiting, it seemed our waiter had left town, even though we could see him tending to other guests. Food and drinks always delicious, but service was lacking this particular evening.
Lots of hype for this trendy Boulder spot, and while the food is very good, I would not recommend for dining experience nor service. Seated at a two-top just outside the hallway to the kitchen and restroom. Staff constantly kicked my chair and ran into my arms, which really enhances your Oak experience. Asked if we could turn table and sit together, no. Asked if we could sit at the open four-top, no. Five minutes later, another couple seated at the four-top. In fact several four-tops had just couples. Finally got the GM to bring a glass of wine when served our dinner plates. For this kind of coin, Frasca is happy to let me sit with my loved one without being run over by staff and offer to keep my glass filled.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent!!! The menu was a little limited in selections.
I ordered the Hanger Steak, and my wife ordered the Half Chicken.
The Hanger Steak had 3 pieces of steak, each about 1 - 2 oz. in size, about 4 Asparagus Spears cut up, and served on a tasty grain. I felt the portion size was very small for the price $30. Small value for the price. It was tasty, but a very small portion. I left the restaurant still a little hungry.
The 1/2 Check was just that. It was served atop mixed veggies. You could taste the Oak smoke in them both. Very tasty!!
If I return, I'll pass on the Hanger Steak and order the Half Chicken.
Excellent food. Service this time was a bit disjointed. Too many folks touching the table, and it seemed a bit more frantic than in the past. Drink order went missing, but was comped as soon at it was delivered (well after the entree was served). Nice touch to pre-emptively take care of this. Highly recommend the burger and the ramen. Nicely done.
