Nostrana—literally 'ours' —invokes local. Simple food from honest ingredients. Pure. Regional. Italian.

Opened in 2005, Nostrana is Chef/Owner Cathy Whims' love letter to Italy. This is a restaurant built on relationships: with our amazing farmers and purveyors, our dedicated staff, and of course with you, our guest.

We hope to offer something timeless and authentic in a beautiful space, the regional specialties of Italy deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest. We strive to be better every day.

I arrived slightly before my business associates and it was absolutely freezing inside. Granted, Snow was falling and the temps were low outside, but it was uncomfortable. After that small shortcoming, I got the daily Negroni that was just fantastic. Obviously, I had another before the night was over.
When the rest of my party joined me, we dove into appetizers, salads and entrees. Everyone was ecstatic with the flavor and presentation. To finish it off, desert was off the charts. Add to that, our service was spot on the entire time and I couldn’t have asked for better. Bottom line, successful business dinner with all four of us looking forward to coming back.

I visit Nostrana about once a month. The menu is always terrific, some new items, some reliable favorites. Nostrana is my go-to restaurant for so many reasons. Thank you!

Butternut squash soup was excellent. Service was great. Extensive wine selection. Butterscotch pudding with sea salt was an amazing dessert choice.

Went there for date night on Valentine's Day. Our reservation was early, half the tables were still not occupied, but service was still scattered and inconsistent. We never had a consistent waiter the entire visit - random people checking on us, in a rushed way, sort of when the mood hit. Some host and wait staff were snooty - like, WHY?? Flank steak special was bland, sort of flavorless. Lots of kids - not someplace we would ever return for a date night.

A visit to Nostrana is always a rewarding experience. This most recent visit was on Valentines Day for lunch. While the food was really good as usual, service was quite slow due to the large dining crowd.

Arrived 20 minutes early to our reservation and the host was charming and got us cocktails while we waited. Antipasti di mare was an amazing way to start while we considered dinner. We ended up getting the seared trout and the stuffed pork chop so we could share bites. Both were wonderful with their side dishes being stars in their own right. Dessert we did a Meyer lemon cheesecake and butterscotch budino, both being delectable.

We ate way too much but it was all wonderful.

We had reservations for a group of 10, mostly out of town visitors in town for a meeting. Nostrana worked out great and the service and food were excellent. Although the wine list is extensive and what we had was terrific, it would have been nice to have some wines at a lower price point.

Great service. The radicchio salad was not as good as usual, too much vinegar & they forgot the parm.
My tagliana steak was perfectly cooked but came cold.

The baked apple crisp was perfection !!!

My husband and I always comment when we have just eaten at Nostrana that we have never had a dull evening. The food is superb and the wine list is always full of interesting and delicious finds. The service is excellent and respectful. Portland is so lucky to have Cathy Whims' Nostrana .

Server attitude, not so great. Obvious she didn't want to be working on Friday night. Entrees arrived 20 minutes after two appetizers. Half the entrees were lukewarm. If you reserve with five people it's likely you'll be crammed into square table made for four. Too many very good restaurants in Portland to go here again any time soon.

Drinks and food were prepared and brought out extremely quickly. We were pleasantly surprised at the overall efficiency from being seated to leaving the restaurant. We were surprised by the rooster candle for our friends birthday. If only we could have kept it ...

Nostrana was fantastic. The staff was kind and helpful, the food was phenomenal and the wine was delicious. It was easy to make a reservation and perfect for a business dinner.
