Horrible service. Poor timing with the service, food came out cold, the servers struggled to understand English.
Lunch Brunch Dinner and Drinks.. This is the local spot to go and if you need too stay at the SC for the night.
This is the perfect restaurant before or after one of the many concerts at the nearby (100 yards) 1st Church Congregational opposite the Cambridge Common. (It's one of the only close by)
Food and service are fine and varied.
The menu looked promising, but we were disappointed with the execution. The mushroom tarte appetizer was good but be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes for it. The duck breast arrived cold. The spinach salad was uninspired. The service was slow and inattentive.
Nubar is a 'neighborhood restaurant' for me. This review concerns Sunday breakfast. They offer "buffet service only." They made "to order" omlettes. The rest of the breakfast was pretty much what you'd find in any middle-grade hotel - the usual cold cereals, oatmeal, precooked eggs, potatoes and bacon, yogurt, cut fruit, etc. The room is nice, the service was attentive, the location is great for anyone around Harvard Square.
The recommended wine was not very good...
Except for a delicious dessert called apple cranberry cobbler that wasn’t really a cobbler (dough was more like a cookie dough) so it shouldn’t be called that, all was perfect. If I could have awarded fractions of that 5th star, review would be more accurate. I really love Nubar.
Happy to have found a place that serves good food at fair prices but offered a quiet, spacious dining room, at least on the night I was there. Great for a pre-theater meal (short walk to the ART) or for lounging with friends. The rest rooms are a fair walk away from the dining area but if that's not a problem for you, this place is worth a try.
Nubar is our go-to place in Cambridge, especially with friends. The food is always great, the noise level reasonable, the waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the prices are fair. The menu changes often, and always using the freshest, local (when possible) ingredients. What's not to love!
It was okay. Our only complaint is that the serving areas were a little messy, especially the dessert bar. We were one of the last brunch seatings probably, but the serving areas should have been kept clean without spilled food and crumbs all over.
Other than that, the staff was attentive and the food was pretty good.
Great food and kind waitstaff make Nubar a favorite for me.
This was our second Christmas buffet. Elegant and delicious food!! Service was very hospitable and caring! It was nice not to be hurried. Made reservations five weeks ahead of time.
good place in harvard square for a large group to meet for dinner. food was good, service a little rushed considering we were in for an early dinner and the place was fairly empty.
We went to Nubar for Sunday brunch to celebrate my birthday. We enjoyed the extensive buffet, with both breakfast items as well as more substantive fare (like chicken cacciatore and a salmon dish). The made to order omelet was excellent. I was happy to see that smoked salmon was available as that is a favorite. There was also a carving station (with pork roast) and some nice desserts. Drinks were brought to the table. We felt we got our money's worth. There were several large groups there, including one with several very young children, but the noise level was very reasonable. The dining area is open. The decor isn't very exciting, but is fine.
The party there that night made it exceptionally loud..
I would have given Nubar a higher review as it is a favorite spot where I have dined many times. However, I had issues with my $100 gift card. For some reason, Nubar was unable initially to honor a partial use of the card ($75). It was only after I strongly questioned why this was not a "no brainer" that I was given a new card for $25.
Our waitress was friendly but a little overbearing; telling us that we might not be able to split a sandwich and just inserting comments here and there. It was weird.
It seems every time we go there is a party. It takes the enjoyment out of the experience. Considering not going there anymore.
Great entres at a great price. Innovative and creative dishes and good wines! Loved it
I had been warned the service is not good here, and it wasn’t.
We are regulars. The food is always good, with plenty of palate-pleasing options and matching sides. The service is good. There's a broad list of wine choices to complement the entrees. And deserts are always just right. The ambience is comfortable. We've recommended Nubar to many friends.
Went to the thanksgiving buffet and food was surprisingly amazing. They had anything you couls thing of for the occasion. The service was not great because it was very packed and we were asked to leave after about an hour and 15 minutes because of other people coming. Overall would recommend if you are looking for a good thanksgiving meal. Worth the price.
Went for Thanksgiving Buffett. Food was great.Carving station for turkey and ham, good choice of vegetables.Fabulous desserts. Excellent service
Second year we have eaten here for Thanksgiving. Wonderful buffet selection of food and desserts as well as really great service. Also liked that we weren't rushed out. Everything was delicious, and we will be back next year.
Lovely Thanksgiving buffet however, we were dismayed when we were rudely rushed out after a a little over an hour despite there being many vacant tables. It felt a bit like an assembly line and was not a relaxing dining experience towards the end, unfortunately.
The dinner was delicious, staff attentive.... lovely evening!
A delightful lunch; good and interesting food with excellent service and friendly ambiance
We had a very good meal. It was our first time there, and it won’t be our last. The staff is very accommodating, making sure that people with food issues are well taken care of.
Solid. Fits the bill. Unpretentious but cozy and elegant. A go to spot. Highly recommended
Fantastic meal in relaxing setting. Wide variety of interesting and tasty cocktails: passion fruit one was refreshing. Separate extensive gluten-free menu was appreciated. Bisque soup was delightful.
Good place for dinner before a concert at Longy
Our waitress handled our party of 7 beautifully, and got us off to our performance in ample time
We were hoping for a quiet environment where we could easily visit with family that we see only 3-4 times a year. The space was too noisy for us. It was also not very warm and we found wait staff to be brusque. These things colored our opinion of the rest of the evening.
It’s always a pleasure to eat at Nubar which is increasingly my go-to place for a quiet meal with consistently good food and a nice wine list. It’s convenient to many venues in Harvard square, the prices are reasonable and the staff is welcoming and attentive.
Really great restaurant for pre theatre in Harvard square! Food was excellent and service the best. Would definitely go back!
I had a great risotto. Good cocktails too.
Great spot for food and atmosphere. Would highly recommend for special occasions.
The server did not know how to serve. Not how to bring the food or how to clear.
Food was quite good
Very cold in the restaurant
Sorry - normally I'm really happy with you. Friday night the salmon was over-cooked, the corn fritters were kind of bland and the kitchen was really really slow. There was the Cambridge teen party was going on so I can understand but an apology and free dessert would have made this experience a whole lot less painful!
I will give you another chance because I think you are worth fighting for.
Dine Out Boston - outstanding! Not all participating restaurants do vegetarian/vegan but Nubar is terrific
We went here as part of Restaurant Week in Boston - got three courses for $33 and each one was delicious. The corn fritters were incredible!
