Not Your Average Joe's Hyannis Ratings and Reviews
Food, service, atmosphere were all great. We were seated right away, great spot by the window. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We had a seasonal appetizer that was very good. The carrot cake was divine!! I only wish there were locations near our home. We were in Hyannis for vacation. Will definitely try another location when we come across in our travels.
We have gone to Not Your Average Joe's many times. We were in Hyannis for a quick trip around lunch time and decided to go to have their tuna wontons which is an appetizer. This is definitely large enough to share and one of our favorites. That with two glasses of wine was a perfect lunch.
Me and My friend both started off with the side order of the Cescer salad, it was the best I've ever had.For My Entrée, I ordered the Sweet blue burger, My friend ordered the pasta Fornue with four cheeses and sausage. Both dishes were really good.Took home leftovers.
The Hyannis NYAJs is attached to the Cape Cod Mall so patrons tend to be families more so than the other NYAJ restaurants.
The food prep was good, but also not as good as The NDartmouth site. Their usually delicious bread was slightly undercooked and over salted.
The chicken picatta was flavorful but the pasta texture was a bit rubbery. The chicken was very good. Our waitress was friendly and efficient although she was very busy.
I'll save my visits for the NDartmouth site. Overall our dinner was just okay.
Usually we have been highly impressed with the food, but this time the fish obviously was cooked some time before serving, the mashed potatoes were dry - Probably prepared long before serving or left on the warming table too long. The cole slaw had an unfamiliar and unflavorful dressing - the waiter promptly returned with substitute vegetable that was very tasty.
Best part about NYAJ...is that they comp you when things go sideways. And almost everything did this meal. Apparently, as the hostess/manager explained, "we went from a $9,000 hour to a $16,000 hour in about 90 seconds." OK, thanks for sharing your financials - TMI. What she was referring to was the fact that the restaurant, and consequently kitchen, was deluged with orders in a very short window of time, and evidently, most of those orders came into one station. So a meal that otherwise would have been at the table in 10-12 minutes took nearly 40, and one of the dishes - fried chicken - was grossly overcooked (or perhaps overbaked under the heat lamp while the second part of the order caught up). Thankfully, we had a wonderful young waiter who was glib and funny and kept us entertained. He ended up (with management's approval, I'm sure) comping our dessert and removing the chicken from the bill. So at least the experience - flawed as it was - only cost the price of a burger and a handsome tip.
Look, I'm not out to ruin businesses unless there is genuine rudeness or seriously bad food involved, and neither was the case here. But I write reviews like this to inform this particular restaurant - both in Hyannis and at other NYAJ locations - that they have some logistics issues they need to address in order to bring fresh, hot, properly prepared meals to the table in a timely way. That said, I commend them for their policy of making customers whole when problems interfere with a full enjoyment of the meal.
Celebrated hubby's birthday there for lunch - delicious food - steak tips done perfectly and lobster roll was to die for - server so attentive and nice - restaurant very clean - had a most enjoyable time - loved when they all sang happy birthday! Will be back!
We went in on a busy Saturday because we had tickets for a show in the area. We were shown straight to our table by very friendly staff. Our server Daniel was funny, knowledgeable, and attentive. We love that you have the option to order very creative, unusual foods or stick to simple comfort foods here. The menu often features locally sourced foods in season, and they do not charge an arm and a leg for this benefit. While I don't often want a cocktail, their creative concoctions always tempt me to try something new, and this visit did not disappoint. My only complaint was that one item we tried to order was out of stock, a small problem in the midst of great choices.
We visited NYAJs on a Monday evening. We had made a reservation and we were seated promptly when we arrived. The service we received was wonderful. Our server couldn't have been any more eager to please. One of us had the chicken caprese and the other had the Waldorf salad. Both were delicious. We ordered carrot cake to go, but it wasn't to our taste and we wouldn't order it again. As usual, we ate too much of Joes delicious bread.
We've been to Not Your Average Joe's many times and have never been disappointed. We went to the restaurant at a very busy time so the wait was a bit longer than usual but Jody (our waitress) kept us informed and we never felt ignored. This time we had pizza and asked to have it cooked well done. Jody made sure that was the way we got it. We both enjoyed our dinner.
NYAJ has really changed in less than 9 months. In the past server always asked if we had been there before; went out of his/her way to talk about menu; mixed the cheese, red pepper & oil bread dippings right in front of us. None of that happen this trip. In the past the bread has been heated but not this time. Usually a manager stops by to check on how everything is going but that didn't happen this time again. When we arrive the room was less than 25% full but the host seated our part of 4 right next to another party of 4. We asked to be moved to an open area. Later as the room filled up we noticed the tables seamed closer together that in the past. No 100% sure but it felt like it.
Love the bead and side kick of oil parmesan and red pepper. Perfect match for the delicious focaccia bread served right when you sit down at the table. I had the salad nicoise but the tuna was tasteless the rest of the salad was good. But what's the route was the Empire estate Riesling from the Finger Lake Region of upstate New York this wine is outstanding. I actually Googled it at the table and found that it is served by the top restaurants in the United States so if you are one lover go to Not Your Average Joe's and get the Empire Estates dry Riesling.
My husband and I dine frequently at Not Your Average Joe's in Hyannis, since we moved here 10 years ago. We have always had a good meal. Unfortunately on this last visit the meal wasn't up to the standards that we are used to. I had salmon and it was dry and overcooked. The asparagus my husband and I both had was well done and wilted. So we were a bit disappointed for the first time in our meal.
Surprised that Open Table wouldn't mention that it is in CAPE COD mall. But with its own exterior entrance and clearly not mall food court, it is a nice oasis. Sports Bar menu with some extra fillips like salmon and tacos. Niot a gastropub but experimenting. Sort of a cross between Chilis and a sports bar. Mains were in the 12$ to 18$ range. Food had some taste but you wouldn't go out of your way here for fine dining. Servers very nice.
