NOVI Chophouse Ratings and Reviews
It took a very long time to get our dinner even though the restaurant was not busy. The mushroom soup was amazing! Brussels sprouts were charred and lacking flavor. Scallops were great and my husband had a surf and turf that was good, as well. We told the server that it was my husband's birthday and we weren't offered a complimentary dessert or anything special.
Visiting family from out of town! Our waiter TJ was great. The management was TERRIBLE! My husband ordered a bone-in filet for $66. It was raw the first time it was served and when they brought it back a second time it was still raw!! We also ordered a bottle of wine and it took 20 minutes to receive it because they could not find it!!!! Really??? Will not be back! Assistant manager was a joke and avoided our table completely. When we asked to speak to a manager, it took 15-20 minutes for him to show up at our table. Odd behavior for such a high end restaurant!
Despite of couple last almost negative review we decided to try this place, again. (We were there already 4-6 times, having pleasant expressions, while last two visit we decided that quality of that place were worsened.)
This time we have only good feeling from our visit!
Meat was in requested condition, testy and with nice side food and sauces!
Service completely reasonable: no long waiting; no annoying 'how is ...' or long speeches !
The wine FOR US was 'under special attention'! :) And we have got only positive on that site! (That is not easy with us. For sure!!)
We have limited server with price and asked to advice a wine that would be nice for us, describing our preferences. Chances to have successful selection on such claim close to zero; but we have something nice from second advise!
So we left the place in perfect mood with only good feeling!
(I guess, it was some period when it start to loose it's quality, but, seems they comes back to high!)
Not the greatest. For a $300+ meal with clients I expect a lot more- my steak was well done (asked for medium) mashed potatoes were pasty, green beans mushy. Outback Steakhouse would've been a better meal.
This place has consistently gone down hill over the years - like the hotel it's attached to, is to be avoided. Drive the 30 min to Ann Arbor Chop House.
We were very disappointed. The price point is extremely expensive, the restaurant is in a strip mall - and they keep it VERY DARK to hide the face that there is NO ATMOSPHERE. Four of us each ordered a different entree, and we shared several sides. The meat was fine, but not awesome, as the price would suggest it should be. I didn't think it was of the caliber of Morton's Ruth's Chris, or other high end steakhouses. We had a veal chop, a NY strip, and the meat flight - supposedly 4 oz of each of four different steaks. The four we were presented were culotte, fillet, strip, and one tiny lamb chop. I don't think those were the four listed on the menu (culotte may have been substituted for something else), and the one one tiny lamb chop was clearly not 4 ounces. The sides were unexceptional and $10-12 each for small portions - four of us each had a small spoonful of each one. The dessert (Novi Dome) was average - the presentation was interesting but the flavors were not . There are lots of fabulous restaurants out there that are much better for less. We won't go back.
This was a weak restaurant at best. I heard great things But... When I arrived we were sat in the back near the kitchen and could hear everything. I ordered the $70.00 tomahawk and they brought me a pork chop (dry...). I sent it back and when my 3 companions were completely done their meals...My giant steak arrives. I was given a double drink to make up for it and when we received our bill I was charged for 2 drinks. Ridiculous and Amateur establishment. If it ever used to be good it has gone WAY downhill.
The prime rib special was outstanding-best we've had in ages. Not cheap but worth the money .
The waiter was very good. The drink prices on the menu are a joke. A Chivas price of $9.00 on the drink menu jumps to $13.25 when it's on the rocks. Never realized "rocks" could be so expensive. The manager, Jonathan, explained the 1/3 more pour in the drink bringing the $9 to $13.25 but the math was all wrong- 1/3 is $3 more not $4.25. Too bad his arrogance was not matched by his math skills or lack there of. He gave back the dollar difference per drink but not the .25. Told him he could keep his patronizing difference which was still incorrect and give it to the waiter. Horrible way to end as nice evening. Customer service is definitely not on the menu nor are the correct prices for drinks.
We have frequented No. VI Chophouse for a number of years, but will not be returning. First, we waited for a VERY long time after we were seated to be approached by a waiter or busboy - one of us went to the front desk to make that happen. The major flaw was that one of us ordered a fish dish the came with a very tiny piece of fish on top of a small pile of veggies. When we called it to the attention of our waiter, he did nothing. He should have called over a manager to straighten things out. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
We had been to NOVI Chophouse once before and LOVED the steak tartare. They revamped their menu and we were disappointed to see that it had disappeared. We called and were ecstatic to find that they would make it for us with advance notice. EXCELLENT FOOD! The steak tartare was fantastic and our steaks were perfectly cooked. Couldn't have asked for a better anniversary meal.
It was very loud when we arrived. I ordered the whipped potatoes and was told they did not look good and to try a different item. I ordered the scalloped potatoes, they came out freezing. I ordered the crème Brule for dessert and it had no flavor and the texture was not right. This chop house needs to learn from Ann Arbor Chop House how to do things.
The entrance from the hotel was not in line w/ the price of the meal. The meals were over priced for the ambiance of the place. The wine list for a chop house was poor.
The waiter and manager were very professional and attentive.
The food was great, it just did not align w/ the overall experience.
This restaurant NEVER DISAPPOINTS!! We have enjoyed this spot for many years!! Even when it was at the other location.
The menu, staff, service and food are fantastic. The mushroom bisque/wedge salad are so tasty!! The steak options are creative in their own way. Really enjoyed the sampler this time, which included a 4oz filet, a lamb chop a ny strip and a wagyu strip!! The sides are so hard to choose because they are all creative and so tasty!! My husband loved his cowboy ribeye!!
On this visit, we were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. First, we were able to sip a cocktail and talk without loud music blaring. This restaurant is lovely, quiet and relaxing. We were lucky and Brent, a professional waiter who we request on each visit, took excellent care of us without being too pushy. The food was excellent as usual. My husband chose the "Flight of Steaks" and was very pleased with the generous portions of Filet, Wagyu, Sirloin and Lamb Chop. All in all, another great meal with excellent service!
Disappointing! Dark restaurant in a defunct hotel. Air conditioning on high with slow service and mediocre food at high prices did not fare well with my party of 4. They even got one of our meals wrong and while acknowledging that they had made a mistake, were unable to say "sorry". We won't be back.
The steaks were excellent. My only problem was that, because of online reviews that I read, I was under the impression that the Novi Chophouse has a tendency to under cook their steaks. This is not the case, order your steak the way you want it. I ordered mine medium well when I really wanted medium. They cooked it perfectly medium well. The ambiance was great, lighting, low noise level, and professional servers. It's pretty pricey, so I can only afford to go for special occasions. I would definitely recommend the Novi Chophouse.
Great spot for a date night. This was our local go to years ago before we move away from Novi. It was great to visit again now that we are back in the area. Very quite which was needed for our parents night out date night. It’s was great to go somewhere and able to actually be able to have a conversation without yelling at each other. Food was good and the server was good. I will be back, but this place is a little bit on the higher priced side when you add sides, salad and drinks to your meal but that is as expected if you have been here before.
Would be a prefect location for a date or work dinner.
We went for our anniversary, which I put in the reservation and told the phone caller who confirmed our reservation. When we got to the restaurant I dropped my wife off and she went to the mater-die desk and he said he would seat her but was very rude. When I arrived I was seated but nothing was said about our special occasion. The waiter never said anything also!! The waiter was very casual saying thing like "yea" when asked a question.
Overall we enjoyed the food but the staff did not make us feel like we were there for a special occasion.
NOVI Chophouse is reminiscent of the days of fine, classic dining with true gourmet food, unlike today's "gourmet" restaurant who's chef is fond of piling twenty unrelated ingredients on a plate or who's claim to fame is 300 beer brands. On our last visit, the NCH was working with an abbreviated menu as they will close for remodeling shortly. When we commented that we missed the Steak Tartare normally on the menu, we were promptly brought an order, as spectacular as ever. We had requested our favorite waiter, Brent, and his service was as exceptional as ever. As always, we received excellent food from appetizer to dessert and excellent, professional service in a quiet, relaxing, plush atmosphere. We highly recommend NOVI Chop House!
Great setting and menu. A bit dark inside, almost too dark. Service was good but not exceptional. Dinner for 4 was expensive at over 315.00 not including tip. One steak was overcooked, but others were prepared well. Overall its a good experience but not worth the high price.
The food was absolutely delicious! I had the filet mignon, my partner had the beef wellington and both entrees were tasty.
Our waitress Tracy was really good. She was very attentive and was very pleasant. She really made the experience enjoyable.
There were a few minor things that prevented me from giving this place more stars. First we had a difficult time finding the entrance. They are doing remodeling at the location so it wasn't clear if the normal entrance was indeed the correct door to go in.
And the second minor issue dealt with a bit of oversight on clearing our booth. There were several used cloth napkins under our table and at least 1 fork.
Restaurant was nearly empty , however our food took an extraordinarily long time to be made. We only ordered entrees- no appetizers- and we were in the restaurant for over an hour and a half, most of that waiting for our food. The waiter came out and appologized numerous times, but that didnt help our wait. My filet was over cooked- i ordered it medium and it came out well done. My date ordered his filet medium well and his came out medium rare. They gave us a free dessert to compensate for the wait, but even that was mediocre in flavor. Very overpriced. Will never come back.
First time at the Chop House and it was everything we hoped and expected. Brent, our server, was outstanding in every way. We had crab cakes, steaks, salads and broccolini. Too stuffed for dessert. I wanted a pear martini as I saw they had GG Poire in one of their signature drinks and even though they don't normally make a pear martini Brent came thru! For most like us this would be a very special occasion place. It is pricey but you will have wonderful memories of a delicious meal!
