Not Your Average Joe's Arlington Ratings and Reviews
Joe's in Arlington is always very predictable. The food is reasonably priced and very good. The kitchen seems to get backed up occasionally but I take that as a sign that the meals are not pre-made and rather are prepared on the spot. My wife and I are there every other week.
Your special features check list don't seem to describe the things that bring us back to Not Your Average Joe's month after month, year after year. Their food is fresh, varied and excellent. They will tailor a menu item anyway you want. Great for people with allergies or special diet requirements.
The whole staff, management, wait staff and cooks just want you to enjoy your time there.
We eat out a lot. NyAJ is one of our two favorite restaurants. (the other is Tex-Mex so there is really no comparison.) We know when the crowds are there so we usually avoid them. However this time we wanted to be there at 7:00 on a Friday night. Open table worked perfectly.
although we made reservations we ended up waiting almost 40 minutes.. the wait area is tiny and crowded. My husband had to send the mussels back to be cooked more... average...
last time we were there it was much better food.. although that was several months ago...
Having avoided a "chain type" restaurant in favor of the several other excellent restaurants in our town, this was our first visit to NYAJ Arlington. Our mistake. We rate this a "neighborhood gem" because- without pretension- this restaurant provides a diverse menu of very well prepared food efficiently served (despite a visit during prime-time on a Friday evening) by pleasant, willing-to-please, and knowledgeable staff. The wine list is full of "solid" choices at VERY reasonable prices. In fact, the total amount for our meal stunned us: we couldn't believe that we had had such a satisfying dinner and a bottle of wine for such a reasonable amount. We rate our total experience "outstanding" because of this "bang for the buck" aspect.
We never tire of going to Not Your Average Joe's. Love the rich and playful colors of the room. Prices are SO reasonable for heaps of excellent and interesting food. My husband and I can share one entre and still take home leftovers. The 1/2 price appetizer special (before 6pm on weeknights) is especially amazing. Even though it is always crowded, the noise level is fine for me -- and I'm very sensitive to noise. Wait staff are always friendly, although sometimes terribly busy. If you're in a hurry you would need to tell them.
Making our reservation on Open Table saved the night as diners arriving when we did had a 30-35 minute wait time and the waiting area was packed. New arrivals had to choose between being packed in like sardines or waiting out in the cold. Having reservations, we were seated quickly. The waitress was friendly, informative and attentive.. The food was cooked exactly as advertised and attractively plated. Joe's take on meatloaf was both savory and beautifully presented, elevating this comfort food to new grandeur. The beer list isn't exceptionally long but includes some very good local craft beers. Only negatives: the tables were extremely close together and 2-top booths a little small for two dinner plates, glasses and bread plates/basket.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. We took a chance and went on Vaentine's Day, knowing it would be busy. What we didn't count on was how long it would take us to find parking due to the snow. So we were a bit late for our reservation, which put us at the end of the line for our time slot--and they were already behind schedule. We finally got a table, not our usual booth. Things were very hectic around us and we had to wait longer than usual to be served. Probably won't go in Valnetines' Day again. But we will go back to the restaurant, of course.
I don't know why I put in a "reservation" they just put my name in the queue once I got there. Still got to wait for 30 minutes with my date.
Other than that, this is just one of your average Not your Average Joe's; addicting bread/oil combo and average entrees.
We are disappointed at having so many mixed experiences at this neighborhood Joe's over the past year, especially since it has always been our go-to neighborhood restaurant. The meatloaf was good this time, but the cranberry-teryaki chicken (a Joe's standard)was dry and overcooked. I asked for more sauce to make it moister, and it arrived ice cold and unusable. The creme brulee cheesecake came out burnt and inedible, and although it was replaced, we left wondering if anyone at all is paying attention to quality control in Joe's kitchen. The service was good as usual.
We had an excellent dinner at Not Your Average Joe's the other night. I noticed that although the restaurant was full and everyone was talking, what looked like the cork ceiling caught a lot of the noise so that my husband and I could sit and talk and hear each other. The food is always good, and we almost always take home something. We do consider the restaurant a local gem.
My wife and I go to Joe's in Arlington at least once a month. The food is very good and reasonably priced and the service is always quite good. The menu is extensive enough that you call always find something to your taste. It's a very predictable restaurant
we have been to this location on many occassions, as we live in Arlington. The only complaint we ever have is that it is super crowded in the evenings on the weekends. So, we try to go early, and that works out well. This time we ordered the boneless chicken appetizers, the flounder florentine (monthly special), and a waldorf salad with chicken. I had a jack and ginger cocktail, my wife had a blueberry pomegranate margarita. The food was excellent, service fast.
Even though we had reservations, we still waited 30 minutes for a table for three. We specifically came for the gluten-free menu, but the waiter seemed a bit unsure of how to deal with this. We waited another 15-20 minutes for the gluten-free bread, then had to ask for the oil/cheese dip (and blend it ourselves) and silverware/napkins. The food in general was good, but the gluten-free baked haddock was bland (no sauce or seasonings) with a side of overcooked summer vegetables (in January). We had high hopes for this restaurant becoming our default for gluten-free dining, but will look elsewhere.
We made a reservation through OpenTable for 6:15 on a Saturday and arrived at about 6:10. At 6:45, we had not been seated. We were told that it would be at least 10-20 minutes more and there were a number of parties in front of us waiting to be seated. We have generally enjoyed our previous experiences at Not Your Average Joe's. This was horrible and we had to leave and eat elsewhere.
NYAJ's has something for everyone on their menu. They also have an extensive gluten-free menu. What's more, they prepare a special roll to be dunked in their olive oil mixture so the GF person at the table is not left out of their amazing pre-meal bread experience. I've always had reliably good food and good service at NYAJ's regardless of the location.
Had lunch here with friends and had the thai chicken noodle salad. It was just okay--the chicken a little overcooked, the mango chunks underripe, the noodles bland. My friends ordered traditional Joe's entrees: mustard chicken breast, bluecheeseburger, house salad and buffalo caribbean chicken tenders, and seemed much happier with their meals. I'm thinking I should stick to the old standards too... The peanut butter thing (ice cream dessert) we shared was served frozen solid and we had to track down our waiter to get forks, which did help a little.
