We were a party of 6 and it was not very busy when we arrived. We were pleased with the selection of dishes and wine, but the wine we chose was out, so we had another choice which was very good. All the dishes were well prepared and mostly seasoned nicely. Often at Thai/Lao restaurants, I think the food is too salty from a heavy hand with fish sauce. Not so at O3. One of our dishes was accidentally not delivered, but we had already filled up with the other things we ordered so this was not a problem. Favorites were the crispy rice salad and the pad thai noodles. We also enjoyed the green curry shrimp. The shrimp were cooked perfectly - not over-done and rubbery as can happen. Four of us ordered the iced coffee, which was strong but a little too sweet for my taste. We were in and out in 90 minutes which felt leisurely and made it to our theater show in plenty of time.

we were looking for a place close to Davies Hall. The restaurant was perfect. A five minute, walk, not crowded, not loud and good Thai food. I was surprised it wasn't packed. Not the least expensive Thai food in the city, but definitely worth it. The ingredients seemed really fresh and the spice level was just right for us. Love finding a restaurant where everyone at the table can have a conversation without yelling. Highly recommend.

Everything was delicious. The portions were quite generous. We asked them to make the spicy dishes on the tame side and they were perfect. For five people we had three vegetable dishes to share (eggplant was a standout) and everyone had their own entree. We will be back!

Had a wonderful pre-theater dinner at O3. The food was tasty with lovely presentation, and the staff was attentive and friendly. Don't miss the signature cocktails.

O3 Bistro and Lounge is within walking distance from San Francisco City Hall on Van Ness Avenue. It's great for all the occasions I marked above. The Thai food is as expected, and service is acceptable. It's a mainstay for us employees at City Hall, very convenient.

Our entree arrived before two of our appitizers. The appetizers are good, not so much for the entrees. Go there because there is not much choice on that side of Van Ness and close to the opera house.

My brother and I needed a place for dinner close to the opera house. O3 Bistro is conveniently lacated within one block. I was looking forward to dining, but was a bit disappointed with the food and service. My brother ordered a seafood dish which was too spicey. The server did not warn him about the heat. I ordered the trout that came with a mountain of mango slivers. Presentation was nice, but the waitress should have cut and served this dish. It was difficult to get onto my plate. The lychee friut cocktail was delicious, but wait staff unattentive until the bill came. Then they hovered like vulchers waiting for the kill. I would go back for drinks only.

Wonderful, delicious meal with generous portions. Each of the 5 of us ordered something different, lamb, ribeye, chicken, coconut shrimp, etc. and each was spectacular and plenty to share. Very swift service allowed us plenty of time to visit, enjoy dinner, and make it to the ballet on time. I highly recommend.

The food here is good, however the service not so much. The wait staff is friendly, but they're not knowledgeable and they're extremely inefficient. Many also have trouble with English. They clearly need better training. If you're on your way to a performance, be sure to leave plenty of time.

Coconut shrimp dish was good. The spring roll was substandard. The only really great thing was the cocktail. Wish I'd known happy hour only applies to the bar area. Would've been happier paying less given the quality of the food

Laotian/Thai food. There was almost nothing on the menu I recognized, but our server was very helpful. My dinner partner and I shared a soup and a curry. Both were very flavorful and beautifully presented.

Great place! We ordered the chicken skins, chicken pad thai, fried trout, pork belly w/ Chinese broccoli, Thai iced tea and Sao Lao = all were really good, especially the trout and the chicken skins.

We had an early dinner, but noticed the live band/DJ set up. I'd be interested in checking that out at a later date.

The food was fabulous. The bar area was hopping. The place was full by 6:15. Very nice ambiance though tables were close together. Reasonable prices. Would have tried more dishes if we were a group but it was only two of us. We had soup...fantastic...and two main courses. One was the green curry rice with shrimp (shrimp was extra but they portion was generous). Fantastic. And we had fried whole trout with mango. Everything was amazing.

I highly recommend.

Server was courteous, prompt, and helpful to answer my friends' questions. Order of food service was a bit off. Maybe they were slammed in the BOH, but the tables were only 2/3 full.

The quantity of sticky rice was pathetically small ; beyond ridiculous. However, the Lao sausage was very good, not super spicy, not super salty, and I would recommend this dish to you pork lovers. Don't bother with the fried chicken wings, nothing special, just meh. In general, the dishes weren't really traditionally Lao spicy. Actually, not even close. Their dishes cater to folks who might like to dip their toe into Southeast cuisine. Slightly larger quantities of the salads would be greatly appreciated, especially at the price points that they ask.

The restaurant is beautiful and has a soothing ambiance. The staff people were very nice and attentive. I hope the chefs will bump up slightly the quantity and dramatically increase the flavor profiles of their appetizers and salads; they weren't bad, but they weren't outstanding either. I felt like they were exercising too much restraint for Isaan style food.

I want this place to succeed as we need more Asian restaurants in this area to complement the plethora of European restaurants in Civic Center.

Would I come back? Maybe. Its convenient location and really kind staff is a big plus.

We had a wonderful dinner before a show atSHN on Saturday night. The restaurant decor is very stylish. Our waitress was extremely helpful as my son has a severe dairy allergy. She keep checking with the kitchen and informing us of the dairy free dishes, which is a big plus in a restaurant. We were able to order completely dairy free food, so we could all share. The food comes quick and is plentiful. We plan to return next time we are in SF, great pre- theater location as well.

This was second visit and not as good. Waitress could hardly speak English. Went here before Jazz Center show. The ribeye salad was so tough that we had to send it back. The duck was very greasy. The seafood combo was good. I would only go back if there was no other place to eat early. Too bad. Nice atmosphere.

I reserved a table for seven for lunch. We arrived on time and was greeted by the hostess who guessed that we were the party with a reservation. We were promptly seated and given just enough time to peruse the menu. We ordered and the food was prepared really quick - it came out piping hot and aromatic. It was delicious. The pad Thai with chicken was good, but I was most impressed with the Pad Thai with shrimp; they were huge and I was told very good. A few had a rice dish and said that was good, as was the curry. The bill was a little more than $100 ad that included tax and tip. This will be my go to lunch spot when in the City.

Wanted to try this restaurant before going to the symphony. Entered at 6:15, with only 3 other tables occupied, it took the waitress 15 to 20mins to take our order. We were a bit concerned. However, once the food is ordered, they came quickly. We had the Tom Yum Gong soup, Lamb chop, basil eggplant, and a side of brown rice. All the dishes were delicious though a tad on the salty side. The lamb chop was especially well prepared - marinated and grilled to med rare with curry sauce on top. We ordered the Petite Syrah, which in hind sight we should have returned. It tasted like it's been opened for a while. Overall, food is exceptional. Service is good once you get some.

There are so very few good restaurants near The Orpheum, but this one qualifies.
Get there early enough to relax and enjoy your meal, then enjoy yet walk across Civic Center Plaza to the theater.

The food is very nicely presented, one even being served in a coconut. Everything was delicious. Everything had good flavors, fresh and served hot.

We started with appetizers and Tom Ka Kah soup. YUM!

Service with a smile, our food arrived just minutes after we ordered. The food was fantastic, it seemed more Thai and Laotian, but I probably couldn't tell you the difference anyhow! The only negative was that our appetizers arrived at the same time as our entrees. It would have been nice to enjoy the apps first... otherwise, incredible attention given by the friendly wait staff.

I posted a review of O3 in October, after we visited with a party of three. We returned to O3 the other night as a party of four.

As we'd ordered too much the previous time, we ordered a bit less this time, reprising some of the same dishes and trying a couple of new ones. We started with a green papaya salad that was delicious, but surprisingly spicy. As an appetizer, we had the sausages again. This time, however, they seemed slightly drier and perhaps a bit overcooked compared to the first time; they remain unlike any other sausages I've ever had and well worth ordering again. The lamb chops were as perfect as the first time except that the portion was smaller; technically, we got four chops again, but two thin ones were joined into a "larger" one, resulting in a serving that fed three not four. The duck noodles again were delicious but a bit on the greasy side. Finally, we ordered pork with string beans, which was nearly perfect; the pork was tender, the string beans were fresh as could be, and the seasoning was just right, but there was a bit of an oily residue at the bottom of the plate that might turn off some delicate palates. Again, we had both brown and white rice.

Service was extremely courteous and competent. With a Thai iced coffee and two ginger beers, the cost of the meal, with tax and a tip, was about $95, which is less than you'd pay for your own meal at several of the hipper places in the vicinity.

We tried a lot of different dishes, and loved them all. They did NOT turn on all the TV's, so it was a nice pre-opera dining experience. Lots and lots of servers running around, but it seemed very disorganized. We ordered the same thing from several different ones...some things they got right, some didn't arrive until 4 different servers were asked.

We have been there for happy hour many times and this was the first time on the week-end without it. The food was good, but the service was terrible. We were there pre-symphony. We were seated at 6:15 and at 7:05 had to complain as we had to be out of there as the symphony starts at 8. All of a sudden the food appeared, except for one person whose order could not be filled because it was sold out. How Could we wait 45 minutes to find this out???????? Not sure we will try this again when we are under pressure. We took some friends who we had told about our happy hour experience, but they said they probably would not go again. It also wouldn't hurt if their service people spoke better English.

After reading reviews, I thought I'd meet with friends for wine and dinner in a new restaurant. Everything was done well, from greeting us, a nice table location, good house wine, reasonable prices. We were all happy with our meals, from Chicken curry , tofu with eggplant, and catfish with a side salad. The portions were large, so each of us was able take food home for another meal. It's so convenient for going to any of the arts venues by City Hall. I look forward to returning.

We tried O3 because it had seating available at a particular time and was near our end destination. Otherwise, we had heard varying critiques of food and service,so we had a bit of trepidation.

No reason for the trepidation. Both food and service were exemplary. We started with pork larb, which included perfectly cooked ground pork, and a pair of very toothsome and flavorful Laotian sausages. Entrees were lamb chops with peanut sauce, a generous portion of lovely lean, tender, and flavorful meat at the modest price; the Laotian stew, which was the weak item on the table because the sauce was thin and not very distinctive; and the duck noodles, which were a tad greasy but otherwise absolutely delicious. With extremely fresh, perfectly-cooked spicy string beans and both brown and white rice, we had plenty to take home afterwards.

Service was unobtrusive but attentive. No complaints. Dishes arrived quickly enough for us to make our next destination, but there was no rush. Prices were more than fair, with the lamb being the most expensive dish at $19 for four meaty chops on a bed of vegetables.

We look forward to returning.

Well, we went here based on its proximity to the Tango Show we were going to that night. What we didn't expect was such a great meal! The green papaya salad was a bit too spicy for both of us and we ordered it "mild". Other than that, everything was so elegantly prepared, presented, and of course the taste was out of this world! The rib eye with chili sauce was outstanding--perfectly cooked to medium rare with a perfect accompaniment of chili sauce. Finally, the coconut curry with shrimp made for a perfect topping to the white rice. We agreed that the meal far surpassed our expectations and it was uncrowded for a Saturday night in the City! Thanks for an outstanding meal and expertly attentive service, Team O3! :-) We enjoyed it and will be telling our S.F. friends! Cheers!

I'm so glad there's a new Laotian restaurant on the scene. It's a nice, clean restaurant that is good for groups. The only dish I didn't like was the pork belly because it was overcooked. Other than that, everything else was delicious. I especially like the Nam Khao and Mok Bla.
