Not Your Average Joe's Acton Ratings and Reviews
What a surprise to find such a quiet dining spot on Sunday afternoon. Between morning church service and afternoon concert, this was a perfectly relaxing break. Staff attentive without being too close at hand. Sandwiches -- Tuscan Grilled Chicken and Mustard-crusted Chicken BLT -- were delicious! Our unsweetened iced tea neverending. Thank you
It was a busy Saturday night and there were people waiting for tables in the bar, in the take-out area and outside when we arrived however we had a reservation and got there right on time; our table was ready and they honored my request for a booth no problem. Our waiter had two large tables in addition to ours and he handled it all wonderfully. With such a crowd and a busy take-out business to boot I expected to have to wait a bit for our entrees however they arrived rather quickly: I was very impressed. NYAJ's will always happily leave out or add any ingredients you want, as long as they have them, and they made my 'special' request chicken perfectly the first time. It certainly isn't fancy and it can get quite loud so it may not be best for a date but if you want a consistently good meal - even if you are like me and a very picky eater, I am happy to recommend Joe's.
This place was recommended by our hostess at a local B&B, and we were not disappointed!
My wife and I both ordered one of their specials, which was the Chicken Parmesan; It was fresh and very good (there was so much food on the plate that we could have shared)!
The CParm came with rigatoni pasta, and we ordered an additional side of grilled asparagus.
We also had a dinner salad before the meal which was also very good!
Would definitely eat here again if we are back in the area (from Houston, TX).
Our first visit and a wonderful surprise. Although the food was a tiny bit pricey for a casual eating place, it was well worth the extra money. The service was excellent, prompt, caring, but not intrusive. They dealt with our party of 7 adults and 2 children with aplomb. Highly recommend the frutti di mare, the clam sauce was flavorful and not heavy. Lots of other choices to satisfy the varied crowd. Most of them had a unique touch that separates this restaurant from the competition and made the extra dollar or two per main course irrelevant, and in the end the total bill was not "that much" extra. We will be back often when we are in the area.
Our food was way below the standard we are used to at this restaurant. Our server brought our 2 appetizers and my husband's entree all at once, and his dinner was only warm. We waited, and finally asked for my entree which it turned out the server forgot to put in. So we left without it.
Two special friends joined me for girls' lunch out today -- it was wonderful to spend a leisurely Saturday midday with them in the perfect setting. NYAJ's is their special request, and our server and meal were wonderful. Kate had the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich, Peggy had the Cobb Salad with chicken and I had the Waldorf salad. Plenty of delicious focaccia, beverages, and best of all one Peanut Butter Thing split 3-ways for dessert. That Peanut Butter Thing is totally sinful. YUM!
We do this about 3 times a year, and thanks to NYAJ it's always special.
I liked the taco night idea but the chicken tacos weren't great. The sauce poured all over them tasted like BBQ sauce. My friend a shrimp taco and a chicken taco and she agreed the chicken taco wasn't great but the shrimp taco was very good. Shrimp taco had something that looked like a cilantro dressing. Hoping to get there next week for the last taco night. Why not extend the offering?!
I appreciate NYAJs for what it is. Good food, good service, good value and consistent (at least for the 3 locations I've visited). Good variety in the menu from pizza to chicken Oscar and which seasonal updates keep the menu choices fresh. I was in for the last day of the Lobster Roll special and received and ample tasty portion. Also a pleasant surprise was the inclusion of several local beers
Not your average Joe's is our local sit down casual dining restaurant where we often go when we want to eat out (versus do take out) have a glass of wine, and chat. It is exactly what it needs to be: convenient, reasonably priced, and predictable. I had the haddock, which was good, my wife had a vegetarian dish which she liked equally well. We enjoyed each others company, had uninterrupted time to chat, and lingered as long as we wished, without wondering what happened to the meal and server. It is exactly what it tries to be, which is exactly what we wanted.
This was to have been a special treat for a good friend who had done a special favor for me.
Her meal was really someone else's meal, and, when her meal was substituted, it was burned.
I ordered the featured golden crisped buttermilk fried chicken, which was delivered really over-down and half-black. After scraping back the black the meat was good, but most pieces had been hacked up and unidentifiable. I spotted the drumstick, though, which had been greatly mangled and the thigh bone broken through. The sweet potato salad can only be described as "strange". The garlic potatoes were good.
The watermelon sangria was very good and enjoyed by both my friend and me. We did not stay for dessert, understandably.
