Nota Bene Ratings and Reviews
We usually have a great experience at this restaurant, but unfortunately this time we booked through Open Table and they didn't have our reservation when we arrived. They put us in the bar area rather than the dining room, which was ok but not what you expect for a $200 meal for 2.
Always a treat. The atmosphere is sophisticated but not stuffy or snobby. The service is impeccable and the food divine. Never disappointed. I would recommend the lounge/bar area for more intimate dining, as the main dining room in the upper seating area can get noisy when full.
Despite being more than empty less than half the tables full, our waitress checked very infrequently with us and given this was a business meal where there is sensitivity to timing, that was unacceptable given the upscale nature of the restaurant. I am less likely to schedule another business luncheon there.
Underwhelming food and dessert. We started with the charcuterie board which was good but not great, the NB Barbari bread nice. Maybe I picked the wrong main, but the truffle & mushroom pasta was disappointing. The chocolate tart dessert was also disappointing, boring and the sour passion fruit was really random and did not go with the dessert. My husbands steak was cooked well but the potato was less than average. His strawberry dessert was good. The waitress was pleasant and helpful. Overall the food was definitely not worth the money.
Great evening, amazing service from waiters who really know their food. While it doesn't have a specific children's menu, waiters were happy to explain menu to our (9 and 11 year old) children and suggest things that might bring them a little out of their comfort zone, and the kids loved it. Tasting menu and accompanying wine were fabulous. Better than Michelin starred restaurants I've eaten in.
We had a fantastic evening at Nota Bene, and we highly recommend this restaurant. This was our first trip to both this restaurant and Toronto, but we will definitely be back. We really enjoyed the seasonal tasting menu with wine pairings. Each course was both beautiful to look at and delicious, as well as highlighting local ingredients, and the wine pairings were well chosen, and in some cases surprising but perfect (e.g., local sake with a sashimi course, served in a wine glass). The service was wonderful as well - attentive and friendly, but not too much so. The tables in the restaurant are well spaced so we felt both private and not surrounded by too much noise. As a final bonus, the tasting menu and wine pairings were a good value, compared to other meals like this we have enjoyed. We will definitely be back!
Very disappointing. We go to high-end restaurants frequently and this one was far below average. We were a table of 4 and the bill came to $400 before tip (including two bottles of wine); when customers are paying that much it is very gauche, in my view, for a restaurant to charge $5.00 for bread (classified as a "snack" under appetizers!). Moreover, the portion sizes were tiny - eg $40 for a piece of cod that looked to be 5 oz tops and no side dishes unless you paid extra. Service was friendly but slow and our bread (the $5.00 bread) was forgotten and we had to remind the server. I would not go back! I'm disappointed as I expected far better.
Came to try their Summerlicious dinner after several high recommendations from some friends. A contemporary and upscale atmosphere where business casual and business formal attire fill the restaurant. Great ambiance for dates and business occasions.
The Food: Hendrick's Gin + Elderflower Tonic - Bigeye Tuna Tartare with Soba Noodles - Arctic Char in Thai Coconut Broth with Pineapple and Jicama Salsa - Strawberry Trifle
The Feedback: Interesting food pairings, great cocktails and wine list (a generous list of options for gin and tonic lovers), typical (average) service for a restaurant of this caliber. One of the pricier options for Summerlicious/Winterlicious ($48 dinner), but definitely worth a try!
The restaurant is beautiful, the food was outstanding. Unfortunately, our service was poor. This is espcially unfortunate when celebrating a special occasion and spending $450 (for 4 people).
The waiter may have forgotten to put our order in as we waited an hour for our entrees to appear. Additionally, he never checked on us once. The manager never checked on us once. The bartender who we spent some time with prior to dinner did check on us. Even when it was clear to both our waiter and the manager that we were unhappy, no one approached, asked, or apologized. This was unprofessional and disappointing. Due to the incredible food quality and what we are hoping was a bad night for the sevice folk, I would be willing to try this restaurant again in the future.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience! Every single one of the staff were sweet, attentive and helpful without being at all 'in your face' and the food was fantastic. It was 'posh' but still comfortable. We were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary and it was a special and memorable evening. We highly recommend it :)
I had the Summerlicious menu with a friend. After the long day we had, we were very satisfied with our food and service and overall ambiance of Nota Bene. It was a relaxing environment and very professional. We were not able to change into fancy clothes, so I'm happy that no one made us feel out of place because of this. It was an inviting and comfortable place to have a great meal. My only complaint is that I felt that the main dish (steak) could have had bigger portions (and slightly more seasoning, or seasoning as an option on the table), given the price of the menu. It was cooked to perfection and juicy delicious though. I will definitely come back some day. Thank you for another wonderful experience.
I decided to try this restaurant based on glowing reviews but I was extremely disappointed. I had the summerlicious menu. Ordered the lobster tom yum, soup was essentially broth topped with cilantro. No sign of any lobster (could have easily had this at any local joint). Had the steak as main, dish came out pretty but it was chewy all through out. I would say only 10% was really edible and the rest chewy. Had the strawberry trifle for dessert. This was the only saving grace of the whole meal. It was delicious. So I am left wondering if the quality of the appetizer and main was due to the fact that it was from the summerlicous menu and hence the restaurant cheaped out? Base on my experience I truly do not get what all the hype is about.
