Christmas brunch was like fine dining. Not a breakfast - like eggs,...- but a dinner menu. They served butternut squash soup, three salads, vegetables including Brussels sprouts with walnuts, chicken with mushrooms, salmon, roast beef, ham, and gourmet desserts and eggnog. Would definitely go again.
We stumbled on Nubar a year or so ago and were quite pleased to see that they had a separate Vegan menu with several creative options including a "Chef's Whim" which indicated that they took a bit of pride in producing something interesting for Vegans. They also have an interesting assortment of specialty drinks - fun for a special occasion. And a nice draft beer and wine by the glass list as well.
On the particular night of our most recent restaurant experience it was a little noisier and chaotic than remembered from previous visits. But the staff was responsive and apologetic for any delays. There was one glitch that I will send a private note about: we ordered the Nubar Mezze from the Vegan menu (and the Chef's Whim) - not knowing that the Nubar Mezze appears on the regular menu as well (with cheese). The waitress should have keyed it in as vegan given that we ordered it off the menu, but we were delivered one with cheese. This was removed and remade for us cheerfully, but perhaps a separate name for the version on the Vegan menu would be easiest.
The restaurant was about 10% full and very quiet at 6 PM on a Sunday. We only saw 3-5 other tables. Even with the small crowd they seemed under staffed. Service was extremely slow. Food was very good. Would give it one more chance if in the area, but would not go out of my way to eat there again.
it was a good place to let some in our party wait in the lobby of the hotel while others went shopping and parking was worth the $10.
I'd been to Nubar in the past as always walk away feeling it was a rather special experience.
This past Sat. evening all the right stuff came together - dining room was quiet, food was interesting, healthy, and not what we'd cook at home, service was spot on - helpful, but not hovering. The flexible menu - sandwiches, flat breads as well as more elaborate entrees - put Nubar on my radar for a more casual meal.
Food was good. But I like to go to Nubar for conversation because it can be quiet. We sat next to an incredibly noisy table and couldn't hear each other talk. I think that if they're going to seat noisy parties, those parties should be nowhere near other patrons.
Also, it's as pretty cold - they turned up the heat, but my fingers were icy.

We go out for dinner before going to the ART and had never been here before. We loved it and will definitely come back. The design is really great, creating smaller spaces within the larger layout. It was really cozy and comfortable and also light and not too loud, like many places can be. The food was solidly good (we are good cooks so it takes a lot to impress us). There were other things on the menu we wanted to try which means we'll be back.
I go every couple of months, and usually have a good dining experience. We like the varied menu and good service. This time, the food just wasn't good. Two of us ordered the clam chowder which was the worst I ever had. Too thick and very, very bland. The monk fish was also very disappointing. I have to say, with so many good options in Cambridge a restaurant doesn't get a lot of opportunities to for a 2nd or 3rd chance.
You need to up your game, Nubar.
we had the butternut squash soup - may have been the best I ever had. Very delicious. Most of us had salads for lunch and enjoyed them. Always guaranteed a table. Very quiet. Service good. I do wish you had more availability through Open Table. I often cannot get a table through them, and arrive to find 2 other tables of diners. Seems rather silly.
A good standby place for a light meal and quiet conversation. The salads and add-ons are
generally good. The menu could be improved upon and offer more substantial dishes.
The service is very good and the wait staff are very accommodating when asked for a quick service to catch a show or other reason.
This was our second time at Nubar and our expectation was met for good choices of menu item , cozy place for a birthday celebration with good conversation .you wouldn’t know you are in the crazy crowd of Harvard Square . As a vegetarian I had lot of good choices and every one was pleased with their choices . The restaurant wasn’t busy but it took the waitress a while to bring water and the menu so we complained . The service was slightly improved but I wouldn’t tip 18 percent , we had to due to group of six so gratuity was already added . I would go back hoping we get better service . Another small disappointment was the dessert menu . Ice cram portions very small and not filling
It went there with my girlfriends for my birthday dinner. We absolutely love it!! The music was great, not too loud, good vibes, great food and excellent service. I was just kind sad that I didn't get my dessert with the candle as they said when I made the reservation but it's no biggie, when enjoyed our night out and I highly recommend the place🙌🏽
My friend and I were virtually the only ones there on a Thursday at 12pm -- not sure if we were early or if this restaurant is just not busy for lunch. In any case, both of us enjoyed our meal very much. Freshly made soups -- one pumpkin and one NE clam chowder -- both excellent. My friend had a truly beautiful and tasty baby leaf spinach salad with salmon, and I had the appetizer crab cake. My crab cake was outstanding -- light, flaky and very flavorful. The service was very good and our server (forgot his name,) was genuinely friendly and attentive. The only "negative" was the decor -- for my personal taste the colors were quite drab and dark. But this is only a factor if this kind of thing is important to you. I would definitely return.
Having made a reservation, I was disappointed to be escorted to two high tops in the bar. It wasn't the environment that I expected from having dined there before. All the tables for two were taken in the restaurant area. Since I was with someone young, it wasn't good. That said, the food and the service were excellent.
The food was good, and it was very convenient to lunch there while at a conference in the Sheraton Commander. But there were not enough servers to manage the crowd that needed a fairly quick turnaround. Or maybe also not enough kitchen staff. In any case, a long wait for the food that we then had to rush through. This is a problem that can be solved easily.
Six of us for a post-concert meal arrived early - not a problem! Wait staff very accommodating and pleasant. The place filled up quickly, but the ambience there is terrific, not "energetic". We could actually have a conversation without having to shout like at so many other places. Waitstaff was fantastic and supportive, the food and drink really excellent. We'll be sure to return again and again. Please note - tables of 6 and more have the gratuity automatically added to the bill - it's in the small print on the menu!
