Not Your Average Joe's Needham - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
The food, ambiance and service were all great. The only problem that I had was, I ordered a salmon dish. The food was great but the portion of salmon was prohibitively small. I could have eaten more than twice as much salmon as what was served to me and I am not a huge eater, just an eater of average portions. The portion of the accompanying vegetables was adequate, just the salmon portion was way too small.
we brought our grand-kids and the food worked out well for all however the server didn't realize that 5 year old children need something to entertain them and that their meal should be served as soon as it's ready. We felt the restaurant just needs to train their servers better in this respect. also we were seated in the middle of the room rather than at a booth off to the side which would have been better for all patrons and more easily kept the children from being under foot. they forgot to give them the crayons and paper they usually do....
Restaurant was unseasonably cold. Manager put the burden on corporate who he said regulated the thermostat. He was busy shutting off ceiling vents. Poor comfort, then my meal was not particularly good. Chicken tenders overlooked, salad over dressed, all in all, not worth what we paid to be there. Saturday lunch meal.
We had a server who was new, so she was a little disorganized, meaning we had to wait quite a for pretty much everything we requested - even water. When I asked for some wasabi sauce for my ahi tuna, my companions were well into their meals before my sauce came. I had finally given up and started to eat.
Otherwise, the experience was fine and the food was pretty good.
I was surprised to she the "re-plating" of the meatloaf dish which I had frequently on visits several years ago. I hadn't had in a while so ordered it recently and found a very small piece of meatloaf buried under mashed potatoes, veggies and onion strips. A little disappointed.
I come here with friends as we always do before the Needham Community Council Fashion Show. It is a great tradition. The food is always so good and I just Love the Tomato Basil soup - I have it every time!! Nothing short of outstanding on the service and Joe's is always so accommodating! Thank you!
Family of four dined on 4/1. Medicore at best service. Overcooked kids chicken, dry chicken enchilada, undercooked BBQ chicken flatbread. Would have sent all three back but never saw our sever after he dropped the entries off. Only decent thing was kids cheeseburger. We will not return.
My wife's birthday is April 1st and we enjoyed our time together and with family. We have been to several NYAJ in the area and always enjoy the menu, ambiance, service and locale. Our waiter, Oscar, was attentive and right on the $ with his food recommendations.
I meet a group of friends for lunch once a week and have since NYAJ Needham opened over 12 years ago. We all love it! I always make a reservation which is a must, because it can get very busy and some of us still work and need to get in and out in under an hour. I have allergy issues and their allergy protocols are excellent. We have had a regular server and when we walk in, it is like visiting friends. As regulars, we ar always warmly greeted.
NYAJ is the best casual dining restaurant for lunch in a town full of restaurants. We still always choose NYAJ.
Have not been to Joe's in a long time. We were going to a concert at Needham Town Hall right across the street so the location was perfect. Our reservation was honored on time. We were seated in a booth that was fine for six people. Wait staff was friendly, helpful with explaining the menu's new dishes. What I love about Joe's is that they keep some favorite dishes on the menu. Everyone enjoyed their meals, the service was fast and we made the concert in plenty of time.
I recently ate at Not Your Average Joes Needham for lunch with my husband and children. When we arrived for our 12:30 reservation I was told we could not have a booth - even though half the restaurant was empty. They seemed to have not opened the other half, so we sat at a table instead. I wouldn't have minded except that when we left they HAD opened that part of the restaurant and people who had arrived later than us were sitting in the booths over there. Strange at best.
I ate the slow roasted pork shank which was very good. The polenta that came with it was grainy and lumpy. My husband ate the steak frites and said it was good. The kids had eaten a delicious pizza at the Watertown location recently, but were disappointed by the soggy mess that was served here instead.
This restaurant isn't bad, but it pales in comparison to the Watertown location which is cleaner and has a better chef.
Just got back into town late afternoon & happily was still able to get a dinner reservation on Valentine's Day @ NYAJ in Needham. Food is always reliable & fairly reasonably priced. Had a nice bottle of Pinot Noir & our entrees of Sole/Crabcake & Hangar Steak (properly cooked) were both tasty, as were the accompanying roasted brussels sprouts. Service was capable & efficient if not overly engaging.
My Cobb salad looked rather messy and the chicken was really dry. My friend had French fries which were clearly made ages ago, so he asked for fresh ones which were immediately brought out. Guess the place is busy enough not to care about what they serve. On the bright side, they did correct it when it was brought to their intention.
We were glad we had made a reservation, because there were a large number of drop-ins waiting for a table when we arrived. The bar area was very lively. The hostess made sure that we were soon seated at a table. The staff was very prompt and friendly, and the food was excellent. We only wish that the place was less noisy, since it was hard to converse across the table.
The chicken enchiladas were burnt on the edges. When it said served with black beans, I thought there would be more than a mere sprinkling of them on top of enchiladas. The rice was overcooked and dry. The apple gogi berry crumb was not crumbly. It was gummy.
We made reservations for 5 pm on New Year's Eve. We are long time customers of NYAJ in Needham and enjoy their food and service. After ordering our meals, suddenly a large group of families with children arrived. Some of the kids were out of control :( 6 boys (ages 5-10?) in one booth jumping in/out, screaming, and acting as if the restaurant were a playground. This behavior escalated when at least 6 or 8 more children sat nearby at a long table reserved for them and their parents. Immediately the Noise Level rose to an unacceptable (beyond energetic) level. We tried to eat in silence (our only choice since conversation was impossible). Finally, we asked to talk w/ the manager who arrived in just a few minutes. We appreciated his sympathetic ear and his professional demeanor. He knew that these families were ruining the evening for other diners, apologized a few times, and offered the 3 of us complimentary desserts which we greatly enjoyed. I hope that on any evening including New Year's Eve, NYAJoe's and other restaurants will be more careful and aware when a reservation is made for 15-20 people; it is important to know that more than half of those were children. It is a shame that the parents of these children had never taught their kids necessary restaurant 'voice' and manners..............and allowed their kids to cause such a noisy, inappropriate dining experience. Even our waiter complained that he needed some Excedrin due to the headache he had after serving these families.
It's hard to pass this place up when you know you're getting some of the tastiest Foccacia bread and dipping oil around with every meal. My wife and I took our infant daughter out for an early New Years dinner with the in-laws. The seasonal menu offers some nice dishes and their salads are filling with good dressings. Craft beer selection is a little lacking but they rotate somewhat often. This is our go-to spot in Needham and they offer takeout.
There was an exceptionally loud group of young children in the next booth kicking the back of my seat. Sitting through the meal was an ordeal which was a major disappointment. The service was good and the food was good but the atmosphere was quite unpleasant. Not going to return
We were charged for the birthday cake, when almost everywhere it is complimentary. We were 5 people and were sat at a table for 4. After we were done, it took over 20 minutes for our server to come get the empty plates. This place is getting progressively worse.
