Fantastic dining! Highly recommend for large group--we had 50 in our group and good and service were superb!
My friend and I were virtually the only ones there on a Thursday at 12pm -- not sure if we were early or if this restaurant is just not busy for lunch. In any case, both of us enjoyed our meal very much. Freshly made soups -- one pumpkin and one NE clam chowder -- both excellent. My friend had a truly beautiful and tasty baby leaf spinach salad with salmon, and I had the appetizer crab cake. My crab cake was outstanding -- light, flaky and very flavorful. The service was very good and our server (forgot his name,) was genuinely friendly and attentive. The only "negative" was the decor -- for my personal taste the colors were quite drab and dark. But this is only a factor if this kind of thing is important to you. I would definitely return.
The vegan menu is outstanding! Lots of choices, and the chef's special is always excellent.
The food is always good and the menu changes frequently enough to keep it interested. It was extremely busy last Saturday evening and noisier than I ever remember it being. That doesn’t happen often.
Having made a reservation, I was disappointed to be escorted to two high tops in the bar. It wasn't the environment that I expected from having dined there before. All the tables for two were taken in the restaurant area. Since I was with someone young, it wasn't good. That said, the food and the service were excellent.
Good food but way too loud! Maybe it was because it was Friday night. Nice menu, good wine, nice service.
The food was good, and it was very convenient to lunch there while at a conference in the Sheraton Commander. But there were not enough servers to manage the crowd that needed a fairly quick turnaround. Or maybe also not enough kitchen staff. In any case, a long wait for the food that we then had to rush through. This is a problem that can be solved easily.
Altho in my neighborhood, this was my first time at Nubar. Went for special pre theater fixed price menu which was an excellent deal. Loved the ambience. Server was amazing! Food was excellent!
The food was exceptional. I had fantastic blue cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon and duck confit with wild rice - almost like a risotto, with cranberries and spinach. It has a chic atmosphere.
Six of us for a post-concert meal arrived early - not a problem! Wait staff very accommodating and pleasant. The place filled up quickly, but the ambience there is terrific, not "energetic". We could actually have a conversation without having to shout like at so many other places. Waitstaff was fantastic and supportive, the food and drink really excellent. We'll be sure to return again and again. Please note - tables of 6 and more have the gratuity automatically added to the bill - it's in the small print on the menu!
The vegan chef's choice is always amazing! I can't rave about it enough.
Nubar is N overlooked gem. Despite its location in a hotel, the food has been creative and excellent the two times I was there. The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable, and service attentive.
I really enjoyed the restaurant set up, and how there was a specific area for drinking/lounging separate from the dinner tables. Our server was amazing and had a positive personality. The cocktails we tried were delicious and ended up taking some food home because there was just so much on the plate.
Very enjoyable evening had dinner near the fireplace very romantic
Love the new menu! Vegetarian and vegan options are terrific. Okay
Enjoyed my time there. They have changed the menu - I missed the roasted cauliflower. Girl who seated us was very sweet (forget the name - curly hair girl) and so was the elderly gentleman - both very friendly. Hummus plate is one of my fav on their menu. 😊
I just love the fresh veggies from their rooftop garden. Can't be beat!
Delicious dinner with quiet dinning room where intimate conversations can take place and good service.
Fresh veggies from their own rooftop garden are great! Vegan and vegetarian options are excellent. Outdoor seating is away from the street and especially pleasant.
We went during dine out week on a Sunday evening and found all three courses were very good. Service and ambiance were exceptional and since it was prix fee we thought this was exceptional value.
I have always enjoyed going there. I was kinda sad - that they changed their menu - no more small plates like Brussels sprouts / roasted cauliflower - but nice ambiance. Drinks are little strong.
Excellent soup of the day. Other food was okay. Won't go back. The vegetarian among us ordered a salad *without the bacon*, discovered bacon in it as she was eating; the response was a nonchalant apology that suggested a lack of interest in diners.
I was here with two old friends. We live miles apart, but come to the Square on Sundays. Nubar was the perfect place to meet. We had a good time and had enough time to talk with each other. The food was excellent.
This restaurant is very convenient to Harvard Square with and nice, reserved ambience. This last visit was not as enjoyable because the manager came across as very curt and unfriendly when asked a question regarding a special offering. It left a bad feeling from the start of our meal and then to find our favorite dish was taken off the menu was an even greater disappointment. Well still go to Nubar for meals, but it has lost a bit of its specialness for us.
Wait staff excellent.
Accommodating, professional, efficient & polite
We were very unimpressed with the service. Maybe it's because we didn't order a high-priced bottle of wine for dinner. It was one beer and waters all around. Perhaps that sent a signal that we were not a "high value" customer. We were a party of six. After the food arrived the waiter did not once stop by to see how we were doing and how the food was. This is unusual given that Nubar is supposed to a be an upscale restaurant. After our meals we were just waiting for attention. Seeing none coming, while other tables around us (that had ordered bottles of wine) were being waited upon, I finally got up and spoke to the manager. Our check arrived pronto, with the 18% gratuity added already. I gave zero additional tip, and frankly didn't think the 18% gratuity was deserved. Never going back.
Very enjoyable...food service, ambience. Easy for a 4 way conversation.
I have often said at the bar year and loved it and now I find that the dining experience is also fantastic.
Everything was excellent except we had to wait much longer due to the lack of servers. There were only 2 servers working on Mother's day. Food was delicious but we were a little turned off by the service.
Enjoyed the Sunday brunch very much. Good selection of food, well prepared, and tasted great.
We're never disappointed with our dining experience at Nubar. Service and food were good. The buzz from the bar did not overwhelm the dining area but helped create a somewhat lively feeling. It's not gourmet but a good choice for a meal before theatre or really anytime. And, if you live in the eighborhood it's a good choice for anything from a lite bite to an entire meal.
Been here twice. Both times the crowd was 60+. Easy to get a reservation. Food isn't great. Got a grilled chicken sandwich and it was ok, nothing special, the chicken was a little thick. The wait staff were great.
One of our go to neighborhood spots
This is a very comfortable and relaxing setting to enjoy good food and conversation with friends. The service is always excellent. Flat Breads with duck sausage, salads and burgers were all delicious.
The food, service and atmosphere were outstanding. I ordered the pre-theater combo and the salad was fresh and tasty, the salmon flavorful and tender on a bed of white beans and the flourless chocolate torte scrumptious. We arrived early and it was very quiet and by the time we finished the place was packed and moderately noisy. This was my second visit to Nubar and I know it won't be my last.
If you have an event near the northwest corner of the Cambridge Common, Nubar is the place to dine or have a drink before or afterward. Compared to other places near Harvard Square, Nubar is quieter than most and has a good variety of food tastefully served. Very near the First Church in Cambridge, one of the nicer and more popular concert venues in the area.
Lovely place, located just outside of Harvard Square. We were seated near the lounge area, and during the course of the meal I watched with trepidation as they set up for what would clearly be a large group. When the group arrived, conversation with my friend was literally impossible - we quickly finished our meal and dashed out of there. Really too bad - I will certainly ask about group events in advance if I book there again, as it really ruined an otherwise lovely evening.
We went for the Easter brunch. We've been to Nubar before and felt that they do a good Sunday brunch. This time, however, we felt that too many of the brunch offerings lacked any special flavor. They weren't bad, but just not exceptional.
Great hidden gem. Good food, decor and not too noisy.
The food was wonderful! They make their own ginger beer which is pretty intense (but it made things interesting). Our service was a little slow, but we would definitely come back because the food was that great!
