The food was delicious and the location is perfect. However the service leaves a lot to be expected. The server we had assigned to our table was rude, and I had to use every once of my composure from telling this server off. Honestly everything was wonderful except this person who left a horrible taste in my mouth and soured the evening.
Great service, great food, lovely atmosphere . The patio is beautiful , small lights, intimate setting . Service was great . We had a heater at the table very comfortable . Food was delicious .. perfect evening
We were a group of 9 adults heading for Paso Robles for the weekend, and planned to stop on SLO for lunch. Our daughter, who graduated Cal Poly, always regarded this as her favorite restaurant, so we made reservations. My ago nachos were outstanding, and my wife’s salad topped with a salmon filet was delicious, and the portions are generous for the price. The outdoor atmosphere by the creek on a sunny spring day can’t be beat.
Beautiful seating on over edge of creek with impeccable service and wonderful food.
Loved the calamari! Our server was very helpful and friendly, and did an excellent job on pacing all of our appetizers (we ordered seven!)
Birthday dinner, great service, great ambiance and the food was excellent.
There are plenty of good restaurant options in the SLO/Paso Robles area these days, but anytime I'm in that part of the world I always come back to Novo. The fresh ingredients, innovative preparation and outdoor creekside dining room make an irresistible combination. I've never had a bad dish here, but their curries are the star of the show. They grind and combine their own curry seasoning on-site, which makes for a subtle, layered flavor unlike any others I've tried. This is a great restaurant for vegetarians, but they also really know how to do meat. The wine list is carefully curated and reasonably priced, and they have a nice selection of beers if you're wined out from a day of heavy tasting. Just go to Novo and enjoy your evening.
Love this restaurant! Was in SLO 2 weekends in a row and went both weekends. Took friends the second time. Creekside dining like no other. Food surprisingly sophisticated and delicious. Cocktails a bit pricey though.
Nice outside patio.
Everything including the service, food and wine was very good. Bland and mushy butternut squash curry.
Nice outdoor dining. Great brunch spot
GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE ALL AROUND FOR EASTER BRUNCH. THANK YOU
Easter Brunch on the patio was a delightful time with good friends. Our waiter, Cody was excellent!
I'll start with this - we went for my spouse's birthday and while it wasn't a bad meal, it was nothing special. We were staying at the Madonna Inn and had heard great things and can't say the meal we had lived up to the hype.
If you're looking for a decent meal at not a great value, this place will hit the spot. If you're looking for a special meal, you might have to go elsewhere.
The birthday scoop of ice cream they brought for me wife was very good though. Gotta give them that.
The outdoor patio was lovely, right alongside the creek! They have blankets and space heaters ready for cool evenings.
The staff was very welcoming.
Wonderful experience by the creek!
We started girls night here and had some wonderful drinks and delicious food.
I loved everything about this place! The swordfish was absolutely delicious! Our server, Amber, was wonderful. We were able to enjoy catching up with old friends in a beautiful setting. No complaints at all. I wholeheartedly recommend!
Novo is my favorite place to eat in SLO.
We had never been to Novo, and were pleasantly surprised to find such a lovely setting. We enjoyed the creekside dining terrace, attentive servers, and delicious entrees and sides.
Excellent outdoor venue, the vesper was pretty dry. Food excellent. Service excellent.
Beautiful location, always delicious food & drinks. What stood out most on this visit is how they couldn’t have been more understanding or accommodating of our kids food allergies. That makes us happy loyal customers who will be back over & over!
I've been to Novo for dinner before. I remember it having a great selection, with interesting, filling, delicious dishes. This was not the case for lunch. Sparse, overpriced menu. Was just average at best. Poke with chips should not cost $17. A bland steak sandwich should not cost $16. There should be more than 3 or so dishes besides sandwiches, and they just weren't interesting or appeasing.
Amazing as u always are
We did Sunday Brunch and loved it! Truly outstanding food: brioche Eggs Benedict, duck crepes and sweet crepes. Coffee made with locally roasted beans. We sat outside by the creek and enjoyed the scenery. Can't wait to go back for dinner!
Every bite of food was well prepared and delicious! The service was spot-on excellent!
Best restaurant in SLO for great food & a date night!
Great lunch spot.
Novo is a lovely restaurant. Due to the rain, a party of 16 was seated near us downstairs. It was quite noisy, although I don't think this is necessarily typical. The service was great and the food was superb. We had a shared plate of brussels sprouts with onions which needed a little more flavor. We shared a vegetable noodle main dish and a special with mahi mahi (good) & ravioli with pesto (very tasty). Both dishes were delicious overall, but we wish we had tried a curry dish. It was plenty of food for two and we had leftovers. We also shared the apple berry crumble dessert which was delightful.
We stop into Novo whenever we want a great food that is special for vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters. The service is excellent and the samosas and curries are amazing!
A Fabulous salmon bisque...drove two hours just for it!
Hit and miss here. I honestly don't understand the incredible hype about the place. I will say the wine list is brilliant - that's undeniable. However - the food....
Spring rolls - not original in profile, but perhaps the best shrimp spring roll I've ever had. Just wonderful.
Salmon bisque - a nice idea for sure, and mostly ok, but under seasoned and lacking acidity.
Green Thai Curry - this was the real disappointment. Bland and under seasoned. However, the real failure is the texture. This is much more akin to a Kentucky gravy in texture and lacks the cleaner profile of the brothy type green curries we experienced many times in Thailand. The balance of sweet, salty, spicy, salty, and bitter - was simply absent. It really tasted like an Americanized version of Thai. The resulting texture was muddy; the flavors unclean.
Dessert - Sheep Milk Ice Cream. This was a winner. Beautifully executed, and how great that people who have a lactose problem with Cow's milk can actually have an ice cream for real? Well done there.
Perhaps we caught them on an off night, but the final result warranted a bill for two around $35. Alas - it was $100. We paid 100% for a 35 % experience... hard to get around those numbers.
Good food. Great setting - even on a cold evening. We come here every few months. The food is consistently good to excellent. Today's choices were also in that range. (The only less-than-stellar option was the squash curry - it needed more curry flavor, but was otherwise good.) Sitting on the patio is great, even when it is a bit chilly - they have heaters and blankets. We will be back!
This was my second time at Novo for brunch. They have a good selection of both food and drink.
However, both times I have been here the food (for everyone) has come out cold or room temperature. I wish they could do a better job of keeping the food warm. We do love the patio. Dinner might be better....
the wait for our meal was so long and frustrating. After food came it was mediocre. they tried to make amends for not charging us for main dishes, which was very accommodating of them and appreciated; but would have liked a pleasant evening with better service.
Creek-Side dining in the city! It was a cold night, and we sat creekside, but the heaters kept us toasty warm. (You might want a light blanket to cover the metal seat if it's an especially chilly evening.) We enjoyed a beautiful evening celebrating our daughter's 21st birthday. We had one order of the ahi nachos. They were quite tasty if a bit too much (mayo?) sauce. The ahi was fresh. The order is quite large and plenty for an entree, or a shared appetizer. We had one of the specials of the day which was a swordfish on some sort of grain cake with sauce. It was beautifully plated and tasted great. Finally, the gentleman in our party had the lamb chops. One of them was prepared perfectly. The rest of the plate was delicious.
We enjoyed the unique good food and charming ambiance of Novo. We ate outside on a chilly evening, but were kept plenty warm by heaters and blankets that were offered to us. The view was very nice, and the service was excellent.
We traveled to SLO for a getaway
Novo was recommended.
We absolutely loved it !!
Wonderful flavors !!
Hope to come back
Had brunch there. Frankly the hash was terrible. Served in a bowl with gravy. Egg yokes disappeared recognizably into the gravy. Waffle not great either. Huevos Ranchros was ok as long as you like chipotle. But, everything else was nice. Worth a second try.
