Oak and Ember Whiskey Bar and Grill Ratings and Reviews
Lots of changes have taken place at Oak and Ember. It seems as the portions on the plates have decreased. They made changes to the steak sauce menu as well, removing two of the best sauces.! (Please bring back the blue cheese sauce!!) The side of mac and cheese that used to be gooey and delicious lacked the main ingredient, cheese. We used to crave Oak and Ember, as they have the best filet around. However after all these recent changes we will skip a visit or two in hopes they will improve a bit.
Once again, we had a great meal and a great time at Oak & Ember. The staff are service oriented and knowledgeable. The food is presented beautifully and is delicious and interesting. The bar makes a very good drink. We always enjoy our time at Oak & Ember. It's worth many visits.
I have visited OAE for the past four years for my birthday. The only year that I did not go is when they went Mexican. The first year I went was phenomenal. I even got a recipe from the chef in exchange for a review. Last year was phenomenal. The choices were different but they still had an excellent prix fixe menu. We went back an additional night and bought three dinners and a peach and berry crumble because the food was so good. Today I am appalled that I spent 137.00 for our dinners. The bitter for the bread has changed and lacked taste. The serving portions were very small for the money. Four sea scallops, 12 green beans and a 1/3 cup of mashed potatoes was sparse for 28 dollars. My daughters 25 dollar steak was supposed to be medium rare and it was cooked to medium well. The steak was very small so I did not notice it was over cooked Until we were at home looking in the cardboard take home containers we were given. How tacky? I was angry that I paid for the steak as I did not know it was not cooked correctly until I got home. The fried chicken lacked seasoning but was not dry which was great. I ordered a side of Mac and cheese that seemed old. I also ordered a negroni that was garnished with a lemon wedge instead an orange peel. That's a big deal for a whiskey bar. I was honest with the waiter and manager who were more interested in me mispronouncing prix fixe. The manager really needs some work in the area of customer service. His position and the chef could bring down the whole establishment. Just sad...I don't mind paying a lot for the food if it is awesome. The menu has dwindled along with the choices. The meat selections that were awesome have been replaced with burgers. Burgers and whiskey, really? This used to be the highlight of our stay but it has come to an end.
Two of us had burgers. Way too much pepper on the burgers. One of us had the caesar salad with steak tips. The olive tapenade was OVER-powering and the steak tips were large pieces of steak. Overall, good possibilities but needs some thought, refinement and better execution.
Unfortunately, previous experiences were only partially true last night. It was girls night out. The steak was overdone! The chicken was good. But the waiter was mighty full of himself and figured the older women needed cosseting and flirting. Unfortunately for him, we're happily married- the flirting fell on fallow ground.
My boyfriend and I were visiting Mashpee and luckily found this restaurant. Everything from the interier to the menu are very impressive. We had such a good time. The food was creative and delishious. The service was attentive and plesant. This place is our favorite now in Mashpee.
Had another fantastic meal on the terrace last night (great ambiance!). I had a burger that I'm still thinking about today because it was so fantastic! It was high quality beef chopped.
I had grilled vegetables with it which were wonderful as well. One of our group had a filet mignon he was thrilled with. We finished the meal with a perfect creme brûlée.
We've been here a couple of times and enjoyed the experience. This last visit was somewhat disappointing due to chef specials not being available at 7:30 PM and the restraint was not overly crowded. Cappuccino machine was not functioning. The substitute coffee was not fresh. Somewhat disappointing after having had a couple great experiences prior to this past weekend. Having said that, we had very good service and the food was at least four stars and bordering on five. Wine list is great along with one of the most outstanding whiskey and scotch menus!! Although disappointed this visit, we do not see this as a reason not to return to this restaurant. If we experience the same issues next visit, our feelings may change. I recommend the restaurant to anyone who wants good food, good ambiance and comfortable setting.
They chill their red wine by the glass! That killed the taste of their wine, which should be at room temp. Waiter didn't know much about wine. We ordered charcuterie board and they didn't even tell us what meat and cheese selections were on the board. Food was mediocre. Poor management.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Oak & Ember. The cheese plate was exceptional and the scallops were the best I have ever had. Wish we had room for dessert because the people next to us had dessert that just looked wonderful, but next time. Our waitress was very attentive but did not rush us. We will definitely be back.
Ambiance, food & service was superb! Informing our server that we needed to make a movie, she submitted & served our meal quickly, both dinners were delicious. Unfortunately, did not have time for dessert...perhaps the next time & there will be a next time:))))
Maximo was awesome in every aspect as our 'friend' that night. It didn't feel like he was our waiter but more of a 'friend' making suggestions based upon what he knew and he left it up to us to make the final call. We're even considering having one of our family dinners there next year when we make our annual trip to Falmouth.
