Nourish Grill - Mill Valley Ratings and Reviews
Poor service, had to call for a waiter. The steak was called "grass fed." My partner and I agreed that the steer must have eaten tough grass. It was too chewy. The local persons who got a chance to sing may have been alright, but the man with the music played it so loud that you could not hear the singers. Also, we had to yell at each other to try to talk!
Reservation weren't needed since there was only one table occupied. By the time we left an hour and a half later only one table was occupied. Service was non-existent. When finally getting the server's attention he wanted to know if we wanted "to-go boxes." All we wanted was bread to go with our salad. He brought out sliced, white bread that had been toasted (as in a toaster). Given a big empty dining area, it was really strange not to be able to get the server's attention. How very strange. New very limited menu on card stock inside a plastic encased carrier.
When I said I had made a reservation, no one checked the computer. I'm doubting I'll get Open Table points for this reservation.
We went on a very slow night and yet the service was extremely slow. The food was O.K. but nothing to write home about.
There was a family with 2 children there and the parents didn't care about keeping the noise level reasonable and let them scream when they wanted to. We likely wouldn't go back. :-(
The restaurant is a bit difficult to locate, but my 2 friends and I arrived around noon. We sat at one of two outdoor tables. There were very few other customers, both inside and outside. Two of us ordered the daily specials, salmon, and one ordered a hamburger.
No waiter asked if we wanted drinks while we waited for our orders and no bread was brought to the table. There was silverware for one person and one napkin on the table. I got the attention of a waiter and order a glass of wine. About 5 minutes later he returned and told me he had forgotten the type of wine I had ordered. When our food arrived, there still were not enough utensils and only one napkin for the 3 of us. After lunch, we had to go inside to get the check.
Wow! In March, I had such an outstanding lunch that I wrote a 5 star review & scheduled another brunch w/ 4 adult friends and 2 kids. This time it bordered on disaster. The bartender apparently was missing, the waitperson finally made our drinks; and the restaurant seemed totally understaffed from kitchen to serving staff. Having a reservation and ordering our food at 11:45 AM, the waitperson came back around 12:10 to let us know that they were already sold-out of the vegetarian burger. When the food finally came, even the pasta special of the day was very mediocore at best; as was the rest of the food. We ordered a second round of drinks which took forever.
A few days ago I met a friend there for lunch. She had traveled from NY to family in Palo Alto then the drive to Nourish. I was coming from the north. Obviously we had no living room close enough to girlfriend in for a few hours after lunch. Nourish, in that most gracious style of theirs, let us stay several hours into the afternoon. We enjoyed that time of uninterrupted talking and being together. Tim, our waiter, checked on us now and then yet seemed to know when to stop by and when to leave us alone. My friend and I enjoyed the place, the view, the comfort so very much. And to top it off the food is ahhhhh-mazing, just ONE-derful.
I was taking a friend and her child for a birthday lunch and arrived at the restaurant, with no one at the matire d' station. were Club members said someone would be there shortly. Someone finally came and I commented that I hoped the service would be better than the previous time. The man looked at us and apologized, stating that the restaurant had undegone a change in management and many people had left or dropped their responsibilities. He suggested that we go eat somewhere else, To confirm, I asked if he had suggested we dine elsewhere and he said yes. A call the day before would have been nice, to save the drive across the Bridge.
The waitstaff was spot on. The water view great. Downsides: it's part of a condo or apartment complex, residents' kids were playing very loudly unsupervised in a sitting area within the dining room. They were asked to tone it down, then asked to leave. We heard a former chef from Postrio was chef there, and were so excited to try the food. Ouch. We both had the jambalaya with fish on top and a salad. I think they must have used Uncle Ben's instant rice. Awful! I found 8 tiny cubes of flavorless sausage in the tomato sauce. As far as I could tell it was almost unspiced. We needed and got gluten free, and we were grateful, plus perfect asparagus (free!)but plopping a hunk of unseasoned fish on the rice mix made for the most uninspired food.
Such a joy to see our club so packed and full of Friday Night Fun. Everyone was so excited about the fabulous generous helpings of prime rib and all the trimmings. And the service was attentive and timely. A great Friday Night tradition has returned. I look forward to more comfortable
Friday night feasts....Jill Blake and Michael Katz
I put yes on recommendations because I need more visits to decide. It was a prime rib dinner and they had icluded salmon. Salmon was not available and substituted with halibut. Although a limited menu, still the service at the food table was one person. The table service for drinks and checks was extremely slow. We received our drinks past the half way mark of our meal. It needs more efficient management. I shall try it once more on an evening with their full menu. My wife goes there with her grandson and thinks that it is better at lunch when one can also appreciate the view.
I had finally convinced my husband to go for the Chinese diner.....it was HORRIBLE!!!!!!
first of all no one told me that it was a buffet.....or perhaps I over looked that!
the soup was cold.....the ginger chicken had too much ginger.....the rice was dry and tasteless......the wontons were awful.....
unfortunately, it will be a long time before my husband will go back!
I took my wife to Nourish for Valentine's Day, having never been there before, and we both really enjoyed the meal. Since this was a prix fixe evening I don't know what the usual fare is like but our's was delicious. The restaurant is in a tennis club in a residential area of Strawberry Point in Marin, and has a club-like feel, which I imagined would be especially comfortable for a casual lunch when you could take in more of the view. I had to reschedule to a later time which the management did graciously, but then we got there early. We were seated right away, but then waited a while to be served. Since I was in no hurry that was fine. The wait staff was helpful and friendly. Would go back.
I had a birthday party at Nourish with 12 people. They accommodated us very well with excellent service. Despite that number of people, everyone's food was great! It is a very nice setting and although I haven't been there yet to sit outside I bet it's awesome when the weather is good!
What a discovery. I was looking for a new dinner spot to share with a former San Franciscan. Our meet-up at Nourish became the hit of her trip.
Although evenings regularly feature live music, tonight we dined to recordings of classic jazz with a sunset view of the hidden side of Strawberry Point.
I went healthy and lean with perfectly seared Ahi tuna with an Asian noodle salad, sesame ginger vinaigrette, and wasabi creme fraiche.
My friend was chose the Wild Mushroom Ravioli and loved it.
In case any of this sounds like a pretentious nouveau whatever, it's not. Nourish is unique.
I was pleasantly surprised by this newer local restaurant. The food was good and the atmosphere pleasant with nice views. We went early, so not very busy. The only complaint was that the bartender (who was busy) had to take care of us as the waiters were in the kitchen. The service could have been better. When they did appear they were very nice-just a bit unorganized. We would go back and maybe do a school function there some evening.
Food was a little disappointing this night, but still very creative menu which they most often 'get right." Must also report, this was 2nd visit where we ordered oysters and they were 'out of oysters.' That said, we enjoyed the music, ambiance and will definitely go back. It's a lovely spot, we enjoy it very much.
While the food and service was outstanding, the noise level was unbearable. Unfortunately we selected a Saturday evening that included a loud live band. We had no idea that there was going to be live music when we booked with OT. I'm not sure whether the music is recurring on the weekends but I suggest, if you want a conversation of any type, this is not the place to be! Otherwise our waiter was exceptional with an in depth knowledge of the menu specials as he described at least 6 of them to us. The scallops were incredible! The Chef paid a visit to our table - we were able to find out a little about his impressive background. I would definitely go again, just not when a live band is playing!
