If you like sushi/Japanese cuisine, this is the best restaurant in Boston and I don't say that lightly. The portions are small but exquisitely prepared and presented so every single bite is amazing. There are many vegetarian items such as the smoked carrot and the koji cured celery root. The staff is very experienced and the servers are a great resource. Relaxed friendly atmosphere.

As always, the food was beyond stellar. So many delectable, unique presentations and flavors. And as always...very very expensive. Having said that, o ya provides something so special to us, it's worth the $$$. Thank you again for a most flavorful, delightful experience!

O Ya was amazing! The food was delicious, every bite was perfectly crafted. The service was friendly and informative without being overbearing. The ambiance was perfect for a night out at an amazing sushi place. If you have to eat free oyster crackers for the rest of your trip (or life) to afford dinner at O Ya, it’s worth it!

This was in the top 5 of our best dining experiences. Omakase-style is our favorite way to dine. All of the courses were exceptional. Several were so good that we didn't want to chew. We didn't want to lose the flavor experience that was in our mouth! Our server, Anna-Li was so personable and engaged. The evening far exceeded our expectations.

Absolutely delicious. Took my SO for a birthday dinner at the Chef Counter. I’m not a fan of sushi/sashimi but he is. I ended up loving every raw seafood dish we got. Changed my mind entirely on what Japanese food was and could be. Desserts were a beautiful and unique way to end the evening. Everything paired well with wines and sake. Overall amazing experience. The staff was genuine, connected with you on a personal level and are committed to your best experience possible. I’ll be back...with more friends.

Year after year, this restaurant makes my top 1% restaurants around the world. The dishes are mini works of art blending flavors, colors, scents and textures. The small venue and decor fortify the overall uniqueness with superb service. We are lucky to have this culinary treasure here in Boston.

The restaurant is unlikely to appeal to those preferring American portions and lower price points. Instead it’s for those that appreciate unique ingredients (even the rice) blended into special tastes to be savored. The sake selection is magnificent.

Easily one of the best meals of my life, the food was amazingly well prepared. Every dish was unique with a perfect balance of flavors. We did the standard Omakase with the liquor pairings and, while expensive, was incredibly good. They definitely don't skimp on the ingredients or the pairings, very high end on everything, but still don't go here looking for a cheap meal.

Will definitely be back, the service was amazing, the location and space is beautiful and not at all pretentious given the quality of food and service.

Have gone there a handful of times over the past 10 years and it’s just not the same it once was. Nothing really stood out, it was a fine dinner, but the wow we used to get, was just not there. Too bad.

We had the 17-course Omakase with drink pairings and OH MY GOD. We loved every bite and really wished for more... Well, no actually we were quite full but there were certain courses I definitely could have eaten a million of! Grat on the Omakase was included (20%) which was very convenient and we left a little extra because our server was wonderful. We sat at the sushi bar and it was really fun to watch things being plated and observe the rest of the restaurant. Although our reservation time was on the late side (9:30) we didn't feel rushed to finish or as though we were stalling any staff member from leaving. They were all very polite and friendly and informative. Thanks so much O Ya! We will be back ASAP!

O Ya was disappointing for two reasons:

1) food - Americanized Japanese food. Some really good raw fish was served with heavy seasoning, spoiled the taste. Fish served was not un-fresh, but was not stunningly fresh either, for the price, I expect better

2) operations - chaotic operation because the mix of sushi bar and tables setting, not enough waiters/waitresses and complexity of menu (two kinds of omakase and a la carte). Dishes waited on the counter to be delivered to me, often for 5+ minutes, good sushi is supposed to consume immediately after the chef made it.

Suggestions: have the chef serve the dish directly to counter guests, as it is the common practice in other authentic Japanese sushi bars, increasing chef - guest interaction and throughput. Have the waiters serve the tables only. Simplify the menu and focus on fresh fish.

Amazing food! So many unique and complimentary flavors in each bite. The nigiri and sashimi are the best in Boston. Get the squid ink udon noodles with octopus - best octopus I think I’ve ever had. Our waitress, Maggie was incredible! Went with essentially all of her recommendations and they were all fabulous. Needless to say we had an incredible experience due to the fantastic food and next level service.

As an authentic Japanese sushi lover, this place is more like a 'fusion-style' sushi place. We took Omakas. The food was just okay, meaning the freshness of sashimi and the taste was just okay. Instead of using top-quality sashimi, they covered sushi up with lots of sauces and flaming (torched)...so in the end, every piece of sushi tasted similar. Given that their price is outrageous, I expected better quality. If you like 'fusion-style' sushi, you may like this place, but even with that expectation, this place is really really overpriced.
