Not Your Average Joe's Gaithersburg Ratings and Reviews
Went there on Valentine's Day so they were busy. I had reservations & were seated pretty close to schedule. Two guest were late but we were seated at our table anyway & could order. Had to switch tables after being served drinks & bread. Our waitress was very accommodating as we went in a different section. Each of us received a little snack gift all wrapped up & had red ribbon. Such a nice touch for such a busy evening. Could see the effort stuff made on Valentine's Day. Drinks & food very good.
We go to NYAJ a lot. We LOVE the Caribbean Buffalo Chicken Tenders so my husband decided to get the buffalo chicken pizza... But it was not good. They were kind enough to take it off our bill. We've had several good experiences here and a few not-so-good ones. Service is sometimes very slow with a lot of mix ups, but we still keep going back because we enjoy most of the food.
Despite reservations, had to wait 15 minutes at 6pm for our table. Took 30 minutes from ordering dinner to getting our food -- and the Valentine cocktail wasn't served until after dinner (so we weren't charged--but still...!!) Lovely server, but took too long for our food and table
My friend wanted to try the spaghetti squash bolognese dish she’d heard so much about. If you have movie or time-specific plans after dinner, factor in the wait. The restaurant was quite busy so we weren’t seated until about 20 minutes past our time. That wasn’t a big deal for us, though, as the waiting area was comfortable. The fresh bread with olive oil and Parmesan was addictive. That was a good thing because we got left behind for a bit because the waitress had a large table of 10+. She was apologetic and kind, but still not as attentive as we would have hoped (as in, forgot to take our entree order after we received our appetizers.)
Speaking of appetizers, don’t miss the nachos! If you’re looking for average California-style nachos, these aren’t the ones. Fresh bites of guacamole and cumin-spiced sour cream covered light, crunchy tortilla chips that were dripping with cheese. They’re worth a trip back for Happy Hour.
I wouldn’t judge the restaurant on that evening’s experience. In general, it seems like a wonderful restaurant with friendly servers. Be sure to factor in the popularity and add a few minutes to your designated dining time. Enjoy!
We were one of a few groups of dad's that took their daughters to dinner prior to the Brownies annual Father-Daughter Dance. This is our fourth year picking Not Your Average Joe's and we keep picking Joe's (and will again next year) because it is a great place for dads and daughters alike. The kids loved their meals, as did the dad's - plenty of clean plates.
The staff was AWESOME - really went out of their way to make the evening special for the girls (and dads).
First, there is an entire gluten free menu, which is amazing and rare! The food gets an extra star just for that. However, the gluten free bread starter was noticeably less abundant than the gluten bread starter, which sat on the edge of the table with our discarded appetizer plates for a good 20-30 minutes before wait staff cleared them. Our server was nice, but the place was surprisingly empty for a Friday night and service was still super slow. I suspect they cut some wait staff early.
I ordered a gluten free chicken sandwich, and my SO ordered a gluten free burger, both with a side of sauteed spinach. Burger was fine. Gluten free bread was great. Chicken was dry, and overall the sandwich was uninteresting and bland. The spinach was inedible, nothing but salt. Also, presentation of the food was seriously lacking. House cabernet was decent.
I've been here a few times before, and been happy enough with food & service. This was definitely the worst visit, so maybe they were having an off night.
Lunch with friends and my spouse. We love this place. One pizza, one salad with Mona lisa chicken, one salmon, and one linguine with shrimp. All delicious. Or server was busy but she remembered everything we asked fir like sugar for the iced tea, more bread. The noise level is great. We were in a booth and had no trouble hearing or being heard; at the same time there was enough noise to give the place energy. Can't say enough about the bread. We will all be back
My wife and I recently visited this establishment after a work out at a nearby gym. We found the food very good, the cocktails well-made, and the service excellent. Our server gave us the attention and time that made the evening very nice. We will definitely return.
Went with extended family for Dec 26 dinner. Waitress was new but service was fine. Roasted beet salad was great and a large portion - had I known I would have just gotten salad + soup. Enchiladas were good but not stellar. Most everyone liked their meal. Coat hook near table was appreciated.
I’ve been to other NYAJ’s locations and the food was excellent. I ordered the same thing here and it was very poor. The food was lukewarm when it arrived. In addition, you could tell the good had been frozen or reheated. The vegetables were chewy and flavorless. The meats/fish were also without much taste.
We won’t be back to this location.
Overall a very nice experience. The music was a bit loud so, even with a small party of 6, it was frequently difficult to hear the conversation all around. I loved my salad, but the person who ordered the fettucine with shrimp and mushrooms said it was too salty. She said that she often finds the food here salty, but I probably haven't eaten here enough to comment. Service and timings were good.
Overall, everything was fine. However, the server was way too persistent and aggressive with the upselling, to the point of annoyance. I got to the point where I wanted to tell her to stop.
I'm not sure if it was done on her own initiative or by management's, but it does make me not want to schedule another team luncheon there, as a result.
