This reservation was for my husbands birthday. The restaurant didn’t acknowledge it at all, despite listing it on the reservation. The restaurant was really bright, almost too bright. We weren’t overly excited about any of our food, but my dinner, in particular was not edible. When I let my waitress know that my teriyaki salmon wasn’t edible, because it was so salty, she went ahead and took it away but left it on our bill. We won’t be in a rush to head back there. It’s definitely not the joes experience that I remember from years past.
I wish Open Table would’ve told me that the restaurant was closed on Mondays. I found out when I pulled into a dark parking lot
We have been going to not your average Joe’s for many many years. They have changed much over the years, and have reduced their menu drastically since the pandemic. They used to give you an entire free meal for your birthday and reduced it to $15 off a few years ago. There is maybe one entree in the ne u for $15, but it’s better than nothing.
Our server was spectacular, and the food was good, but not great. We like the place but the choices are so much fewer than they used to be and we know that it’s hard to find help. We were thankful to have such an excellent server.
Everyone loves the bread here which is a draw for our family. The food is good but not great. My daughter said her southwest salad had way too much cheese and few beans. She didn’t like the chicken in it. She was the least satisfied with her meal. My super crunch salad was good and so was the chicken in it. The others were happy with their meals - chicken parm, steak tips and salmon.
This location is showing its age compared to others in Waltham and Westwood. Bathroom wasn’t too clean.
This was unfortunately the second time that I asked for schnitzel during your October Fest menu, only to be told that it was not available. Disappointing.
I really like NYAJ's bar side. I won't eat in the main dining rom because it is way too bright, I feel like I'm in a cafeteria. The wait staff there has always been great
our server was excellent! She was super nice and accommodating!
Portions smaller than in past, prices higher. Server was attentive as could be but clearly the restaurant was understaffed.
Service was fantastic, our server was outstanding; quality of food seemed to have decreased over last year.
Our waitress, Colleen was really nice
My husband had to share my dry chicken dish because his salmon was so under cooked
We eventually got it take out to bring home. That was disappointing
We met friends we haven't seen in awhile and the food issues were awkward.
The customer service was great
Booked a reservation Monday; drove up from the Cape and it was closed. Shouldn’t have taken the reservations of you weren’t open.
I went to enjoy a meal with a friend I had not seen in a while and we were both disappointed. Before I go for the bad I want to point out the good. Our Server Melissa was excellent and on point and did her best to make our visit good one! Melissa and a great Manhattan made with Bulleit bourbon were the shining stars!!
Our cheesesteak egg rolls were ok and our soft drinks were fine.
The Restaurant was very clean including the restrooms!
Now the bad:
The air conditioning was out of order making the temperature inside the restaurant very uncomfortable.
My Poke bowl was under seasoned to the point of being close to flavorless and would have been better had the diced raw tuna been served on a bed of chilled greens and vegetables in a slaw of sorts the texture of the rice and quinoa were unpleasant and grainy and the tuna was soft and mealy. The crunchy tortilla strips on top, mushrooms and pea pods off to the side didn’t add much. My big question is where was the ponzu sauce or the siracha aioli this dish was under dressed and under seasoned it was like a bad date “under dressed and lacking personality”
My friend’s Crispy Chicken Southwest salad also suffered from the same fate it was under dressed, under seasoned and lacking in flavor.
The dining room temperature and the meal quality had us cutting our visit short so we could head elsewhere for dessert.
I used to be a regular and this was my first visit to NYAJ’s since the early pandemic shutdown and I understand that they may be getting back on their feet but there are some food fundamentals currently missing from the equation that have me temporarily removing them from my list of goto dining establishments I will try them again in a month or so and hopefully they will get their MOJO back!!
Food was excellent and so was the service. This is a favorite restaurant of ours, and we have some favorite items on the menu. Tried Crispy Bang Bang shrimp for the first time and loved it. Only disappointment was that they were out of a New Sealand wine we wanted. Our waitress was wonderful, attentive without being a bother, pleasant and cheerful.
Food was good, our waitress was very attentive. Of course the bread at the beginning of the meal is amazing as always. The only complaint I had was the cost of the burger. A base burger is $13.50 and every topping you add is between $1-2. So I had a burger with cheese, onions, mushrooms, bacon, and it cost $18.50. I think that's a little much. But, I know restaurants are still recovering so I am willing to pay it. Just a head's up!
We always enjoy dining At Joe’s! The food is always great.
Excellent service, tasty food, good location. Overall very good.
Good food and good service!
Food was great, as always. My only complaint is that they apparently changed their policy on free refills, which was not obvious from the menu. Obviously, it’s their prerogative to change their policy, but I really think servers should let diners know when they ask for a refill that they’ll be charged again, especially when it’s a change from previous practice. No way would we have knowingly spent $13.50 on 3 glasses of a non-alcoholic drink. Not a huge deal—just a little frustrating.
Great food and great company
It pains me to write this review as I am a long time fan of NYAJ Norwell but our meals were a disappointment. First off we were served the complimentary bread and dipping oil. The bread was fresh and delicious. The dipping oil which NYAJ is famous for was served with the seasoning and cheese but no oil. I chose the chicken piccata entree which I have had many times. My dish was anything but chicken piccata. It consisted of two overly cooked chicken breasts which was covered with a slightly moist pasta but definitely no piccata sauce. My companion ordered the meatloaf which is a favorite of his. The meatloaf and potatoes looked like yesterday’s leftovers. I am fully aware that most restaurants are struggling these days so I tend to give them a pass. I want this restaurant to succeed as it has been a long time “go to” restaurant for me. I will give it another try in the future. The saving grace of the night was our server Owen. Owen was working his butt off but was able to provide very good service.
I've been going to Not Your Average Joes for years, and I must say for the first time I was disappointed in my meal. The menu is rather limited these days, and a lot of my favorites are no longer on the menu. My dining partner is vegetarian, and found very few meals to pick from. Almost everything comes with chicken... and even the one pasta dish that didn't include chicken, had prosciutto instead. I had the buffalo chicken tenders, but honestly they were just mediocre. They were tough and tasted like they had been cooked earlier and then just re-heated when I ordered them. All in all, the food was disappointing. The highlight of the day was the service. The waitress was terrific. She took her time with us... checked in on us repeatedly... and was personable and pleasant. She saved a rather so-so trip. Rarely had to write a review like this, but I hope things will improve at the restaurant. I've always enjoyed Not Your Average Joes, and I'd like to able to go back!
Food seemed to have a lot of garlic. Mash potatoes were an odd color and had a strange taste.
The food is always consistent and the service has always been good.
Cobb salad was supposed to have chicken. There was no chicken and the server just said “ sorry ‘bout that.” I would like the manager to contact me at (781) 588-6316
Food and service was great! The rose sangria was delish!!
I have some health issues and therefore I am limited to what I can eat. At Not Your Average Joe's there are many choices. Everything taste good and I can request modifications if necessary. The cooks do a good job with any requests. The main reason I love NYAJ is that the food is excellent!!!
The food choices are amazing especially for someone who needs a Gluten Free menu...the waitress was wonderful - couldn’t have been happier with the food and the service.
Waitress was clearly stretched so we had difficulty getting ahold of her for ordering, etc
It was a awesome visit. Everyone was friendly and the food was delicious! We absolutely ADORE the bread and oil that is served before the meal. Keep it coming! Thank you.
We sat outside so it was very quiet. The food was good...the menu hasn’t changed in a long time but with the pandemic that is to be excused.
Our server was and pleasant and efficient, but not over bearing. I’ve had her before and enjoyed the same level of service. I wish I could remember her name to give her a shoutout because she is an asset to NYAJ’s in Norwell.
Simply amazing! We had a great experience yesterday, for lunch. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, perfect amount of attention and food was very brought out very promptly. I had the tuna poke bowl. It was very, very fresh, with outstanding flavor. Our server was fantastic and I highly recommend stopping by the Norwell location for lunch or dinner!
Great normal menu but the special Arctic char was outstanding. As always the carrot cake (gluten free) is to die for.
It was great to get back in here!
First date. We did outdoor dining and it was a great night for it. The lake across the street made for a gorgeous view, and the ambiance was perfect. Prices were okay, but the portions were a bit smaller than I remember. The food was delicious, as always, and the service was top notch.
I’ve yet to have a bad experience at any NYAJ locations. They’re doing something right.
Please remove my ratings. THE RESTAURANT WAS CLOSED TODAY! We had to find another place. Please update my record & your info for NYAJ.
Food was good, as usual. Somewhat pricey. Wait service was fair, mainly due to an extremely slow kitchen. Not what I expected for middle of the afternoon. Had to wait nearly an hour for the meal, and it was not busy.
Great waitress and food!
I'm sad the Randolph location remains closed, but nice to know I can go to Norwell!
