Not Your Average Joe's Norwell Ratings and Reviews
It was my birthday and they made it very special. There are only a couple vegetarian items on the menu but they are all good so it's hard for me to choose. They do have a good sized menu and great drinks. The bar is a great place to go just to pop in for an appetizer and a drink.
Our waitress took our order and then disappeared. She came back 30 minutes later stating that our order was delayed the lounge was very busy. Shortly thereafter the manager came by and apologized that our order ticket got lost in the kitchen. We told him that the waitress lied to us stating the lounge was busy. The food finally arrived and it was delicious. The manager came by later stating that he was picking up the entire cost of our meal. He did the right thing. We will definitely go back. We just hope we get a different waitress.
Food is prepared fresh with special consideration for allergies. Interesting and flavorful combinations. Friendly and knowledgable wait staff. Noise level high, had hard time conversing at times during dinner due to many diners with children and large groups. Busy location, reservations recommended!
They have the best service around! They are all very friendly right from the time you walk in until you leave, from the hostess to the manager. Food is good but I would love to see more vegetarian items. Drinks are great! MAKE A RESERVATION, they are always busy
NYAJ was running a bogo special for the night due to the snow. I don't think they expected such a turnout. As a result there was a bit of confusion with service, especially when time for the check. Food was well prepared and original as usual. However, for the first time I didn't care for my choice of entree- Joe's Bolognese. Vegetables, especially carrots, overpowered the meat which is the highlight of a bolognese sauce.
The kitchen staff was focused, but not in a frenzy despite the unexpected crowd. Since it's a wide open space it's easy to see most of what is going on and they all work well in unison.
We arrived at the Norwell location and the line was out the door. This is not unusual. I had gotten reservations on Open Table and so we were immediately seated. Our server was attentive and even though the restaurant was packed, our meals came quickly. When we left, the line was still out the door, very popular on a Friday night.
We eat at NYAJ's frequently, and always enjoy it. Last Wednesday we tried the $50 for two entrees and one bottle of wine special, and it was really good. I had baked flounder with smoked Gouda polenta in a tomato coulis, topped with sauteed garlicky spinach, along with a very nice bottle of Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, and both were delicious. I will be ordering this again! My less adventurous husband had steak tips. He said they were very good, but that the accompanying mashed potatoes were not hot enough. That was the only complaint we had all night. The server was very accommodating; when she wasn't sure which wine would suit the flounder dish, she offered to ask the chef, who sent back a recommendation. All in all a very successful evening out.
First I have used Open Table in the US and the UK and it's been a very good experience.
I had never eaten at Joe's and I heard they had fantastic dipping for the their bread and boy do they ever. The dipping oil is the best I ever had.
Staff was attentive and friendly very good experience.
We've been to Not Your Average Joe's in Norwell many times. The food is generally very good, but when we've had a problem it's always been addressed by the wait staff or the management. That's what sets this restaurant apart. They seem to really care about your experience, and if there is a problem they do everything they can to fix it. Saturday we went in a little early in order to avoid the evening rush. We had a great waiter, a terrific cocktail, and a very good meal. We'll definitely be back soon!
I love Not Your Average Joes. It was is one of my favorite places to eat out. Its food isnt your generic chain american and the fact that they have a separate gluten-free menu just puts it above many others. I have learned that making a reservation is always the way to go.
Unfortunately the other night, NYAJ was having a tough time seating people. We made reservations because we have learned that is the best way to get seated quickly. We had to wait quite a bit after arriving that night where usally we are seated right a way. This is not going to keep me from going back because again it is one of my favorite places to eat out, it was just a bit frustrating.
We have been to NYAJ many times, at various locations. The one in Norwell is closest to us know so we'll go there every couple months. The service is usually always good and when we dine with our kids, they are always helpful in splitting meals or getting the kids what they need. This time we ordered steak tips, buffalo chicken pizza and grilled cheese. Everyone's meal was pretty good. I find that the pizza here at the Norwell location is always too thin, like so thin it gets burnt a bit and then the crusts are like saltine cracker crisp. I don't remember this being an issue at the Watertown, Arlington or Randolph locations, but it seems to always happen at Norwell. Hence we don't order the pizza as often as we used to. We used open table to book the reservation and were seated right away.
We had a good experience. A lovely booth was waiting for us when we arrived. We had delicious cocktails; my husband had the old fashioned which he loved, while I had the fireside sangria which was delicious and different than regular sangria with its spicy rum. My husband had a burger which he said was great, and I had a margherita pizza which was kind of dry -- I didn't realize there was no tomato sauce. Service was good but a little too good; I felt like he was rushing us along and he admitted he had to go meet his parents. Overall though a good experience from a reliable restaurant.
My mother and I go to NYAJ's every year for our birthdays and this year was no exception.
Our appetizers took longer than expected to arrive but the manager on duty personally delivered them to us, took them off the bill and gave us a free dessert. We were extremely impressed!
The waitress was very friendly. She did not ask if we wanted refills on our drinks and did forget a few things but - again - she was very kind and it was a busy night. I am a former server and now that things can get hectic.
Overall, our experience was everything we have come to expect from Not Your Average Joe's; wonderful service, smiling faces and stunning entrées!
Place has both a great bar and if want more privacy they have separate dinning room. Service was excellent. She offered some suggestions both drinks and on the menu. I had baked flounder with garlic spinach and my wife had a salad with grilled salmon. Both dishes exceeded our expectations
Whether looking for more casual salads or more sophisticated duck, this particular Joe's is consistently good, and the waitstaff very well trained. It is always a pleasure to go there and Leo, the manager, is an amazing guy whose staff seem to really like and respect him. This time our server was Julie, who was terrific. Thanks, Leo!
We have been to NYAJoe's many times. It is one of the few low-key Open Table restaurants in our area. The service personnel are wonderful...but we have been disappointed in the food more than once. My husband ordered a burger and asked for it to be medium-rare. Instead it was medium-well. The wait staff and manager were wonderful and offered to get him another or take it off the bill, which we would not allow. It was eatable and the quality of the beef was excellent, just overcooked. I ordered a salad which was very nice...a little heavy on the dressing, but I forgot to ask for the dressing to be on the side. Would love to see more Open Table restaurants in this area.
I had the sirloin tips which were ordered as medium rare, they were very much overdone and tough, did find a few that were chewable. Mashed garlic potatoes were not even warm. Green beans excellent. Waiter Bill was very good and attentive. First time at this restaurant, not sure I would return.
This is by far my favorite "regular" spot on the South Shore. I dine here at least 3 times a month. Sit at the bar with Mike or Addie and your guaranteed good service. After one or two times in, people know you and know what you like. The menu changes often enough, but the meatloaf is a staple item and must be ordered! I would never recommend meatloaf at a restaurant usually, but it's fantastic here! It's really hard to believe that this is a chain.
My only point of criticism would be with the managers. Having dined their many times over the last few months, I've only been approached by a manager once. It would be great to have one-on-one feedback instead of dealing with the iPod thingy.
...Seriously, dine at the bar.
Been to the NYAJ's in Woodbridge VA many times. This was our first visit to NYAJ's Norwell. We needed a local place to meet a family member for dinner and when we realized there was a NYAJ's close to us we knew we would get a great meal at a reasonable price. NYAJ's Norwell met all our expectations, good food, good service, and reasonable price. When back in the Norwell area we will definitely return.
We have now been to this location 3 times in the last two weeks as we are staying down the street. Consistently the servers are A+. They are so attentive and friendly and know their menu. We had one of the pizzas (blue cheese and bacon with balsamic) and it was great! We also had the pumpkin chicken dish with corn bread and it was so good. The pumpkin sauce was incredible. We are so thrilled to have found such a great spot with such good quality at reasonable prices. I will also say their wine list is a great bargain - their wines by the bottle.
sad used to be one of my favorite restaurants nut my last two visits have been terrible. On my last visit I ordered my favorite dish so happy it was back on menu but it was awful over cooked dry tough chicken and the butternut squash cannoli tasted like it was stuffed with sour rotted cheese not butternut squash. But at least this time I had a good waiter. The visit before the waiter was terrible. He never refilled our water glasses and when packing my take out neglected to pack my dessert! The sangria and bread are still good but not enough that I will be returning any time soon too many strikes Not Your Average Joe's sorry but you are out!
