Behind the bar, vibrant cocktails made popular during pre and post prohibition times are being shaken up with bitters created exclusively for Notch8.

the roast chicken we ordered was over cooked and the meat was very soft and bland. the sauce was too thick and mushy.
We expected a surprise birthday dessert as advertised but got nothing. open table did not inform them despite the fact I put in the reason for our visit that we were celebrating a birthday on your open table app. Very disappointing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The food was excellent, the decor stylish, the servers lovely, and live music was provided, which otherwise would have all made for a five star experience. Unfortunately for us there was a large and exceptionally obnoxious group celebrating a birthday seared directly in the middle of the restaurant and between us and the live performer. Staff did nothing to quiet this group despite their obnoxious behaviour and numerous mentions that they were so loud we struggled to place an order. Members of the group loudly discussed their private parts, used obscenities, sat with feet on furniture, and walked openly about the restaurant space as if in a private dining area.
We could only assume it was due to the expectation of lucrative payment that nothing was done to moderate the behaviour of this group, but from a Fairmont hotel this was appalling. We would have expected them to at minimum have been politely asked to refrain from disturbing other guests or be either escorted to a private dining area or the exit. Be aware before reserving that your experience may not be the comfortable and intimate one the photos (and prices) suggest.
The setting in the hotel was lovely, the staff were attentive, and the food was delicious. A lovely setting to celebrate a special birthday.
Beautiful quiet little restaurant in Hotel Vancouver. The staff was attentive and the front desk rememberes that we visited last year and usually visit ~2 times a year. The food was excellent and service quick.
Not very busy which is surprising because it has a great location, high end hotel (Hotel Vancouver), and good food.
Pricing a bit high, restaurant is very big (almost too big).
Great friendly service the only negative was the breakfast buffet closed at ten thirty ish and that is when we arrived
One member of our party ordered seafood paella which had a minute amount of seafood in it - also the rice was extremely stodgy and tasted much too strongly of parmesan cheese. She left half of her entree and wished she hadn't ordered it. Sea sar salad had 3 tiny shrimp and that was the only seafood in the dish - we shared so got one shrimp each!! Steak was delicious and halibut very good but overall the experience was disappointing as we had been looking forward to dining at Notch 8 for a long time and wanted to treat my sister (from Dublin) to a top notch dining experience.
Thanks for the chance to give our opinion.
Holy crap. This isn’t only the best hotel restaurant I’ve been too, it’s the best food I’ve ever had in my life. The service was great & the food even better. Every thing seemed to be original to their restaurant and it was all amazing. No matter what you get or what taste your craving, anything served by Notch8 will surpass your standards. I want to give it 6 stars! (PS you HAVE to try their signature bread, it’s mind blowing and addictive.)
Only problem was the BRIGHT booth lights. Other than that, the ambience is nice.
Love Notch8 breakfast buffet but today was awful everything empty took too long to fill no more dumplings no more smoked salmon Benny I ordered one and took 25 minutes to arrive
3 kinds regular cheese only selection of food getting very limited pay 120 for 3 I think we should get better food hope this message get to chef and management
Great food and service. This was a special occassion lunch and we were delighted when a cake was presented to us to celebrate our birthdays. A lovely experience overall and will return again. Thank you!
Went for pre-drinks before a function. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. We had a great time in the short time we were there!
Great refined service. Vegetarian friendly. Beautifully presented plates. Wonderful desserts. Reasonably priced for a top hotel restaurant. Wedge salad )without steak) was superb.
Great business breakfast with one exception. There was a huge disturbance with a banging noise (construction perhaps?); it was very disturbing during a business meeting/breakfast. Otherwise fantastic experience. The date/time of incident was June 5 at around 9am or 9:30am.
Great atmosphere and food
Took over an hour to get a steak and wedge salad - two hours total for lunch - that’s unacceptable. Too bad because the room, food and people are great.
Notch 8 was a delightful restaurant. The three of us each chose different entrees. The trout was fresh and tasty. The sauce was delicious. There were more vegetables than I expected from having read the menu, and they were cooked to perfection. The potatoes were lovely also. My husband ordered the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Once again there were many more veggies than stated. The beef was slow roasted and extremely tasty. Our son ordered the turkey which had fresh cranberry sauce, and the trimmings were perfect. The waiter was professional in every respect. The ambiance was pleasant and the noise level was delightfully low so that we could converse. The only issue was that the temperature was very cold, and although I had a sweater on, I was felt it was too cold. I would definitely recommend Notch 8 without reservation.
A well priced downtown brunch with good selection of seafood, salads, hot bar and desserts. Good service and leisurely.
We enjoyed the setting and the service was very good. However, the fish and chips left a lot to be desired. The chips are actually roasted potatoes and mine were not cooked all the way through. The fish was plopped on top of the potatoes and lacked taste.
The clubhouse sandwich was very greasy on the outside
I took a coworker there to celebrate birthday. We were given a very nice private table and they even offer an expected delicate and tasty piece of cake to us. The birthday was was happy! Service was excellent as well! Thanks so much!
Food came and no cutlery. Had to ask 4 times while our food sat. Overall poor service and the food was just okay.
The breakfast buffet was really good! Not tooo much variety as other places but quality makes up for it! The waiter was great with bringing over drinks that were actually included into the solid price of $59/person! (Found out feom the bill)
Great food selection. I went for the brunch buffet and it exceeded my expectation. The brandy and orange liqueur French toast, the truffle salami, and the dessert buffet were all delicious.
It wasn't what I expected, but I guess for a hotel restaurant its okay. The waiter was NOT very engaging..at first I thought he was the water guy.Food was great though. With all the other high end places...I wont be returning.
Outstanding service and attention to detail,
Wonderful food coupled with amazing presentation.
In the very centre of Vancouver.
Went here for a birthday lunch and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The food was delicious and all the staff went above and beyond.
It was a good weekend breakfast buffet, the full Sunday brunch did not start until 11am. We were not told that until we finished our breakfast.
What i like about the venue is that the tables have room between them — you can have a conversation without someone else overhearing it — it is roomy and airy and provides privacy for your and your guests. The service is fabulous — attentive but not intrusive. The food is excellent — highly recommended.
High end comfort food, consistently good across the menu. No innovation here, but lots to like. Notch 8 bread is a favourite.
A go to business lunch spot for me.
Excellent breakfast buffet- the pastries were amazing!
The food was wonderful . The decor was stylish and inviting. The live music was great. And last but not least the service , it was second to none . The server had a wonderful smile when he greeted the table , he described the menu items perfectly and was just truly nice person to talk with.
We will be returning again soon.
I went for brunch and it was below average at best. The service was terrible. I would not go back
We enjoyed a great Friday night meal at Notch8. Our server was attentive, but not intrusive. I tried the Lavender Corpse Reviver and found it did the trick for a long week .The appetizer was delicious. We had the honey bread and charcuterie tray, and it satisfied both the vegetarian and the paleo folks in our group. The meal was delicious. I had a steak and it was done perfectly. The presentation was beautiful and all the items were fresh and perfect. We had dessert and I had my favourite, cheesecake, but next time want to try the frozen lake dessert which looked intriguing.
Fantastic experience. Wendy was our server and she went above and beyond in providing wine options and suggestions.
Sorry breakfast was cold, The eggs and the sausage the bacon potatoes etc. it was a big disappointment The server Apologized and told us she brought to the attention of those kitchen. When we return to the brunch menu we noticed they were hot plate under all of the serving dishes $60 each, you would expect warm food or even hot. Everything else was excellent.
Compared to other Fairmont properties, the dining experience here was poor. The plates were not of the quality and creativity one would expect for a Fairmont, and for the price. We had to send a plate back that lacked flavor, had very average ingredients, and poor appeal. The service was fair, but should have been excellent given there were very few patrons and a lot of staff in the restaurant. The wine options were a bit limited and uninspired, and the bar manager that acted as the somm did not seem to have a strong knowledge of the wines. I wanted to give Notch8 a try against my better judgement because I love this grand old hotel, but now am certain I would not dine here again.
We thoroughly enjoyed it! Food was excellent, and the service was great! The only minor issue was that the three of us (out of the 4) received our food, and according to the server, the kitchen had made an error on the 4th order so it was delayed. However, she brought a soup, on the house, for this person who was able to start eating with us. It didn't take long for the order to come, and it was stunning, not only the presentation of it but the taste! It was the lingcod and was amazing! Thank you!
Can be fancy, can be casual good for larger groups.
Big portions, nice presentation, good cocktails. Seasar salad was great. Wednesday Porchetta special was very greasy. Atlantic char was good but the meal was not very hot. We had higher expectations, especially given the prices.
Had a late lunch with my husband and daughter today at Notch 8 restaurant. We were seated promptly by the hostess. After waiting for 10 minutes before anyone came by to acknowledge our presence and offer us drinks, I had to flag down a waiter. I understand that they were changing staff from serving the brunch buffet that starts from 11:30-2:30pm, but they had enough staff running around the restaurant to at least check on the newly seated patrons would have been nice. I noticed a couple of tables were having a hard time trying to flag someone down too. As for the food, I had ordered steak and fries, while my husband had fish and chips and my daughter had chicken strips and fries. The steak portion was very small...about six slices of meat that was slightly burnt. There was more fries than steak. Definitely not worth the expensive price tag. Perhaps management should take notes from Milestones or Earls on customer service and staff management. Not impressed and will not return anytime soon.
