Not Your Average Joe's Acton Ratings and Reviews
The Herb Crusted Haddock was very good - always dependable. FF’s were soggy, Herb Carrots didn’t seem fully cooked and were tasteless – won’t order those again. The lemon tart was just average – still miss the Molten Chocolate Cake with sauce and berries. Otherwise good family restaurant.
We've dined at this restaurant many times and always had a delicious meal. This time both of us had the same dish, the mustard crusted chicken, and it was delicious. I am very disappointed that you have discontinued the onion strings as a side dish. Big mistake.
Services was so slow and the restaurant was not full. Waitress never offered refills. Food had clearly sat under heating lamps for many minutes before it came out. Chicken was dry. Waitress didn't even come back for the payment, thank goodness we had enough cash so we could pay and leave.
Very disappointed. For reservation, i asked about celebrating birthday for my friend and why we chose this location was convenience. The restaurant forgot about the birthday celebration which is very unfortunate. The sirloin tips were to be cooked medium and instead were burnt and lacked flavor. The rice pilaf isn’t what it is and instead was a hard clump of yellow rice. Not pleased and won’t go here again. There would be no reason for me to refer this restaurant.
have been long time patron since opening. Live and work nearby. Last few months showed decline in service, food and takeout ( which we used t do a lot) Last Holiday lunch with my office staff was not that great. Cold air was blowing at us ( it is winter) New manager ( I have not seen him before) was not pleasant and used condescendent tone . Waitress disappeared all together although it was late lunch hour by then and the place got empty. We chased her down finally after long wait and she just immediately brought out our check without us requesting it and did not offer coffee,/dessert at all.
When we came for dinner, our waitress wouldn't let me finish a sentence when trying to order our drinks. Then gave me a hard time about not eating my whole dinner when both my husband and I felt off about the meal. It sent my husband straight to the bathroom and she didn't really care that we were there until it came time to pay the bill in which she loomed to see what we would tip. It was VERY uncomfortable. I don't know if I'd be back again. When you go to dinner, you expect friendly service, not to be treated like we weren't there. Even dodged us when we looked right at her and when she asked if we needed anything, she just walked away as we were trying to let her know what we needed. We ordered another drink that never came to the table. It was just very uncomfortable as we have been there before with no issue whatsoever. We had to have a manager track her down so we could pay our bill.
Food was quite good (as usual!), though one of the dishes was a bit salty for us. Our server was friendly, quick to get answers to our questions if he didn't know, and checked on us periodically. The sangria had some added spices that gave it a nice twist for winter. The atmosphere was lively, but not annoyingly loud. It was a nice night out for a casual meal.
What a surprise to find such a quiet dining spot on Sunday afternoon. Between morning church service and afternoon concert, this was a perfectly relaxing break. Staff attentive without being too close at hand. Sandwiches -- Tuscan Grilled Chicken and Mustard-crusted Chicken BLT -- were delicious! Our unsweetened iced tea neverending. Thank you
It was a busy Saturday night and there were people waiting for tables in the bar, in the take-out area and outside when we arrived however we had a reservation and got there right on time; our table was ready and they honored my request for a booth no problem. Our waiter had two large tables in addition to ours and he handled it all wonderfully. With such a crowd and a busy take-out business to boot I expected to have to wait a bit for our entrees however they arrived rather quickly: I was very impressed. NYAJ's will always happily leave out or add any ingredients you want, as long as they have them, and they made my 'special' request chicken perfectly the first time. It certainly isn't fancy and it can get quite loud so it may not be best for a date but if you want a consistently good meal - even if you are like me and a very picky eater, I am happy to recommend Joe's.
This place was recommended by our hostess at a local B&B, and we were not disappointed!
My wife and I both ordered one of their specials, which was the Chicken Parmesan; It was fresh and very good (there was so much food on the plate that we could have shared)!
The CParm came with rigatoni pasta, and we ordered an additional side of grilled asparagus.
We also had a dinner salad before the meal which was also very good!
Would definitely eat here again if we are back in the area (from Houston, TX).
Our first visit and a wonderful surprise. Although the food was a tiny bit pricey for a casual eating place, it was well worth the extra money. The service was excellent, prompt, caring, but not intrusive. They dealt with our party of 7 adults and 2 children with aplomb. Highly recommend the frutti di mare, the clam sauce was flavorful and not heavy. Lots of other choices to satisfy the varied crowd. Most of them had a unique touch that separates this restaurant from the competition and made the extra dollar or two per main course irrelevant, and in the end the total bill was not "that much" extra. We will be back often when we are in the area.
Our food was way below the standard we are used to at this restaurant. Our server brought our 2 appetizers and my husband's entree all at once, and his dinner was only warm. We waited, and finally asked for my entree which it turned out the server forgot to put in. So we left without it.
