Not Your Average Joe's Watertown Ratings and Reviews
I would give all good scores except for restaurant was as usual too cold. I had to ask to move to a table near the pizza ovens where it was warmer. Very noisy, as usual and I like lively but don't have to want to shout. On past occasions music was too loud. Once I asked waitress to ask to have it turned down and they did, but only a little. Waiter very good and attentive. I go there occasionally so I still like it in spite of these drawbacks. Recommend: keep music level lower and temp. should be warmer. Otherwise like it.
Not Your Average Joe's is always a great dining experience.Hostess brought us to our reserved table right on time.Fresh Italian bread and garlic parmesan oil arrived at our table right away! The broiled haddock with chipotle pumpkin sqash and green beans were excellent! Hope to return soon!
Very mixed on NYAJ. My jambalaya was kind of OK. The taste wasn't bad but it looked unappetizing. It was all beige with just a few sprinkles of parsley. To me, jambalaya should be vibrant looking--bright red chorizo, green vegetables, etc... It looked more like a cafeteria dish. That said, the taste was decent. The burgers weren't great either. The bun was way too big for the size of the burger.
Overall it wasn't a bad experience. Our server was super charming and warm. But I'm not sure I'd come back anytime soon. There are too many better places in close vicinity that offer a better meal at the same price.
The tomato basil soup was delicious and hit the spot on a rainy night. MY chicken picatta was beautifully presented. My husband's sirloin tips were disappointing; the portion was very small. We split the key lime pie, which was fresh and spectacular. The service was friendly and unobtrusive.
Food was very good, service was unhurried if inattentive, the environment is noisy but it is still possible to have a conversation with occasional requests to ask your dinner companion to repeat things. I noticed the check box for handicapped access. The Watertown location is not accessible by wheelchair except from the street where there is practically no parking. You would have to leave a wheelchair person off in front and then park in the lot in the back because there is a step down to get to the entry in the back from the lot. There should be a ramp in the back to allow a safer entry into the restaurant.
This is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants! Their service is really the best. They are very good at accommodating special requests for allergies. Love their seasonal menus!! They have a nice outdoor patio in the back, which is one of a few in the area. All around, a very good choice for a family or a dinner with friends.
I love NYAJ's in general, however this was clearly an off night. The table was still very wet when we sat down (glad they cleaned it, but should have been dried off) and some of our favorite dishes just weren't up to par (new chef??). Also, when the check came, it was just a piece a paper put down on a wet spot on the table -- no book or clip board. A little disappointing, but we'll try again and hope it was just a fluke.
I brought in a bunch of colleagues from around the country, and although they could accurately be called picky eaters, they absolutely loved NYAJ's. I knew they would. The food was great, and fairly priced; the portions were big (some of us left with leftovers); and the service was truly nice.
Our party of six had a great meal. Food was good as it usually is. Never have had s bad dining experience here at Not your average joes. The new seasonal options are well worth trying. The selection of gluten free options is plentiful. Looking forward to my next visit.
We'v been here many times. Almost empty when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon, yet it took 40 minutes for someone to take our order. Came here because someone in our party has Celiacs and likes the gluten free bread option. But sadly it seems to have changed and all she got was a bun. Food was ok. Our waitress was very good, once she arrived (don't think the long wait was her fault).
Joe's is consistently the best local place for handling large groups and for casual dining. They have amazing service, and are wonderful at handling allergies and picky eaters (both issues with our family). Most importantly, their food is tasty and offers enough choices for us to never be bored.
