Not Your Average Joe's Arlington Ratings and Reviews
Went for lunch to celebrate my granddaughter's birthday and the staff could not have been more welcoming! Our waitress Zoe was especially wonderful and everyone there had left messages and signed a card for my granddaughter, who was thrilled. Several of them brought out her complimentary dessert and sang to her. Good food as well. All in all, a memorable experience. Now we all want to come back here for our birthdays!
On a previous visit a week before, two of us shared two appetizers, chic.pot stickers & crab cakes. Both were disappointing and unappetizing. We would not order them again or recommend them. Other than that the food is generally very dependable with a good selection
NYAJ Arlington again disappoints. We sat at a high-top in the bar area, but the clueless bartender ignored us. After 25 mins I got her attention and she acted confused as to why no one was waiting on us. We ordered several "Happy Hour" half-priced appetizers and a beer. After another 20 minutes or so, we finally got apps, but were never offered the focaccia NYAJs if known for. The apps were good, but the tuna wontons were not as good as ones I've had at other NYAJ's - both smaller and not enough wasabi sauce. Prices have gone up, so half-priced apps are a good deal, but not the amazing deal they used to be. We ordered the updated "Rosemary Skewered Sea Scallops" for dinner. At $25, its good that you now get 9 or 10 scallops. However, these were the SMALLEST SEA SCALLOPS I've every been served.(Scallops were much bigger at the NYAJ Waltham location!) They even skimped on the rosemary; providing two small spring ends instead of a full skewer as described. Again we were NOT OFFERED BREAD. This was a real lack of service from the bartender. Don't know if she's new or just inattentive. We tipped on the full price of everything but really should not have!! I continue to prefer the Not Your Average Joe's Waltham or even the Watertown location. We miss the NYAJ's Medford location!
NYAJ is a comfortable, consistent place for a casual family dinner. We often see local friends there. The bread and dip at the table are amazing, better than competitors. Meals are always delicious, flavorful. At times it can be noisy because of the bar & TV, but most of the time that's not been a problem.
Family visiting and needed late night meal. Smooth reservations, timely seating, short reasonable wit for food, upbeat friendly staff, creative delicious food with special touches, wide variety of food and wine offerings. Something for EVERY taste and diet. Kudos to your restaurant.
This was a going-away lunch for a friend. The food was good, and served promptly. What really impressed me was the service. Of the seven of us, I arrived 20 minutes late, and one of the guests had gotten up and left for about 20 minutes. Also, the restaurant was full and fairly noisy. Nevertheless, everything was taken care of. Orders were taken quickly, the food arrived promptly, and everyone got what they ordered with no mistakes! Incredibly, the waitress maintained a cheerful attitude the whole time, despite the confusion.
We were meeting family we had not seen in awhile and this was a convenient mid-way location for both parties. NYAJ is one of the few restaurants we go to because they are willing to accommodate special requests and because of their new "Simply Grilled" options that provide a tasty protein without added sodium or fat.
This would not be my preferred location only because of the distance to my home, which is closer to the Peabody location.
This visit was extremely rushed. We hadn't even sat down and they had they were bringing the bread to the table. We hadn't even finished our appetizer when they brought our dinner. I would prefer finishing the appetizer before eating my dinner. Next time I will wait to order my dinner so that it does not come at the same time.
We always enjoy NYAJ's in the Massachusetts/RI area. The complimentary bread and garlic/cheese dipping oil is incredible. The menu is interesting with unusual ingredient combinations and seasonal options. The Ahi Tuna won ton appetizer makes a great meal! And is half price during happy hour. We have had season selections that were amazing. Check them out.
They offer a dynamic, eclectic menu of delicious foods. They draw from a variety of ethnic influences. My go to dishes are the enchiladas and salmon. Last time I had the gouda infused meatloaf and it was delicious. The Nacho Average Nachos were surprisingly delicious.
The Fruit de Mar was MUCH TOO SALTY!!! The gluten free pasta was nice, not over cooked, the seafood was tasty but the broth was much too SALTY. Would have been nice if there were more spinach and tomato. The manager did take the entree off the bill for me. The Raspberry Mojito was very good!
We shared the chicken dumpling appetizer and the ahi tuna dinner entree. The dumplings were delicious but for us the ginger/soy sauce was overly pungent, and we like spicy food. The ahi tuna was cooked to our specs, the accompanying potatoes were excellent but the asparagus were apparently grilled for only a few seconds because they were raw. Friendly and efficient service. This is one of our neighborhood go-to restaurants, and we'll always return, but this time it was a little disappointing.
I'll start of by saying that we always enjoy coming to this location where we are always greeted with a smile b y lovely manager Lauren. This time we brought friends from out of state who loved everything - the food, the atmosphere and especially the AMAZING service provided by our server Nick. He reminded me of a server who used to work in Medford for many years before they closed that location. I wish I could remember his name but he was older with a shaved head and goatee.
Anyway, we will be back and we will definitely ask for Nick as our server.
