O&B Canteen Ratings and Reviews
We had tried to get a 12:00 reservation, as we had tickets for a 2:00 show, but It was busy so We reserved for 12:15 Saturday afternoon. We arrived a bit early, but were seated around 12:15. Service was pleasant, but the meals were slow to arrive. Coffee, tea, etc. were served fairly promptly, and we were able to order soon afterwards, but then things really slowed down. All of us received our meals after 1:05. I enjoyed my soup, but the calamari tacos, although tasty, were about room temperature. In my opinion, we had to wait much too long for a canteen brunch. I enjoyed my lunch, although I had to rush to finish it and pay the bill so we could get to the show on time. I've eaten here before, and might do so again, but would not choose this venue again if I had a later appointment.
Enjoyable from start to finish. Host was great at arrival and with seating. Lively atmosphere. Food was good. But, what really made the evening was our server. Our server was truly amazing. Attentive and friendly, but not overly intrusive. It is rare that you get a server so good you feel obligated to tell them how good they were, and that was the case for us.
And always love trying to figure out the back of the servers t-shirts!
First off, the staff did not want to be working brunch. From the hostess to the wait staff everyone was very unpleasant.
Arrived for Brunch and was seated (as requested) on the Patio. Our drink order never got placed and we waited 20 minutes for an eventual coffee after another waitress retook our order. Were told they didn't have steamed milk for child with us even though they had lattes, cappuccinos and other barista drinks. Child was told we have juice.
We were one of the first tables seated as our reservation was at brunch open time. It took us over an hour to get food. To put it plainly we were completely ignored, other tables on the patio were served without incident, but our waitress had tables inside and ours was the only outdoor table she seemed to be handling.
The food was good but the overall experience was lousy. I have been to this restaurant for dinner and have never had issues, this has always been a reliable restaurant with good food. When a 10 year notices how 'grumpy' everyone is, you know it is a very bad day.
Overall it was fine. The food was great. Service was pretty slow and drinks/food took a while. Also a hair was in one of the dishes. The draft beer was poured so badly that by the time the drinks got to us and all the foam had settled it looked like all of our drinks had already had a huge gulp taken out of it.
I was very impressed with the service at O&B Canteen. When I arrived, the front desk staff checked my Open Table request and found the type of table I wanted. The table service was also excellent: attentive, polite, discreet and giving no sense of rushing the customer.
Fabulous food and service. They were extremely supportive of my wheelchair scooter, spoke to me at my level, accommodated my specific needs and have a washroom that is accessible and fits a small scooter. I will come back here because of the absolute respect they show their customers.
We visited Canteen before the show. The menu had good choices. I had the Caesar Salad, followed by the Jerk Chicken and Lemon Tart. My daughter had a cup of Parsnip Soup (soup of the day) and the Macaroni and Cheese.
The Caesar Salad was tasty and a good portion. The Jerk Chicken was moist and nicely seasoned. The rice should have been more authentic rice and peas, mind you.
The Lemon Tart was good, but the pastry was too hard for my liking.
Would I go again? Yes, it's really close to the Princess of Wales Theatre. I would probably try some different options next time.
Have been there several times before : this time was poor
Were seated with a reservation easily. Initially waitress was quick with taking order and drinks. It went downhill from there
Drink never came. Had to ask twice. When it came I asked if the order wasn't put in or the bar had forgotten- got a shrug and no answer
Different staff brought food each serving.
Main steak and frites was cooked perfectly for medium rare but cold !!! Too much salt on top. Again bill and cleaning by different servers so nothing personal at all. Was slow with food coming. Watered longer than expected for each course despite arriving at 6:00 for a 8:00pm theater next door we were right leaving by 7:45 and that was explained on arrival
May give it another chance but may not either
O&B are usually serve very tasty meals with lots of flavour. But this meal - not so much.
The avocado toast was meagre and not very flavourful, the sausage and tomato pizza was also ordinary even bland. My friend's vegetarian order (quinoa & something) was decent and the hamburger and fries were nicely done. Overall though, a pretty average dining experience. Will not return
Terrible service. Waitress had attitude from beginning. I told her tuna dish I ordered previously once was good and second time was terrible. So I asked her to make it like first time. But This third time is a disaster. I did not finish it. Will never ever go back. On my Black list. Not sure if this will affect my perception of other O&B restaurants. We will see.
