My wife and I recently visited this establishment after a work out at a nearby gym. We found the food very good, the cocktails well-made, and the service excellent. Our server gave us the attention and time that made the evening very nice. We will definitely return.

The wait was minimal for our table and our waitress was lovely . The food was delicious and it came out pretty quickly. I would highly recommend this restaurant to others for lunch and dinner.

My husband is from New England. We discovered the Bethesda location of this restaurant and probably dined there 5 times.

Gaithersburg: Nicer staff, nicer layout. We've now been to Gaithersburg twice and we won't go back to the Bethesda one.

Went with extended family for Dec 26 dinner. Waitress was new but service was fine. Roasted beet salad was great and a large portion - had I known I would have just gotten salad + soup. Enchiladas were good but not stellar. Most everyone liked their meal. Coat hook near table was appreciated.

I’ve been to other NYAJ’s locations and the food was excellent. I ordered the same thing here and it was very poor. The food was lukewarm when it arrived. In addition, you could tell the good had been frozen or reheated. The vegetables were chewy and flavorless. The meats/fish were also without much taste.

We won’t be back to this location.

Overall a very nice experience. The music was a bit loud so, even with a small party of 6, it was frequently difficult to hear the conversation all around. I loved my salad, but the person who ordered the fettucine with shrimp and mushrooms said it was too salty. She said that she often finds the food here salty, but I probably haven't eaten here enough to comment. Service and timings were good.

Overall, everything was fine. However, the server was way too persistent and aggressive with the upselling, to the point of annoyance. I got to the point where I wanted to tell her to stop.

I'm not sure if it was done on her own initiative or by management's, but it does make me not want to schedule another team luncheon there, as a result.

Our holiday tradition is dinner and wine exchange, and this year we chose Not Your Average Joes. Our server, Christian was most helpful with our coats and multitude of wine bottles, and was attentive without being annoying. We stayed quite a while after dinner to talk, and he was very amendable about that, which was nice. Our food was very good, and two of us enjoyed the gluten-free options. The fresh menu is something we always like about the restaurant.

Only reason I gave the food 4 stars was because our wine and drink glasses and also silverware were very dishwasher-spotty and a little "dirty", but outside of that we enjoyed a lovely evening and will certainly return!

Server was very personable. Party of four and everyone was pleased with their meal. HH drink specials we're coming confusing as to what mixed drinks were allowed. Near the end if dinner music got considerable loud we had a hard time hearing. Lighting was also very dim.

Love the food, but the service has deteriorated. Servers don't know who is doing what. Long wait to get check, even when the restaurant was not full. Some better training would help.

This restaurant has systemic problems. Every time we go we experience some kind of issue. They have perfected the apology and the remedy — an offer to take whatever had a problem off the bill. The manager comes over to apologize and make it right. But it’s a crutch. I would rather they get it right the first time and pay for my meal in full and avoid the manager drive-by remedy. The key is to not make the mistake in the first place. Tonight’s issue: they brought our appetizers at the same time as the main dishes. Not only was it annoying, but there was no room for everything on the table. We were sitting there hungry with no appetizers.

NYAJ is one of my favorite places to eat. Everything is great and there are no bad menu items. Service is always great. The thing that bothers me is when the guests and staff drag chairs across the noisy floor, setting my teeth on edge. A stafg member was moving tables and kept dragging chairs for nearly 10 minutes. Both my table mate and I were bothered as were the people at the next table. This particular night was cold and windy, so I wish staff had spent more time keeping the inside door closed because the wind and chill directed straight at those of us at tables rather than those in booths. One man at the table in front of us kept getting up to close the inside door.

I love eating here, but I was a little disappointed last night. The food seem to be more salty than usual. When I booked the reservation on open table, I told them a corner table and how it is my mom's birthday. They gave us a corner table, but did not do anything special for her birthday. The server provided excellence service as he kept refilling our drinks without us asking and split our (my mom and I) meal in the back instead of us doing it on the table. I would still go back, but I'm hoping the saltiness is only for last night and not for another visit.

Food is usually good. We did have two meals out of 6 that had issues this time (one was a steak that was not cooked properly and another was a pasta dish where the noodles were not cooked properly either). The concern I have is that the last few times we've been there the kitchen and bar has been very slow. We ordered a pizza for our 2 year old daughter and it took almost 30 minutes. Last time there was a long delay for her food too. Drinks took about 20 minutes this time for the first round.

Service was good overall though the delays make it much harder for the servers to be efficient and leads to customers getting frustrated as something the servers cannot control. The rating for Service is based on the kitchen/bar, without the food delays we are talking 3-4 stars for the servers
