I know servers' jobs are difficult, but our server was not having her best night. It was in the middle of the week in the middle of the winter so the restaurant was not busy. That said, she was not very attentive, e.g. I asked for another napkin but never got it, I asked for water and she never brought it, and she gave us an incorrect receipt. She just seemed harried and not too organized. We gave her a 20% tip because where you get seated and who your server is a just a matter of luck and it is possible she was being asked to do more than she could handle. Most importantly, the food was delicious though and that is why we chose the restaurant.
Delicious food and great service!
The gluten free mustard chcken was terrible. The dish looked so bad it should not have been sent out to the table. Their excuse was that they had to cut it up to put in the pan. It was also so overdone. If they can’t make it right it should be taken off the menu. No one there would take responsibility. They had so many excuses. I cook gluten free at home and my chicken cutlets doesn’t look like that!
Got there and it wasn’t busy. Still took a very long time for food to come. Server was great and took correct order. Felt bad for her. Kitchen did not cooperate. Allergy was one issue and if they followed directions was easy to solve. Sent 2 dishes back. Overcharged for salad that didn’t come with any meat.
Didn't like the burger or the fish ordered. Instead of olive oil/bread they serve corona oil/bread. Not too many people even on a Friday evening.
Food was great, but our server was very rude and ignored us.
Not Your Average Joe's is usually reliable and we are always happy with a few items on the menu. The tuna poke bowl was outstanding and has become one of my favorite dishes there. We always love the delicious bread and olive oil mixture to dip it into. My husband ordered a hamburger medium rare and it came very well done. The manager took it back and had it redone. It was still barely medium but my husband said it was fine because he didn't want to complain again. In the past, we've been comped that part of our meal, which is one reason we've always gone back. I understand they may not be doing that anymore because of cost. As we live very close, we'll be back, but it isn't our first go to.
We were sat at a table that wasn’t cleaned and it took a while to get someone to respond and clean it. Other tables had sanitized signs on them so I’m not sure why we were sat at a table that wasn’t. Our waiter seemed super new or just really distracted. Food was good. Everyone had masks but the kitchen staff had them around their chins, so really what’s the point. Probably won’t be going back for a while
Kaitlin was very attentive and a wonderful server.
I had a Cobb salad that was good off the regular menu . I was with 3 others who all have celiac disease and they all enjoyed their GF meal: GF rolls, chicken Parmesan, mac n cheese, and carrot cake. They were out of all their lemonade flavors, but we were all able to find another drink option.
Showed up for my reservation and the place was closed with a sign on the door to visit them in Bethesda instead. I would have expected a call, text or email to inform me of this and allow me to proactively make other plans since I had a reservation.
I rated this way because there was no option for "restaurant closed without notifying me."
Good and ambiance were disappointing. Server was pleasant.
Big improvement from the last time I came by. My next reservation for tomorrow is my third synagogue meeting at Joe’s in the past week. It’s a great spot to meet with friends and get work done. Thank you!
I’ve been coming here since it opened. This was my first time since the pandemic and I was slightly disappointed in the menu selection. The menu has shrunk in size and options but thankfully the food is just as delicious as ever. My only food complaint is I usually love the focaccia bread brought to the table but last night’s was cold and tasted stale. Might have just been the batch we got.
The sangria was great even if there was barely any alcohol in it
I waited at the host stand for 10 minutes before I was acknowledged. Bar out of our first two orders. There’s something about Joe’s during the pandemic; it just hasn’t figured it out yet…closing early, staff levels, bar stock. Just hasn’t made the pivots necessary.
I loved NYAJ and hadn't been in over a year. I was surprised at the limited menu. I went there hungry and the only thing that was good was the bread and olive oil dip. I ordered the cheese steak egg rolls and was so disappointed. I took someone there for the first time and had to apologize for the poor choice.
Ordered a Caesar salad. The lettuce was wilted and the croutons were stale.
We have enjoyed many meals at NYAJ Gaithersburg. Unfortunately, lately things are not as good as in the past. The server was friendly, but he took a long time between visits to our table. The menu has gotten a lot smaller. Some of our favorite items are no longer offered. Like the haddock and the bolognese. We don't eat meat poultry or shellfish, so our choices are getting very limited, which will make our visits less frequent.
We had a large group and Al was very accommodating with our seating arrangements outside. Our server was great, the food was on time and delicious, and we look forward to returning for our next group outing!
Evan did a great job considering they appeared to be underemployed with wait staff. Compliments to the Chef and Kitchen. All 4 meals were great. evan listened to our recommendation of a water pitcher and hopefully mgmt will add these to all tables to assist the already over worked.
They were understaffed like most restaurants these days. But still the staff were very attentive, and polite. The food was good and we didn’t have to wait long for anything (to be seated, for drinks, for food etc.). It wasn’t too loud or crowded, everyone was seated an appropriate distance apart inside that if felt safe.
Love the outside seating. Great service and good , varied menu. Pleasant atmosphere.. will be back!
I'm so happy that NYAJ has reopened. They have always had excellent food and service. They continue in that tradition. I noticed that the menu is smaller than before, but that actually makes it easier to decide.
Great place for good food. However the service seemed a bit slow for a bit so crowded place. I'll be back.
No ice tea until the meal was done and then no to go cup was available and I was still charged. Bad business.
Food was very tasty, prepared quickly. But…We ordered a bottle of wine, which came with wet and fingerprint marked glasses. When this was pointed out to the waitress she took the bottle and the glasses back and brought an opened bottle and clean glasses. poured two an left again. When we finished our meals we sat for a long time with dirty plates, no one took them away and no one came to see if we wanted desert or our check. We had not seen our waitress for almost an hour so After watching the manager walk by us multiple times, we asked for our check. He remarked that he was sorry that we had been ignored and offered to take one of our meals off.
Service was excellent. Appetizers and drinks were very good. Food overall was good but some meals just didn’t have much taste.
I went to Joe's with a friend. We each ordered Joe's salad with a different topping. My friend ordered the salad with chicken, while I ordered mine with salmon. They were delicious. Our waiter was attentive and caring. Thank you!
The outdoor table was sticky when we were seated. The waitress barely came back to check on us, and the food was very mediocre.
Very slow service. When manager came over we told him it was extremely slow and he said “oh the kitchen is catching up now”. What is that supposed to mean? Food was good and our waiter was attentive but the total dining experience was ruined because it took forever for food to arrive. By the way, the restaurant was not crowded.
The server was totally inept. The manager tried to accommodate but there was only so much she could do. We are going to Seasons 52 next time.
Everything was perfect from the minute we entered the restaurant until we left. Wait staff was great. Food delicious. Seating was nicely distanced.
Our server Cynthia our as amazing. She really did a good job handling our guests who had gluten allergies. She brought them special bread and assured us the food was handled separately.
Many restaurants are trying to regroup with new kitchen staff, new servers and new managers. This place is a favorite and we are all hoping they can get back to where they once were at the top of our dining choices. Last night--just so-so. Servers were energetic, just not knowledgeable. Two of the five people in our party ordered salads with their dinners. One got salad served as the same time as dinner was served. The other got his salad after all of the dinners were already served. How about: salad comes out before dinner. Most of the food was okay to pretty good. One dinner--chicken parm--not the best. We will be back. We know the new manager is working hard to get the place back to where he knows it needs to be.
It was very slow for lunch on a Sunday, but the food was still good. I miss the days of fresh bread and brunch on Sundays and hope things will continue to improve so the fun menu can return!
In the past, We have generally had very good experiences with not your average Joe. However the meal we had tonight was very substandard. Two of us ordered steak tips medium rare and they were medium to medium well done. The meat was tough and chewy. I had the rice pilaf which actually had no taste whatsoever.
Again, this seems to be an aberration based on our past experiences with the restaurant. I hope it was just an off night.
I used to love the food here because they had an extensive Gluten free menu and the food was good. Yesterday the food was mediocre, they have one GF starter, just one, it is good but it would be nice to have a choice of two maybe?
The bread used to be very good with the dipping, not anymore. My food was just mediocre as a side they gave me coleslaw on the smallest container you can imagine, it was the container they use for sauces, one fork full and it was empty.
I am not going back, i was disappointed. My husband had fish and chips, it was mediocre too in his opinion.
This was my first time at Not Your Average Joes and probably the last. The wait staff didn't seem to really want to engage with our table. Speaking of which, the table was permanently bent. It was in a booth and was drooping downwards. So all of our drinks had to stay on napkins or they would slide off the table. Cool for a magic trick, not cool for a date night. Also, about that table - it was wet from cleaning but there was something caked on the table that flaked off. My girlfriend felt uncomfortable eating there because she felt the whole place was dirty since the table was wet from whoever "cleaned" it and missed a rather large spot of what looked like burnt pizza crust that had soaked into the table.
Outside of that, the food didn't sit well with my stomach and I had to run to the bathroom about 4 times in 3 hours after our meal. Which is surprising since the portions of my meal left me hungry for more food. Also the food we had ordered was really salty. Also, I ordered the same cocktail twice (Maple Old Fashioned) and got 2 entirely different looking drinks.
As one would think, it was pretty hard to get close to my girlfriend under these conditions...except for the fact the AC was cranked up. I am someone who loves cold weather and regularly blast the AC on cold settings on a regular basis. So when I feel a room is comfortable it normally means several other people are wearing jackets/hoodies. It was cold in this restaurant.
And when we got the bill and found 3 drinks, 2 entrees, and 1 salad was 100 bucks and we were still hungry, cold, and grossed out by the restaurant; we wondered why was the bill so high.
