Not Your Average Joe's Methuen Ratings and Reviews
We usually have a good experience here. This time it was a mix. We waited for 35 mins despite having a reservation The host appeared to be seating in order of walk-ins versus reservations. Our waiter was awesome, very attentive and personable. Food presentation was good. Scallops were delicious
Don't come here. They purposely over book or what I call profiteering at the cost of the customer experience. While sometimes that works for this place it doesn't. Even the hostess walked off the job - I am not kidding you. Service was rushed and disingenuous. There are other option in that area. Look elsewhere.
Not Your Average Joes is a fun place to go with friends or for a date night. It is causal enough to be comfortable, but still has a slightly formal, above average atmosphere. The food is delicious, and they have some of the best Sangrias. The wine list is good, but I'd love to see more local wines on it. Southern New Hampshire has some amazing vineyards whose wines would make a great addition to the list.
The service is fast and friendly. I love how management always checks in. I also love how they are willing to accommodate changes to menu items, like a veggie piccata instead of chicken piccata.
Ordered Steak Tips Medium, they were well done & burnt, not edible. The pizza had no flavor, barely any sauce on it, would have probably been good had it of had sauce on it. And the kids pasta with sauce had a teaspoon of sauce on it. I'm feeling like they don't like to give out sauce. Dip was delicious, filled up on that.
Food and drinks here are always excellent. Service has gone very downhill past 2 or so years. Waitress did not clear our empty cocktail glasses when brought new ones and left them sitting on table all night. Who wants to look at dirty glasses or plates ? I still eat here regularly due to great food, outdoor tables, and convenient location. But there is something lacking with the service every single visit.
Lunched at NYA Joe's at a less busy time, so it was quieter and service more prompt (not that service is usually bad) than usual. We ordered an Oktoberfest appetizer, pretzel with cheese dipping sauce and it was tasty. Two of us ordered our main meals from the Oktoberfest specials menu - pork schnitzel and sauerbraten - and found them flavorful and satisfying. The third person in our party ordered a hamburger and fries and was happy with that selection. Our waitress was very attentive and refilled our soft drinks without our needing to ask. Since our meal was substantial we did not order dessert, even though there are many tempting dessert selections (which we have tried before).
NYA Joe's is one of our very favorite casual restaurants, as it offers reasonably priced, good quality meals with more creativity and flair than the typical casual dining establishment. We know we will be back to dine again at NYA Joe's.
Our party of 10 came for lunch over the weekend. The first indication that this may not be a good visit, was that they hadn't made the sauce for one of their two advertised specials, so we could not order it. When our food finally arrived at our table, it had been 45 minutes since we had ordered it, 5 out of 10 of the meals ordered were cold, and our kids' pizzas looked like they had been sitting out for some time. Our waitress kindly brought the cold meals back to the kitchen, but returned with them less than 5 minutes later. We ate them but they were still just lukewarm. When we were finished our meals, the waitress came back out to tell us the manager wanted to offer our party desserts to make up for the meals, but at this point we had been there for over an hour and a half and the many small children with us were beyond exhausted. The last thing we wanted at that point was to wait for more "average" food to come. They did remove 2 meals from our bill, which was a nice gesture. We have not had a bad experience at Not Your Average Joe's in the past, but this experience was awful, incredibly disappointing, and below average.
We really like the food at NYAJ's, but as good as the food is it's the service that makes it our favorite restaurant. Both of my kids have food allergies, my husband is picky, and there is never any problem in having our orders tweaked to keep the kids safe and my husband happy. On top of that, the servers are always available if you need a refill on a drink or anything else, even on a busy Saturday evening.
Ordered the Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza - it was very disappointing. Little to no sauce, little to no cheese, the arugula "salad" was skimpy & not dressed. Others at the table were reasonably satisfied with their entrees but I wouldn't recommend a $13 pizza with $2 of ingredients to anyone and it doesn't make me want to return for another meal.
