We had a very enjoyable meal. We love the foccacia! Our waiter was attentive despite the very busy evening.

I always enjoy Not Your Average. This was a small , 3 person, family gathering for a birthday and we all enjoyed it very much. All had fish and each was very tasty and well presented. Service was attentive and served in good time. The restaurant was a bit noisy for good conversation. We'll be going back again soon. Birthday $15 coupon is a great perk .

What's going on. I love going there, always make a reservation and always cane get in and out at lunch time in an hour. This time the kitchen took forever! Our waiter TJ, kept coming to the table and others in the same area apologizing for the delay.
Never seen the kitchen so slow.

Not a good experience..Grandsons GR burger was so burnt (he ordered it MW) he scraped off the top and bottom..The waiter did offer to replace it but it had taken so long to get,we didn't want to wait longer. My husband's jambalaya had burnt pieces of ham and sausage and he returned his uneaten. My mustard chicken with string beans was good..the onion strings, tho, were barely cooked and inedible.

The waitress was great but the food seemed to take longer than expected. The quesadilla was blackened which means a crunchy burnt flour tortilla, it was dried out and not very flavorful.

Hi. 1st time there. Was ok. Both our meals were overcooked so that was the biggest bummer. Next time I'll try something else. The server was very sweet and professional.

wasn't very busy for a Friday evening so my friend and were pleased. i asked for a special request for my pizza (which has been accommodated at other NYAJs before) and the waitress said she'd check and let me know. Our dinners came out, sans special request, and when i brought it up to the waitress she said "oh yea, thats a no go" - i would have appreciated being told my request couldn't have been honored prior to receiving my entree. beyond that service was OK, it wasn't busy but we still felt neglected throughout our dining experience - we had to ask for silverware after our dinners were served, etc. not sure i'd return to this particular NYAJs but do enjoy other locations.

Have had a bunch of very average meals at this restaurant and yesterday's lunch was so mediocre thought I should write a review. Bread is deletions but meals are often charred or Luke warm. Waiters are usually nice. It is always a little loud In here too.

The quality of our food was excellent as usual. We'd had a long day and Dorothy ended up working late so making dinner wasn't in our plans. We just needed to go somewhere and be waited on to avoid dealing with cleanup after dinner.

Table was ready for our lunch.
Service was great - attentive but not overbearing.
Food arrived quickly.
Food was tasty - one had a salad, one had a sandwich, and one had fish. Fish was fresh.
Would return for another visit to try some more selections.

The restaurant was noisy beyond any level I have heard before. There were screaming children running loose, a blender behind the bar that was so loud the table shook, and it took 45 minutes to deliver 3 sandwiches and a salad. When my sister ordered a veggie burger, she did not expect it to be a pile of mushy, squishy vegetables on a roll. When we told the waitress that this was not what we expected, the waitress apologized and said that it always comes that way. It did not, however, describe it that way in the menu. I have had veggie burgers and they are always formed. The waitress, who was very hurried and harried did not offer any compensation for this. My turkey burger was o.k. but a lot on the spicy side. No one was very impressed with the food, the service, or the ambience. We will not ever be back.

We go to Joe's often and are always happy with it. This time, we brought several out of town guests with us and at least 3 of us had problems with our meals. The waitress resolved all of our issues to our satisfaction, but it didn't make the restaurant look so good to have so many problems.

Love "not your average joe's" in general. Great ambiance, easy going atmosphere and good choice of different kinds of food. Everybody can find what they look for dinner. This time the drinks were nothing like a simple mojito we requested (raspberry?) The food was good as usual (great salads, good meat). However the service was just below average, likely the waiter was overwhelmed: no forks/knives with the food (had to ask twice), no spoon and/or sugar for the coffee (had to ask and arrived after I used another tool for the job) just a few things we had to ask.

We had a nice Father's Day dinner but I feel that the portion sizes for some things are way too small for the cost. This has always been a family go-to but the increasing costs are making it less family friendly. No longer one of my favorites.

We mostly enjoyed our food--shrimp tacos and meatloaf. Portions were very generous, so we took some home. Hostessing was great and service was fine. Food was not outstanding but fine for what it is. The restaurant was so noisy that we are not likely to return. Good place if you want to be surrounded by a youthful party energy and don't find a constant din annoying.

We had the rosemary scallops and haddock. The fish was cooked perfectly and the couscous with corn and pea pods with the scallops was excellent. The haddock came with french fries and coleslaw but was able to change that to vegetables. That is what is wonderful about NJAJ's. You can do substitutions without any trouble. Would definitely recommend the scallops as they come but check out what thy are serving with the haddock.

Been to NYAJ many times -unfortunately this visit was not good. Several ordered items delivered wrong- by the third or fourth missed item we just cancelled the dish altogether. Manager was attentive with taking off bill, but kind of disappointing and ruined a nice celebration of family birthday. Hopefully it was just an off night and not a trend for this usually good family restaurant.

We consider ourselves NYAJ regulars, and Needham is our favorite location, although not the closest to our home. On this occasion, the steak tips had a bit too much marinade and a sear that was crunchy on pieces of meat that were very small. But the haddock and pork were excellent.

Our server, as most are there, was great.

I have taken my family to NYAJ a number of times for our weekly time out together because the food and service were always at a good to commendable level. The last two times (four weeks in between), the service has been slow/questionable and the entrees not fit for most canines. A month ago, both my son and I ordered sirloin tips. Both entrees were ordered at medium cooked level, but received something cooked to the texture of shoe leather. Just recently, I ordered cheeseburgers with another family member, requested again at medium level of preparation. This time the opposite happened, where I was essentially brought steak tartare served on two buns. Not sure if I or my family will have the intestinal fortitude to venture there a third time after this.

Hi! We were super happy with the round booth got our party of five. Most of us got the goat cheese salad, which is a perennial favorite of everyone I know in Needham! I decided to branch out and try the watermelon/feta/arugula salad. All of the ingredients are great, but it wasn't as tasty as it could have been with more watermelon. Which we asked for, and our server brought , so all good. The focaccia bread was also especially fresh and delicious.
