Overpriced for Easter Brunch!
They always do great holiday buffets. The Easter desserts were especially nice. Our waiter, William, was very friendly and attentive. I always look forward to going to Nubar.
We love the ambience, menu, ( especially the flatbread) and the wait staff are charming.
We first visited Nubar on a cold and rainy evening before a concert at the church next door, not expecting more than a typical boring hotel meal. But we were very pleasantly surprised by the warm and friendly atmosphere, the excellent food, and the great selection of wine and beer. Since then, it has become a family favorite!
I wanted to LOVE Nubar, but am only in heavy like with it. With so many new restaurants, this one is 'almost there'. If you are a VEGAN, you can ask for a menu - which is a fantastic option. The service was good, but a bit too quick for us in that we wanted a leisurely night.
The restaurant was not busy at all on Sunday for dinner - but if it were, I would imagine it would be very noisy and hard to have a conversation.
Great location, excellent food. A bit dark and down under feel to it, but service was top-notch.
As always, the the service was unobtrusive yet complete. The food again, had us closing our eyes and just contemplating the taste sensations.
Good for a quick pre-concert dinner with a friend!
We like how they change the same dinners every time we eat there.
This restaurant is a reliable neighborhood standby for me and my wife - normally excellent food served in a comfortable setting, with great service. At our most recent dinner here, my wife raved about her monkfish dish, but it pains me to say my scallops and accompaniments were grossly oversalted, and the cranberry cobbler dessert, so treacly oversweetened only a 6 year old could finish it. My hope is that it was simply the chef's night off.
Casual fine dining, excellent in all respects. Terrific chicken
We went for pre theater dinner. Food was delicious and plentiful. Excellent, courteous service, relaxing, pleasant atmosphere. Low noise level. Fair prices for Cambridge.
Service very satisfactory. Ambience, too -- except for those cold winter drafts rolling off the high windows, down the walls, onto my neck. Sort of killed the coziness while I waited by Just right!my spouse. I griped to a server, who immediately got on the stick, taking me for a quick spin of the various seating areas: a toasty warm section near the fireplace, some less so approaching the room center, some more than okay as we poked around the floor space. Finally I found the just-right Goldilocks table: When me mate arrived and we ordered, things were fine as well: meze plate was done well with intriguing flavors; burger done to pinkish perfection; fishwich lovely and crisp, trimmings mostly Just Right too. Tab was reasonable for the environment. And to repeat: service quick and gracious.
But, Dear Managers: When temp is in the 20's, save our necks from cricks by hanging curtains or tapestries on those high, cold walls. Thanks!
Under seasoned food-
We had a lovely dinner st Nubar earlier this week. The menu was varied, and our dinners were delicious. The desserts were excellent. Overall a great place for a great meal.
My wife and I had a pre-concert dinner here on Saturday night. The food was excellent, and I found the server to be attentive. My wife had ordered for me while I was parking the car, and she observed that the server didn't seem happy that we didn't order more food. I didn't observe that occurring, so I didn't include it in my rating of this meal.
I had a fine meal there a few years ago, but this time the service was a bit slow, our entrees were not warm (let alone hot), and the noise was a problem for most of the meal... the three course special meal was a relative bargain ($##) but overall, disappointing!
Sweet, warm bar and restaurant. Neighborhood find good for those outside the neighborhood as well.
We went with friends for DineOutBoston and had a wonderful dinner, promptly served. Everything was delicious--up to their usual high standard. The only quibble was a slightly drafty location (fan? window?) in the corner, which we chose because it was quiet.
I would only recommend for ambiance and drinks. Would not recommend for a nice dinner, which is what we were expecting. Food was okay- would not order nice meal, but perhaps more sandwich/classic food that has low expectations but tasted good rather than nicer plates with higher expectations. Ambiance is very cozy, especially electric fireplace. Staff is kind.
Tables by the fire looked inviting and cozy, but our table close to the back wall was cold, both literally and in terms of ambiance. That part of the restaurant seemed quite makeshift? Service was friendly and pretty good, but we would've appreciated another check-in or so after the food was served (and probably would've ordered another drink if that would've happened).
good food and service. i only had sald and a flatbread, but these had very good flavor and texture
Staff very attentive, even let me recharge my cell at the receptionist’s desk
We always have a good food and a good time at Nuber.
Horrible service. Poor timing with the service, food came out cold, the servers struggled to understand English.
Lunch Brunch Dinner and Drinks.. This is the local spot to go and if you need too stay at the SC for the night.
This is the perfect restaurant before or after one of the many concerts at the nearby (100 yards) 1st Church Congregational opposite the Cambridge Common. (It's one of the only close by)
Food and service are fine and varied.
The menu looked promising, but we were disappointed with the execution. The mushroom tarte appetizer was good but be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes for it. The duck breast arrived cold. The spinach salad was uninspired. The service was slow and inattentive.
Nubar is a 'neighborhood restaurant' for me. This review concerns Sunday breakfast. They offer "buffet service only." They made "to order" omlettes. The rest of the breakfast was pretty much what you'd find in any middle-grade hotel - the usual cold cereals, oatmeal, precooked eggs, potatoes and bacon, yogurt, cut fruit, etc. The room is nice, the service was attentive, the location is great for anyone around Harvard Square.
The recommended wine was not very good...
Except for a delicious dessert called apple cranberry cobbler that wasn’t really a cobbler (dough was more like a cookie dough) so it shouldn’t be called that, all was perfect. If I could have awarded fractions of that 5th star, review would be more accurate. I really love Nubar.
Happy to have found a place that serves good food at fair prices but offered a quiet, spacious dining room, at least on the night I was there. Great for a pre-theater meal (short walk to the ART) or for lounging with friends. The rest rooms are a fair walk away from the dining area but if that's not a problem for you, this place is worth a try.
Nubar is our go-to place in Cambridge, especially with friends. The food is always great, the noise level reasonable, the waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the prices are fair. The menu changes often, and always using the freshest, local (when possible) ingredients. What's not to love!
It was okay. Our only complaint is that the serving areas were a little messy, especially the dessert bar. We were one of the last brunch seatings probably, but the serving areas should have been kept clean without spilled food and crumbs all over.
Other than that, the staff was attentive and the food was pretty good.
Great food and kind waitstaff make Nubar a favorite for me.
This was our second Christmas buffet. Elegant and delicious food!! Service was very hospitable and caring! It was nice not to be hurried. Made reservations five weeks ahead of time.
good place in harvard square for a large group to meet for dinner. food was good, service a little rushed considering we were in for an early dinner and the place was fairly empty.
We went to Nubar for Sunday brunch to celebrate my birthday. We enjoyed the extensive buffet, with both breakfast items as well as more substantive fare (like chicken cacciatore and a salmon dish). The made to order omelet was excellent. I was happy to see that smoked salmon was available as that is a favorite. There was also a carving station (with pork roast) and some nice desserts. Drinks were brought to the table. We felt we got our money's worth. There were several large groups there, including one with several very young children, but the noise level was very reasonable. The dining area is open. The decor isn't very exciting, but is fine.
The party there that night made it exceptionally loud..
I would have given Nubar a higher review as it is a favorite spot where I have dined many times. However, I had issues with my $100 gift card. For some reason, Nubar was unable initially to honor a partial use of the card ($75). It was only after I strongly questioned why this was not a "no brainer" that I was given a new card for $25.
