While the menu was interesting, and our food was tasty and well-prepared, the ambiance is poor and detracts from the dining experience. There has been little done to improve the interior since taking over from the Grace St Grill. The dining area is cramped, with tables extremely close to each other. Given the small size of the room, there is not enough ambient noise to hold a conversation without the 4 other tables in close proximity listening to every word. We were also sitting in the direct path of a wall mounted heating unit set to high, making for an uncomfortably warm evening.

The staff was attentive and friendly, and the entire experience would be significantly different if the venue were improved.

We found out about this restaurant from our "foodie" son who lives out of town! The food was delicious, but menu is limited. Great choice for pre-opera, as service was fast and efficient. Best salad ever! Wine was surprisingly good-after tasting, we converted our order of a glass each to a bottle, and they accommodated that request readily. Overall a nice experience.

Food is very very good. Service is terrific. More of a very casual dining spot.

Delicious food, great cocktails, yummy bread pudding, fun atmosphere. One of the best burgers in town (beef and lamb) with fresh fries. Best salad. Wonderful people. I'm there nearly once a week and would go even more often if they were within walking distance. A very special place.

Very well prepared food. The Seafood was cooked perfectly. Very generous portions. You can tell this Chef knows about food and has a passion for preparing good food that others can enjoy.

Their Lamb/Beef burger is AMAZING. They only had one left, unfortunately, so my husband had that and I had their lamb ragu special. Both were delicious. We shared a seasonal salad to start with and even sharing it was still a good size portion-wise. Will definitely be back.

We visited soon after they opened and had a wonderful experience, but we were the only ones in there besides another couple. This time, the place was busy. The female owner/chef was not there and our server was very disjointed. The chef seemed to be in the weeds. Our salads were the best part. The scallops were overcooked and the chicken was cold and looked sloppy. My husband ate a few bites of it and tossed it. I don't know if we'll be back anytime soon, but we probably won't be missed because the tiny place was packed with guests.

Very friendly, nicely informal yet professional and attentive service and very high quality food, slightly eclectic and interesting combinations of fresh local ingredients. ..delicious and a bargain. Coq au vin, a tuna appetizer, scallops and faro and bread pudding with caramel sauce were all stand outs. Other dishes I didn't taste were enjoyed by our party of 6. Prices seemed low for the high quality. All this more than offset the out of the way location and rustic ambience and odd lighting.

Only restaurant that's a short walk from the Chrysler and Harrison Opera House. And worth the stop for any visit to Norfolk. Not pretentious but good authentic French food and good size portions. As the the Horn and Hardart used to say - "you can't eat atmosphere". Best pommes frites I've eaten on either side of the Atlantic (not including Nathan's - a different breed).

This is a small neighborhood restaurant, just a hole in the wall really, but the food is the best I've had in recent memory - including those 4 stars out there. From the cocktail - wonderful Smoky Manhattan (and I don't do whiskey often) to the bread pudding for dessert, the chef/owners have something amazing. We had the scallops appetizer and they were flavorful, tender and perfectly cooked. The Beef Bourguinon, Chicken Provencal and 50/50 burger (lamb and beef were perfectly and flavorfully cooked. We're definitely coming back. It's amazing what these people do with next to no kitchen. Awesome!

I had both lunch and dinner here. I prefer this place for lunch. It is small. At the counter you can have a great dialogue with the chef as it is built within a diner.

Very interesting menu.

French food without wine? Looking forward to them getting ABC license March 25th 2015. Only place walking distance from Harrison Opera House.

We loved the dinner at Nouvelle during a recent visit. They are still waiting for the ABC license but nonetheless it was a great experience. They were out of a few items but the food we had (burger, pork belly, bean soup, chicken, steak) were both deliciously prepared. We enjoyed the service by the owner/chef (?) who was professional yet very enthusiastic. Prices are very reasonable. We will go back soon.

I had the duck confit with mushroom risotto and a salad with a divine wine dressing. The duck was so moist and the risotto was not all stuck together. The apple bread pudding with caramel sauce was sinful. Not overly sweet and very buttery. It's a small place, but a good-size counter for single or couples dining. Friendly staff. We'll be back.
