I have been to this chain before, not this location. We were seated immediately. I had ordered their seasonal margarita, was surprised it wasn't served in a margarita glass. Ordered the pork, the waitress informed us it is cooked medium. In case we wanted it cooked to a different temperature. It came out well done, crispy, and dry. And where the pork comes out already sliced, anyone could see this. The waitress was not very friendly, she seemed bothered that she was even there. It was not the typical experience I have had at these restaurants. It was my birthday and this made it difficult to enjoy and celebrate.
The waitress was upset that we asked for new plates, due to the current / existing plates being dirty at the table. She then disappeared for a while after replacing the plates. It looked like she was upset that we asked for new plates. I am sorry - but when you goto a establishment, you expect certain basics that you expect.
I received a birthday coupon, so my daughter and I drove up to Newburyport from CT to enjoy lunch and the town. It was a long and crowded trip, but it was worth it! Our lunch was great; we enjoyed a drink to toast to my birthday. The service was quick and presented with a smile! After our experience just getting there, this was all greatly appreciated!!!
Our meal was delicious. Our server was attentive and pleasant.
good afternoon - we have been to not your average Joe's many times and this time it was less than stellar - food wise - our server was wonderful but my wife had to send back her salmon twice to be cooked correctly and my fried chicken was incredibly dry and the mac and cheese was cold with cold ritz crackers on top
Great location in a lovely spot in Newburyport. Had lunch with our grandchildren ages 3 and 6. Service was good. Food tasty and a good value. Predictable as a chain restaurant which makes it a good choice.
Fair food and good beer, but marred by extremely loud screaming children even though I had reserved a table in a quieter area because one member of the party wears a hearing aid. We were unable to converse at all until the children finally left to go to bed (after 6:30).
Good food at fair prices. Great views of Merrimack river.
This was our 3rd time here and was just as good as the first time great menu lots of choices
Great fun reasonably priced Newburyport restaurant. Watch the downtown scene or sit out back and enjoy the park and waterfront/
Food and service are very good. I enjoy this restaurant and the food and service are never a surprise.
We had five diners with varied tastes that ranged from vegetarians to meat eaters so it was a real joy to find a restaurant that satisfied everyone. We didn't feel rushed which was great as we were celebrating three birthdays and a new job. Our waitress had a great sense of humor and the food was good. The only downside of dining in Newburyport is finding a parking space.
We went on the 3rd of July. Needed a place for lunch that had a diverse menu and good food. This restaurant met our expectations. Wonderful wait staff. Mew will be back..
We were seated in the back, getting a view of the Newburyport Harbor. Great food choices -- the salmon was terrific and one of our party had the steak tips. Another in our party requested gluten free choices, and there was no problem, plus there were plenty of gluten free choices too. Our server, Nick, was very engaging with us, yet still provided professional service. My only complaint is that it was a bit too noisy, though conversation was still possible at our table. I would definately go back to NYAJ's.
Food was just okay - nothing great. Bland and frozen tasting. The best part was the bread and oil - delicious!
The open table reservation worked great. We were able to get an outside table (which is the reason we went to Not Your Average Joes). We live within walking distance and have many restaurants to choose from, but we like NYAJ for outside dining. The food was so so this time around, but the waite staff was very good.
Did not offer gluten free bread, eventhough I Identified as GF. Asked for it after drinks were served, but server did not bring separate oil dip. Ordered substitute veggie instead of potatoes, but request not met. Friend's order came with potatoes instead of rice, and frankly meal was not exactly what was ordered.
Would have been nice if manager offered to adjust bill, so we could consider going back. Disappointed birthday night out.
We visit Joe's often. They consistently provide good food and great service. The location has some great outdoor dining.
Service was terrible. So slow and forgetful. Food was great as always.
We dine at NYAJ generally 2 to 3 times a month and were surprisingly disappointed with our most recent visit. Generally we can always count on a nice selection of menu options with some creative choices available. Not so this visit...Soup wasn't hot and when returned and brought back, it still wasn't hot. Service was somewhat scattered, with no real check in to determine how food was or whether we wanted additional drinks.
There seemed to be a lot of new help so perhaps that was a reason, but with so many choices in Newburyport and more on the way, hopefully this won't be a constant with expectations.
One other note- For the past several months, I have asked what the seasonal selection was for draft beer, and the answer always is they have "just run out." The remaining selections tend to be 'corporate' choices, and with several local breweries in the area...all served at other NBPT locations...it would be great if NYAJ could expand its selection
We love NYAJ! Was just a little disappointed that they were out of Ahi Tuna Wontons because that is my absolute favorite there but I can understand because we went so late in the evening they must have just had a lot of orders of it that day. Other than that the waitress was great and everything else was great!
Wine was disappointing we ended up ordering other wines! Food very good and always love gluten free menu! Server was not very attentive and slow service!
We are never disappointed. Wonderful meal. Wine specials are always a great value.
We decided to go out for Easter and glad we did. We really enjoy Sangria Sundays and decided to go to Newburyport. We are so glad we did because Bo was an AMAZING server - very professional, friendly and customer oriented. So glad we were lucky enough to have his help and we will certainly ask to be seated in his area in the future.
Always a great choice
I was really impressed that there were several dishes for vegetarians. The food was delicious. I did not realize that this is part of a Resturant chain, and am thrilled to see that there is one near my hometown. ☺️
We dine at NYAJ at least once a month; it is one of our go-to restaurants in Newburyport. Our experience is consistently good, and for this visit was exceptional-especially the server
Six adults met for an early evening dinner on a Sunday to celebrate two birthdays among friends. We have widely varying tastes in food and everyone found a favorite dish to order and we all enjoyed our dinner. Really appreciate the choice of either a 6 or 9 ounce pour of wine. Our server was efficient and cheerful. All around nice experience. Definitely will return.
I was there Saturday night after other plans fell through. We were able to get a reservation last minute for 630. It was bitterly cold and they sat us next to a drafty door, but encouraged us to change seats. Once we did, the power outage occurred and we lost the area heaters in the "porch" area by the patio, and the hood above the grills weren't functioning properly.
The place started to fill with smoke, but wasn't the restaurant's fault dealing with power issues. Our food made it before the power shut down the oven but others weren't so lucky. Their computers went down, so we paid cash, and realized after we left we were overcharged for our meal (that is avoidable unlike the power issues.)
The manager did come around and apologize to those that wouldn't be getting their food, but no one was comped any food or drink, which I would expect based on the circumstance and what has happened to me at other restaurants, for lesser issues.
It started to get cooler as we were leaving, and since it was the night it hit -8 in Newburyport, I'm surprised it took at long as it did with that and the wind.
I can forgive the heaters, lights, smoke, and computers. I can't forgive the overcharge (even under stress your servers have to get this right), and not comping at least one item. I worked in restaurants and happily paid for customer drinks when food orders were wrong or circumstances out of our control ruined the experience.
While the descriptions of each of our entrees sounded appealing, the meals themselves were really disappointing. The menu contains lots of creative looking options, but the taste of what we received was bland. We have had very good meals at the Methuen NYAJ, so we had high hopes for Newburyport.
