O Fine Japanese Cuisine - Irvine
Delicious sushi and cut rolls. Fresh fish. One of our favorite sushi restaurants.
Omakase for $85 per person is such a fantastic deal. And the quality of the fish and the cooked was spectacular. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the cooked items as I have always preferred sushi. The chef exceeded my expectations.
Sat at the sushi bar. Service was horrible. Had to flag someone down to order any food or drink after our initial drink order. Sushi chef told us to order through server, not him. Server argued over uni order, though order uni sushi with soybean paper every time we dine here. Even salmon sashimi was served soaked in chili sauce.
This is our favorite sushi spot and come here 2-3 times a month, but this night was a big disappointment.
The food was good, but came out very slowly and they were not even very busy.
Also, I was billed a higher amount for one item than what was on the menu. Not a huge amount, but still noteworthy.
It’s way too expensive for what it is. The fish is fresh, but you can get similar quality for a lot less. You’re paying for the high rent, not the quality.
Done here regularly, but this dinner was terrible due to the service. Orders were wrong and forgotten, ordered two simple Mixed Green salads and only one was served. Took 15-20 minutes to get another salad, while most other food was delivered. All of my wife’s food was brought out well before I received anything. My wife’s Diet Coke was refilled with iced tea. Very disappointing service - good food, but not a worthy value in light of the service disarray.
Went there first time for Omakase. Loved it! So brought 6 people for it for lunch 1:15 PM on Sat. Should have told us when we called the day before to confirm Omakase is served for lunch that if we opt for Supreme, it takes 2h for supreme-although the first time it only took a little over an hour. Restaurant appeared to be in a hurry to close-closing at 2:30 PM. Soups were cold. All tasted bland. Not deserving $100/person experience!
I had been here years ago & I wasn't impressed then, but I thought I would give it a second chance & I'm glad I did! I was pleasantly surprised! It wasn't anything like I remembered. The food was fantastic. The ambiance was beautiful and the service was excellent! Nice to know that I have a great sushi restaurant very near my home. I just wish it wasn't so expensive, but it was wonderful!
The sushi is always fresh. The meal was great overall. We enjoy coming here.
This used to be out local go to sushi place until they seemed to have lowered the quality of the food and level of service. Gave it another shot on a whim last Friday night and things seemed to be on the up swing again.
Just a bit noisy..few stroller types and parents who should know better... but with that said we had an enjoyable time.
Great service and food!
This place has really gone downhill (I used to go here all the time...) - even some of the great staff has gotten jobs elsewhere since they could see the writing on the wall.... The quality of the nigiri sushi & sashimi isn't as good as it once was. For this price you're better off going to Nana San, Shunka, Ooshima, Sushi Wasabi, Oo Toro, etc. At least at those places you get high quality fish in an authentic environment. If you just want chicken teriyaki and California rolls in a pretty ambiance then this is the place for you but if you want legit quality raw fish then go elsewhere.
Just super expensive but bland food.
Absolutely loved it! Will come again :)
Food and service was outstanding. We had the premium tasting menu. The fish were all very fresh, expertly cut, and served with just the right proportion of rice when served as nigiri.
I would highly recommend as one of the best sushi restaurants I have visited in a while.
Service was very disappointing . We enjoyed the food yet will Not be going back to the Irvine location . I made reservations and placed in notes we were celebrating my son’s 21st Birthday . I made call to restaurant day before to confirm and made sure notes referenced celebrating 21st bday with expectation of decent service . That did NOT happen ! We arrived at noon when restaurant opened so restaurant was not busy and there were plenty of staff . Our primary server was not friendly or helpful and several times we had to ask for help from others as she was nowhere around . Empty dishes were left after serving other dishes and no acknowledgment of my son bday and our experience ended with having to wait awhile to get our bill after advising others to let our server know we were waiting .
Loved miso grilled Chilean sea bass! - shared this dish along with sushi and tempura - all fresh ingredients and prepared perfectly !
Went here for lunch with out of town client. He always wants to go here. Good food and service.
Over time prices have gone up. Options have changed.
Dinner menu has dropped a lot of combinations and children’s menu. Less likely to go here any more for dinner.
Food was great but service was lacking given the price point. Restaurant itself is not too loud so nice for get togethers with family, friends or for a work meeting.
Very mediocre food and no Bento box combination...everything a la carte and very expensive.
Short version of the review is: Food doesn’t taste authentic and is over priced for what you get, service was not terrible but left much to be desired.
Longer version review: I had the $19 lunch special that consisted of beef, a hand roll and two shrimp tempura. I’ve had my fair share of beef teriyaki and unfortunately, the one I had here is far too sweet to taste authentic. The shrimp tempura didn’t taste fresh, and the only thing that actually tasted decent was the hand roll and the few vegetables that came with the teriyaki. In terms of service, the service was quite rushed. All the dishes came at once, so by the time I finished the soup, tempura had already gone cold. For a restaurant with “fine dining” in its name, I would have expected the food to not all come at once. In addition, the waiter only came by my seat once, and that was when he was taking the order. As I finished the soup, salad, and shrimps, the plates just kept piling up and they never cleared the table until the end. The most efficient part of the service was when they handed me the bill, which was done rather early during my visit there.
All in all, I really wanted to give this place a stellar review but sadly, I was disappointed. For those who are looking for extremely westernized Japanese food and strictly ambience, this place is a good place to visit. But if you want an authentic dining experience with decent attentive service, there are plenty other options in Irvine.
Fusion style. Nothing really special, over price a bit. I am too old for fusion food
We love this place! We eat here every Friday. The food and service is wonderful!
Good value for lunch. Stay away from the Uni - it’s never fresh.
Spent a wonderful evening here with friends and had a wide variety of dishes from the menu. Every bite of every dish was delicious. Sushi, Ramen, Sea Bass "3 Ways" all so good! Jackson was our waiter and was exceptional. We'll return often.
Very sub par. Crispy rice app was soft and soggy, other app (Scallop with Peach and yuzu) didn’t work. Flavors very disjointed. Nigiri was solid. crunch Red Dragon could have been good but for the soggy onion straws on top that should not be part of this dish. They offered to comp the entire meal but I offered to pay for the stuff that was enjoyable as I didn’t think it was fair to write the whole thing off, but I appreciated the effort.
Restaurant itself was nice looking and based on the yelp reviews I was optimistic but I won’t be returning.
Omakase Premium was incredible
Our go to sushi, Amari’s closed. Found O Fine in Yelp. Did not disappoint.
Comparatively, night and day! Old school vs. new school. Excellent quality at both. Alas, Amari's until it’s relocated, will return to O Fine.
5 stars to the outstanding servers at O Fine Japanese. Know their product, their multiple menu’s, outstanding personalities, 5 star service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great place to eat sushi! I've been coming to this restaurant for the last five years and was never disappointed.
Sea urchin was bad quality. And portion was small. The 10pc sashimi lunch combo wasn't the best quality... I was very disappointed......
The food was marginal at best. Neither of us enjoyed our meal. I am not a Japanese food afficionato, but my guest is. He had the same opinion of the food and certainly not worth the price.
Avoid. Nothing special but expensive. Really disappointing.
This was our first time visiting O fine, and man it was amazing!!! Truly the best quality of fish. Our server was excellent and we loved the ambiance! Can’t wait to go back!
This place never disappoints. The food is outstanding- sat at the sushi bar. And service impeccable. Very attentive.
Horrible experience. Staff was rude, food was late and cold. Will never be back.
The atmosphere and food was great. The presentation for every dish was amazing. Everything we ordered was good. It’s a little pricy, so it made me order just enough and not overdue it on sashimi.
Been going there for years. Very disappointing. Removed combination dinners from menu. Also removed child menu. Doubt if I’ll go back for dinner.
Incredible lunch special for an abundant amount of fresh, top-quality sushi/sashimi/soup/salad with Asahi Black beer available too.
This place has a warm and inviting ambiance, and a wonderful variety of menu selections. The staff is friendly and attentive (thanks especially to Thompson and Jackson!), and there is ample free parking and easy access to the 405 Fwy. One of my favorite local hangouts!
Another delicious dinner. Our server was fantastic and the food was exceptional.
