   I was wondering where to go with some friends for a light bite and some drinks after a theatre matinee on Wednesday and one of our group suggested Canteen at TIFF Bell Lightbox. It turned out to be a great suggestion as the restaurant was close by, not very crowded and was clean and nicely appointed. The food that everyone had was excellent and the service was superb. The prices too were not outrageous and we all found that we got good value for our money. Next time when I'm at the theatre or seeing a movie there, I won't hesitate to go back for a great casual dining experience.

   I really like Canteen but service challenges need to be addressed. I ordered salmon from one server but another brought me a steak and seemed confused when I said it wasn’t what I ordered. He took the steak away and another server (or maybe manager?) came to ask what had happened. We had a show to go to so I asked how the steak was cooked…he said medium so I said I would just eat the steak. A third server brought back the steak. Both my steak and my friends were rare - she had ordered medium. No one offered to comp anything or take any action to address the problem and all servers seemed like deer in headlights. Lots of apologies but terrible service.

   We enjoyed excellent prompt service from Melissa. What a lovely server! We were attending an event at Roy Thompson Hall so she helped review the menu and clarified which items may take longer to prepare. So we quickly ordered! Salmon dish with brussel sprouts was delicious. Will return again soon.

   Very clean. The brussels sprouts were some of the best we’ve ever had! However it was eExtremely busy and very loud. The servers were very friendly but there were not enough of them and it was long waits to get a server for ordering, asking for more water and very ko g wait for the bill.

   Disappointing evening The food at o and b restaurants is usually consistent in quality but this was a small and unsatisfying meal There were no espresso coffee drinks available and the manager struggled to even be courteous when asked to temporarily accommodate an additional guest All in all not somewhere I would choose to go back to

   Our server was outstanding. I can't remember his name exactly. Aditya? Sorry for messing up the spelling. He has waited on me several times and is always friendly and efficient.

    I love going to the Canteen before the theatre. The fish and chips is probably some of the best I have ever tasted and I'm from the UK! My granddaughter and daughter loved the seared tuna and said the vegetarian Poutine was delicious. Only downside - no chocolate brownie - they were out of it so we were advised they had a chocolate mousse available which my granddaughter and I ordered. I don't drink and neither does my granddaughter (at least I hope not at her age). I asked the waitress whether there was any liquor in it. The overwhelming back taste of an orange - what tasted like Grand Marnier - completely overwhelmed the chocolate and for me ruined the dessert. I have never not finished a dessert. This was the exception. I asked the wait staff again whether there was any liquor in the mousse. She said not. it was a shame as otherwise I would give this 5 stars. I have never had a bad meal at the Canteen
