We often eat at Nubar before attending concerts in the venue next door and always enjoy the food and service. By the way, the restaurant did not have our Open Table reservation when we arrived, even though we had email confirmation. So I hope we get our points!
The ease of making a reservation was the first notable aspect of our experience. The service was superb and the food was excellent. The canned music could have been a tad quieter.
We enjoyed ourselves and service was attentive. Not too noisy and food was very good. We will go back.
Had the Dine Out Boston vegetarian - so good! And superb service
We had a great experience this time, and everything was better than a few months ago which was a little bit off. I loved the sea scallops with lentils, and my partner raved about the Kentucky Float cocktail with bourbon, root beer, and ice cream. For our current dietary restrictions it was nice that there were choices without a lot of starch.
Four of us went to dinner and we were seated in the dining room space opposite the fireplace. There was a large group of 10 right near us so it was a little on the noisy side but they settled down once they had food in front of them. Overall, noise volume is still on the "energetic" side but conversation around a table of 4 was not a strain. Food was delicious and the large number of appetizers means that you can "tapasize" the meal and have them for dinner. This provides a nice sampling. We shared the Wild Mushroom Tart, Baby Tuscan Kale Salad and Shrimp and Tasso Ham Hush Puppies. Our friends had the gnocchi and a burger.
Definitely not for a foodie.Convenience to Harvard Square and concerts is it's best selling point. A spinach salad had sloppily cut candied beets and cheese with a forgettable dressing.Good presentation could have masked ordinary ingredients.Had a better pulled pork at an outdoor stand in Maine than what I had here which was over seasoned. Some places do a good job with standard fare like the Grafton Pub. But not here.
I was initially charged al la carte prices for my special "early menu" selection. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he said that this was my fault because I had not pointed this out to him and initially declined to make the correction. Only after I complained did he correct the bill.
We really enjoyed our valentines day dinner here! Great food and they even have a vegan menu!
We have returned to Nubar for a small family reunion of 9. As always, most of the food is quite tasty and well presented and the atmosphere is very pleasant. The vegetarian and vegan options are a plus for a few of us, and are unusual for many restaurants. Strangely, our server seemed to disappear for quite a while when we were ready to order, and service was generally slower than expected; but, she was cheerful and helpful. Overall, the food is good, but a bit pricey for what we got. I think we would return, but Nubar may not be our first choice.
Thanks we all enjoyed our meal. The house was busy so more staff might have been smoother.
Excellent family get-together, but excellent for dining with clients as well.
The service is impeccable.
Very good food at very good prices in a modern space with nice ambiance. I have never been disappointed.
Bar tender (female) excellent and server Gabriel was excellent!
Perfect spot to gather with our family after the Revels afternoon performance. We had essentially our own private dining room and suited many tastes and dining choices.
The Christmas Day buffet was wonderful.....great variety and excellent food quality!
Christmas brunch was like fine dining. Not a breakfast - like eggs,...- but a dinner menu. They served butternut squash soup, three salads, vegetables including Brussels sprouts with walnuts, chicken with mushrooms, salmon, roast beef, ham, and gourmet desserts and eggnog. Would definitely go again.
Loved it. The space is not what you think it's going to be: a restaurant, in the basement, of a hotel? OMG lovely lovely lovely. Beautiful, muted colors, a wide selection of seating options, a fireplace in the wall, it was all so unexpected.
Service was very nice, starting from the reservations desk. Very professional, and smooth.
Food was great: I had the "Chef's Whim" vegan dish, which was beautiful and delicious. I don't eat meat, so I appreciated the menu. My guy had a meat dish that he said was fantastic.
My only quibble is that my cocktail--the Nubar Rouge--was far warmer than it ought to have been. Warm cava is never an enjoyable drink.
We stumbled on Nubar a year or so ago and were quite pleased to see that they had a separate Vegan menu with several creative options including a "Chef's Whim" which indicated that they took a bit of pride in producing something interesting for Vegans. They also have an interesting assortment of specialty drinks - fun for a special occasion. And a nice draft beer and wine by the glass list as well.
On the particular night of our most recent restaurant experience it was a little noisier and chaotic than remembered from previous visits. But the staff was responsive and apologetic for any delays. There was one glitch that I will send a private note about: we ordered the Nubar Mezze from the Vegan menu (and the Chef's Whim) - not knowing that the Nubar Mezze appears on the regular menu as well (with cheese). The waitress should have keyed it in as vegan given that we ordered it off the menu, but we were delivered one with cheese. This was removed and remade for us cheerfully, but perhaps a separate name for the version on the Vegan menu would be easiest.
The restaurant was about 10% full and very quiet at 6 PM on a Sunday. We only saw 3-5 other tables. Even with the small crowd they seemed under staffed. Service was extremely slow. Food was very good. Would give it one more chance if in the area, but would not go out of my way to eat there again.
it was a good place to let some in our party wait in the lobby of the hotel while others went shopping and parking was worth the $10.
The food is consistently delicious. We were a party of four, all the orders were good and came out in a timely manner. The atmosphere is cozy and the wait staff is attentive but low key.
I'd been to Nubar in the past as always walk away feeling it was a rather special experience.
This past Sat. evening all the right stuff came together - dining room was quiet, food was interesting, healthy, and not what we'd cook at home, service was spot on - helpful, but not hovering. The flexible menu - sandwiches, flat breads as well as more elaborate entrees - put Nubar on my radar for a more casual meal.
Food was good. But I like to go to Nubar for conversation because it can be quiet. We sat next to an incredibly noisy table and couldn't hear each other talk. I think that if they're going to seat noisy parties, those parties should be nowhere near other patrons.
Also, it's as pretty cold - they turned up the heat, but my fingers were icy.
Food was good and service was friendly.
We go out for dinner before going to the ART and had never been here before. We loved it and will definitely come back. The design is really great, creating smaller spaces within the larger layout. It was really cozy and comfortable and also light and not too loud, like many places can be. The food was solidly good (we are good cooks so it takes a lot to impress us). There were other things on the menu we wanted to try which means we'll be back.
Always love the cocktails and hamburgers here. We came for dinner this time, but the Sunday brunch is outstanding!
Great spot on the outskits of Harvard Square. Atmosphere is good and have always had a great meal with excellent service.
I go every couple of months, and usually have a good dining experience. We like the varied menu and good service. This time, the food just wasn't good. Two of us ordered the clam chowder which was the worst I ever had. Too thick and very, very bland. The monk fish was also very disappointing. I have to say, with so many good options in Cambridge a restaurant doesn't get a lot of opportunities to for a 2nd or 3rd chance.
You need to up your game, Nubar.
we had the butternut squash soup - may have been the best I ever had. Very delicious. Most of us had salads for lunch and enjoyed them. Always guaranteed a table. Very quiet. Service good. I do wish you had more availability through Open Table. I often cannot get a table through them, and arrive to find 2 other tables of diners. Seems rather silly.
Food was good but service was lacking.
I was there for thanksgiving dinner. The food was good. Our waitress was amazing. But it took as a while to seat at the table and one of the waiters treated us very poorly. Overall it was good
Very underwhelming food. Service was inattentive . It was a buffet and we had to ask for our plates to be removed throughout dinner. Dessert table was really disappointing as well. Pies looked like they were purchased at a grocery store..
We had a wonderful time! Staff was excellent! Food outstanding! We will be back again! Thank you all for such a wonderful Thanksgiving meal!
Went to Thanksgiving lunch, food was very nice, service was great all around good value and location.
Great atmosphere. Great service. A little disappointed with the food. Didn't have the freshness I would have expected from a hotel brunch.
We were not crazy about the bloody Mary's either.
Reliably excellent food, not over-priced, very comfortable decor, just right service.
I always enjoy coming to Nubar. Food is good and reasonably priced.
Solidly average. Food was nothing special. Cool ambiance and setup, but wouldn't come back for a meal - maybe for a drink.
A good standby place for a light meal and quiet conversation. The salads and add-ons are
generally good. The menu could be improved upon and offer more substantial dishes.
The service is very good and the wait staff are very accommodating when asked for a quick service to catch a show or other reason.
I enjoyed my visit to Nubar, although it was a little noisier than I like for a group dinner. My only complaint was the cocktails: they were very weak!
