NOT A Authentic Japanese Omakase experience! Over rated For $250 the menu was very average, fill with cheap fish, mushrooms, and some of the cuts were chewy. The desert at the end was terrible, label something sweet in reality it was just over powering yogurt. Finally at the end we waited a good 5mins near the podium just to receive our coats. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. Personally grill steak at home was a better choice

Having high expectations toward Oya while having several disappointments. Food is fine with certain creativity. However, the way of cooking is not very traditional with a combination of Western style. Instead of the display of original food taste, the flavor is too heavy and too much. One huge downside is the atmosphere and background music. For traditional or typical Japanese restaurants, a quiet vibe is recommended in order to enjoy the meal. However, Oya uses disco, a bar voice level around 80-85 db, as bgm. A normal and formal meal for Japanese Omakase is around 3 hours. Under 80-85 db, the music will certainly harm human hearing permanently.

Everything was great other than one of the last courses that came with a “sip”. The sip turned out to be alcoholic and once I pointed out that I don’t drink, the waitress just took it away but did not replace it with anything. My partner would have been fine drinking it if there was no nonalcoholic option.

All around enjoyable experience, but not worth the $950 tab (two omakase and one bottle of champagne). The champagne was delicious, and while each of the 20 bites were good, nothing truly wowed us. I’m very well accustomed to omakase, and perhaps I’m more of a purist, but it seems O Ya tries too hard to get creative with their dishes, rather than focusing on perfecting the rice and serving the best quality fish they can find. Waitstaff were wonderful and on top of everything. Hostess was oddly overly-chatty and informal when we walked in - just seemed a little unprofessional (perhaps we gave off a chatty vibe, so maybe it was our fault, I don’t know). With prices this high, it’s not unreasonable to expect perfection - and this just didn’t cut it. So while it was an enjoyable meal, I likely won’t be back anytime soon.

There is a good reason it's considered the best restaurant in Boston. This was an absolute treat. The Omakase was divine and the servers were incredibly knowledgeable about each item and appropriate pairing. Sitting at the chef's counter was an added treat as we could see the preparation of each course as it came to us. Standout favorites included the Ora King Salmon and both cuts of Blue Fin sashimi.

The food was exceptional. We did the tasting menu and wine pairing. The place and service were not at the same level as the food itself. For such an expensive dinner I just expect all the details to be perfect.

The food was excellent! The only place to go for sushi in my mind. Well worth the price. It's definitely a special occasion type of place. From the first course the the last course, you won't be disappointed. The flavors of every dish plays well with each other. You need to make a reservation 2 months ahead of time so make sure to plan it ahead. The service was amazing. The attention to detail, learning what's in each dish, knowing the process of how it's prepared, all the small touches were fantastic! They work at a team and everything went smoothly! We were definitely filled by the time we finished the 20 course. I'm definitely coming back.

There are two prerequisites to enjoying a meal here: you must be an adventurous eater and you must like seafood. If so, it it well worth the cost and difficulty of getting a reservation. If you are ambivalent on either, go find an overpriced steakhouse.

The food was very good but it was not enough to create a culinary experience worth the price. The service is mediocre. The noise level and music choices are incompatible with the Japanese food philosophy and really took away from enjoying the food. We came away confused as to what type of place o y’a is trying to be. In general for this type of price range and quality of food, restaurant align every detail to create a culinary experience: the seating, the service, the music , noise level etc…that’s not the case at O Y’a unfortunately.

This was our 10th time there having adopted a strategy of trading a lot of fine dining experiences for a few memorable ones - O Ya doesn’t disappoint and if you enjoy hugest quality sushi, creative dishes and art (watching the staff prepare dishes is akin to watching an artist at work) then simply do this. It’s expensive for sure but well worth it - and the casual time spent there with whomever you bring is priceless.

Amazing omakase meal, on a level with similar we’ve had in Tokyo and Kyoto. Loved the space it self and the wine/sake pairings matched each element beautifully. Hard to pick a favourite dish but the barracuda, shima aji or chawanmushi might come top. Will recommend fully and look forward to coming again.
