Met our daughter here for lunch. We were first-time at this restaurant. We would definitely go back again--good food and good service.
I had never been and I will be back. Except for the noise, the food was wonderful and moderately priced. Our waitress was exceptional and very personable. Everything that she recommended turned out to be very good.
My wife and I have been to Not Your Average Joe's several times and the experience has always been good. Waitstaff are friendly and attentive, food is good with decent sized portions, ambience is a restaurant, what can I tell you. But it is a good time. One recommendation: Do call ahead or make a reservation through OpenTable. You can walk in, but when it gets busy, the wait time can be long. Best time to go? Afternoons when it's warm outside and sunny. Their outdoor area is a great place to sit, have a drink and relax.
We eat at NYAJ often, because the food and service is always very good. Their bread is the best.
We had a fabulous waitress. I enjoyed the food, but the chicken parmigiana was a little spicy for me. Otherwise, just wonderful!
We ordered off the Simply Grilled options. I ordered the chicken with roasted Brussels sprouts and mashed sweet potatoes and my wife ordered the salmon with sauteed spinach and regular mashed potatoes. Both dishes were very good. We asked for the gluten free take bread and that was warm and delicious as well.
Out server was delightful and did an all around excellent job.
I am impressed at the level of quality, healthiness, and creativity on the menu at this chain restaurant. We don't do a lot of retreats but we have cine back to NYAJ several times now.
Great food and service. The waitress was extremely attentive.
We sat down with no silverware. We placed an order for a "starter". We received the bread. We still had no napkins. We received the starter. Reminded the waitress we still had no silverware or napkins. Waited and waited and finally got the silverware and napkins after the starter got cold. It was to be served hot.
Have been to NYAJ many many many times. Never a bad experience. Great food, great service. This place is a keeper!
Our waitress was not happy to have our table. She never refilled our drinks. The on staff manager was not accommodating. My mother asked for mustard for her hamburger and he said this is a scratch kitchen and they don't have mustard. We found another waitress and asked if they had mustard and she responded of course and brought it out to us. One of the worst experience I ever had here. I use to go here when I lived in Maryland. I now live in VA. Virginia service is much better and professional. Avoid this place.
we needed a new seating arrangement and the staff was very helpful in taking care of us
service was excellent and even though the restaurant was very busy we weren't rushed
the food was great and very large portions
April was top notch and the food was excellent as always.
Menu offered great selection of options for everyone, strong focus to accommodate dietary needs, also promoted the use of local ingredients. Very accommodating and awesome Service.
We always go to NYAJ's for a treat if we have been working hard or if it's a special event. In this case, we were celebrating Spring and wanted to go out and have a great meal just the two of us. We got a very private booth, and our waiter was excellent, leaving us want for nothing. We usually order too much food, and the bread that they bring to the table before dinner doesn't help either, but it is indescribably good. Needless to say, this meal was also a lunch the next week.
I’ve done here before and I will come back
We had a table of nine, ages 2 to 60 year’s old and everyone had a great time! Our waitress VALERIE, was the absolute BEST, she made the afternoon perfect, everyone was raving about her!
one of our favorites -- always good. go there at least twice a month
Warm welcoming very nice staff.
Great for friends gathering or family dinner. Drinks are good and kids menu is diverse
We go to this Not Your Average Joe's once a month or so. It is a pretty reliable place with offerings that appeal to everyone in our family of six. They have some interesting menu items that make if a place you won't get quickly get sick of. We've experienced occasional service and food/beverage issues, but they've always been addressed quickly.
For this visit the food was pretty solid, but my dirty martini was waaaaay to dirty and oddly had no olives in it. I order dirty martinis (olive juice instead of vermouth) regularly and I have never had one that had so so so much olive juice. After a couple of sips, I sent it back and they removed it from my bill.
The shrimp and vegetable tempura really good, as were the nachos. The kids' burgers were well received and my other sons loved their marinated sirloin tips and seafood fettuccine. I had the spaghetti squash mushroom Bolognese, but didn't love it. The flavor was somewhat bland for a Bolognese and the mushrooms were really chewy.
The service was pretty good - not amazing, but solid.
The bread was amazing as always our server was great. I wish you had more vegetarian choices for my sisters besides a salad.
overall a terrible experience. from the minute we were checking in and encountered the very snarky manager, to the unbelievable long long wait for food, 45 to 60 minutes just for appetizers, the long long wait for cocktails, the forgotten acknowledgement of the birthday that i called about a week in advance, to the $250 tab that felt like money down the drain. i will never ever choose this restaurant again for a special occasion or anything for that matter. we were treated like we were unwanted guests.
Food was better than expected. Atmosphere was nice. Can’t wait to go back and try new dishes.
Wonderful scallops & husband loved the carrot cake. He had corned beef & cabbage- the beef was slightly tough but not fatty at all.
Victoria was our server and she was great! My boys loved her enough to leave her a hand written note
Typical Friday night outing at a local restaurant
We were celebrating my daughter’s 17th birthday and Valerie was our server. She was friendly and took really good cares of us, checking regularly to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. We were most impressed with how she handled our dessert order. After saying my daughter’s dessert was on the house, she provided options based on my daughter’s nut allergy and checked with the chef. Since my daughter's choices presented some risk of contamination, they did not want to take chances. Therefore, Valerie brought us a beautiful plate of assorted fresh fruits (not on menu) made just for my daughter who loves fruits! The fruit was delicious and we were most touched with the care and attention my daughter received. So glad we chose this restaurant to celebrate her birthday!
We had a larger group & a reservation and they seated us right Away, but the seating for parties 5 and larger are at tables that run down the middle of the restaurant which didn’t help with noise volume& we were the last table which meant we were closest to the kitchen where noise volume was louder and it was very busy with staff coming and going. Our waiter was very nice and seemed to be on top of things but it took a very long time to get our apps, then dinner, & even desserts. When we finally got our food the waiter did apologize and said there had been some issues with the kitchen (I might have been nice to be told that while we were wondering where our food was). I am not sure if our waiter was covering too many tables or not but we had to hunt her down a few times for items such as salt and pepper. One our meals came with Uber well done steak that was supposed to be med. to med rare. Also the sautéed spinach was very salty. As for the deserts everyone seemed to be pleased with the exception of sticky toffee pudding which was room temp to slightly warmed (not very warm to hot) the temp was such that the ice cream on top didn’t melt.
We have been to this restaurant many times but lately with each subsequent visit the, experience /food has gone down . We came tonite for my daughter birthday dinner and she had always really looked forward to going to Not Your Average Joes, but after this visit she may change her mind for next year
Love the hot gluten free bread! Love the gluten free menu!
Been to many locations, this restaurant never disappoints!!
I have gone several times and have always enjoyed this restaurant.
The meal was the best! Everyone was so nice from the time I walked in till when I left the restaurant. I will go back here the next time I am in Gaithersburg for work.
We went to celebrate my son's 24th birthday. Our reservation was for 7pm. We were seated in a booth for 4 immediately. Unfortunately, there were 2 very large parties in attendance, one of which was right next to our table. There was hardly any space between our booth and them, and there was a constant traffic jam beside our table between wait staff trying to deliver meals, people trying to get to their tables, and the people at the large party table trying to get comfortable. This went on throughout our meal. Extremely annoying.
As for the food, the pizza that my son and his girlfriend decided to split, was declared as good. My husband ordered the jumbalaya which looked very starchy, and glutenous, was deemed to be fair. I ordered chicken parmesan. The chicken was overbreaded, over-cooked, and tasteless. Very disappointing.
Our service was good considering how terribly crowded it was. We will not return, however, because the food just wasn't that good.
Excellent waitress. Very friendly. Good recommendations.
Food is normally very good. This time, “medium” hamburger was over-cooked on outside.
Do you or your child have food allergies? While they make quite the spectacle as soon as you sit about if the chef should be aware of any allergies they are actually completely unprepared if god forbid you say yes. First your waiter will be annoyed, then the “chef” or kitchen will be perpetually confused over basic questions like does this have any eggs in it? We ordered food only to be told 20 minutes later “oh, sorry that’s not gonna work...we COULD do this other thing but it’ll take a long time and it’s a little complicated”... 90% of restaurants have options for dairy and egg allergies, especially for children, this place does not.
Great local spot with huge selection, including gluten-free and dinner salad menu. Nicole, our server, is extraordinary. We return because of her.
When we first arrived, we were greeted quickly and are table was waiting for us. We sat near the front door were everybody was waiting to be seated, so the noise level was loud. We went with another couple and we had trouble hearing each other.
The server was amazing, she was very attentive and knew the menu well. My wife had the sirloin tips, which were tender and full of flavor. I had the BBQ meatloaf, which was a little small, but still tasty. My friends had a crusted chicken dish and they said they would get it again.
Since the food and service was good, I would give this place another try. Just asked to be seated elsewhere and away from the front door.
