Not Your Average Joe's Randolph Ratings and Reviews
Not sure why I keep coming back to this place. This time I had a gift card from given to me because of a previously bad experience at the Westwood location and thought I would give it a try. This chain is hit or miss and I guess I have only had one good meal here at the Needham location. The other times have been average to poor. The food is just not that good here. Even the bread served with the oil was hard. Philly cheese steak egg roll appetizer was disgusting and the salmon I ordered tasted burnt and on top of a sloppy pile of sweet potatoes and nasty brussel sprouts was gross. Service was sub par and even the wait person admitted she was getting things wrong. Plus this location sits in a beat up shopping center strip mall a mile from the Showcase theater and looked odd. I guess I will use better judgement next time and just find a different place to eat and not waste my time with this chain anymore.
My drinks came out after my apps then the we added chicken to are pizza. It was the most dry overcomes Jed chicken we have ever had it was basically chicken powder. They did not even send a manager over to are table to even talk to us the management team should be ashamed. I️ gave this place a second chance and they failed I will never go to a Joe’s again in my life it was so bad.
Ten of us gathered to have a mini reunion. The waitress was very professional handling such a large group. The food was excellent. The highlight were the tuna wantons, sushi grade tuna served on crisp wontons. The rest of the meals were excellent as well. I had the quesadillas which were well prepared, tasty and fresh flavors. Others enjoyed a wide variety of offerings from steak tips, to rosemary skewered scallops to simple Caesar salad or grilled hamburger.
Every possible mistake was made from the time we walked in the door. Our wait resin was having s totally incompetent night. We were only 3 people. She forgot to place my entree order. After my salad, nothing. Then they rushed my order through, so rushed that they served me a cold raw hamburger with a slice of cold hard cheddar cheese. The manager saved the day. He was as nice and charming as could be. He insisted on serving us desserts that were so delicious, the main course I sent back could not possibly have been nearly as good. He saved the day!
Btw he had to call Open Table because the host evidently did not make the notification that we showed up for the reservation!
Service was quick and attentive. All of the staff we interacted with had great personalities. Not Your Average Joe's is always attentive to my daughter's Celiac Disease and has tasty options that are gluten-free. Each of our meals was very fresh tasting and cooked perfectly.
I really enjoyed my time dining at Not Your Average Joe's. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. I appreciated that the people were patient as I waited for my 6 other friends to show up. I had made a reservation for 7 and my table was ready within 5 minutes! Loved my salad! Everyone enjoyed their food. Highly recommend this restaurant!
We came in for the Oktoberfest menu which was advertised as THROUGH 10/9. We were told when we sat down that it ended on 10/8 but that the chef did have some sauerbraten available. Two out of four people in my party came for the pork schnitzel and the one that ordered sauerbraten was very disappointed. The sauerbraten he was served was clearly a cut that the chef was avoiding serving during the festival... The other three people in our party of four were very disappointed in their meals. Our waitress was less than attentive... it was just overall not a great experience and we were celebrating a birthday. We're really going to think twice in the future about patronizing NYAJ's for a special occasions
We had a wonderful time at lunch on Columbus Day. Our server, Tenzin, did a fabulous job. She was pleasant, friendly and attentive. The food was terrific. My daughter is gluten free and the choices are excellent and delicious. A special mention to the manager Alan. There was a small confusion with our reservation but he went out of his way to make sure we were happy with our table and checked on us several times during meal. Alan provided excellent customer service and was fun to talk with. Overall great job. We will be back.
The menu seems to have changed. I could deal with that but to food was extremely salty. Both my husband and I commented on it while there but we had had an appetizer already so we brought the meals home. I just tried to eat the leftovers and they are inedible. I got steak tips and he got a pork special. It’s too bad. This chain has always been a good one.
I made a reservation here for 7pm. Got there at 6:45pm, no one else was waiting, so we were the first to wait to be seated. The waiting area filled up quickly after. THREE other parties were seated before us, plus a party that came in at 7pm for a 7:15pm reservation! I do not understand NYAJ's seating order but I do know I will not go here again or use opentable because clearly reservations are not respected.
This is a go to place for us, close to home and generally reliable for good, well prepared food at a reasonable price. I wanted to try the Buttermilk Fried Chicken on the new BBQ menu. I ordered that with mashed potatoes and green beans. The chicken was very dry, not at all moist. The coating was uneven and the pieces that I had seemed to have more bones than meat. There mashed potatoes were like cement. They were luke warm and had pretty much congealed into one big hard lump. Green beans were fine. Let's just say that it was a disappointment.
The place wasn't at all busy. Our server, who didn't do any thing wrong, didn't really do any of the little things that we have taken for granted here. She was more interested in fooling around at the reception counter with another employee and was leaning over the end of the bar watching what I guess was a TV behind the bar. Just not what we've come to expect at this restaurant location. We usually come for lunch, not dinner, and the place is much busier then than it was on this night.
We'll probably still go for lunch, but I think it will be a long time before we go back for dinner.
My previous visits were much better. Unfortunately, this time I found 2 bones in just a few bites of salmon. I was offered a new piece but we were trying to make a special engagement at Showcase Cinemas, ie; 1 performance only, and didn't have time to wait. The manager took my meal off the bill and wanted to give us free desserts as well, so the service was great. The coconut grits were smooth, not as coconut-infused as one would like, and my green beans were good quality. They did heat some pita bread for me because I can't eat their onion-laced focaccia or onion-laced gluten-free rolls.
My husband's lobster roll was pretty good, he said, but had lots of mayo. My Caesar was very good, as I love the lemony dressing but the chicken in my quesadilla tasted dry and kind of old, not seasoned or spicy as advertised.
I think the good has gone downhill in the past year or so.
