Good and tasty
Duh! Most favorite, consistently awesome, wonderful service, never let you down restaurant ever!!!
Love this place only downside is that there was a screaming baby next to us that made our meal almost unbearable.
Good food. My friend liked the fettucini and I liked the pizza. Service was very attentive. A little spendy for lunch though.
Never had a meal at Nostrana that wasn’t excellent.
energetic is no way to describe noise, difficult to carry on a conversation
Amazing food, amazing everything
The food is excellent especially for the money, there's no question here. At this level of accomplishment one could expect that - it is the reason I chose to have my birthday dinner here. What's surprising is, for this restaurant of national caliber food excellence, that the front of the house could be so simply remiss on such a simple basic: heating. Granted, it was a cold night but there is such a thing as heating and duel pane windows in our modern world. I was seated at a two-top, all of which were along the window side of the restaurant. The whole room was somewhat cool but there was a draft along those windows - all those tables were cold as evidenced by most people still wearing their coats and jackets along those tables. When asked to be reseated, the staff was responsive and very nice but there were no other option for two-tops but along those windows. I couldn't take my heavy jacket off and I still froze due to the breeze on my legs. it's sad when you have to use your napkin as a lap blanket.
The management knows they have this problem as they have one small space heater they place at a complaining table. Certainly not enough for one whole side of the restaurant. There was no explanation of a mechanical problem with the heat that night or in general, they just leave their customers to live with the fact they skimp on providing an adequately heated restaurant. I certainly didn't expect that from one of Portland's best restaurants.
If you want to reserve a two-top beware that you might as well be dining in the walk-in refrigerator...
Suggestion for the management: since the kitchen is part of the main dining area, check make-up air supply for the kitchen hoods - it should be fan driven to meet or exceed the the amount of air that being pulled out by the hoods. If not, the room is in a negative pressure condition. This explains the mass of cold air that rushes in the front door when opened - the double door interlock won't fix that...
Very noisy, hard to carry on a conversation. Also very cold needed to keep.my coat on. Service was very good, food was mediocre. Dessert was excellent.
Fantastic service and the food was delish!
Our waitress had her mind somewhere else or doesn’t know how to be one I don’t know which. In summary and her service was characterized by lack of attention or interest in the customers dining experience. Specifically she did notCheck on how the food was until we were about 20% finished with the meal. The problem was the overnight cooked pork was rather bland, lacked any noticeable seasoning and so I really needed some salt. When we asked for the check she brought it and left it on the table very quickly took off out of sight, the problem was there was no pen to sign it with. My wife found a pen in her purse and I signaled the waitress when she came back again to take the check. Problem is she went back the other direction away from the pay station and chatted with some people at another table and then eventually went over to ring up the check. I look to see if she had a lamp or some other impairment that would explain her approach to Service being primarily focused on ensuring she took the fewest number of steps but I couldn’t detect any. Btw when we had arrived the hostess was on the phone with someone and working on the computer apparently taking a complicated reservation which took 3 to 5 minutes and at no point did she acknowledge our presence even though we were standing directly in front of her and she was faced in our direction. Another employee that approached me check in station ignored us. We had never been there so I use the time just to look laround and admire the surroundings which are quite nice if I had already seen the place I would’ve been irritated by the lack of professionalism by the hostessThe Nostrano salad was really good, mashed potatoes were nice and the red cabbage sauerkraut was interesting. The people who brought the food were from the kitchen staff and they were prompt and the food was served hot The waitress name started with a JOnly that her whole name in case she was experiencing some personal loss and was unable to do her work
Food and drink were excellent. Service was great. Its a little noisy but still a great restaurant.
Very good and deserves the favorable coverage it gets in local and national media. Not cheap and it's hard to imagine going there outside of special occasions. Perhaps some day when I win the lottery.
Delicious food, great service, quiet enough to have a conversation —sadly this is rare in Portland—but wine prices are sky high. The least expensive red bottle was $66. By the glass $15. This will have to be a special occasion choice.
Always excellent food and service.
Just love the restaurant.
Service, food and atmosphere is just wonderful.
My fiance and I love it so much it is the restaurant he picked to propose.
Delicious food and great service!
We had the best time at Nostrana again. We probably ate too much but it was very worth it! Such incredible food here everytime!
Very dark in the restaurant but always consistently high quality food
Perfect service, food and overall experience. We went elsewhere for dessert and wished we hadn't left!
It was wonderful
We shared a long, late lunch with cousins we had not seen in years. Service was quick, helpful but nonintrusive. The salad was everyone’s favorite but the trout was perfect, and the gnocchi thoroughly enjoyed, and the wines tasty. We appreciated being allowed to linger since things were slower. A lovely, memorable lunch for us all. Thank you!
We really enjoyed our NYE dinner. Loved the menu, everything was delicious. The ambiance was perfect, low light, classy, cozy without being crowded.
The best dining experience we had in Portland. This is a must when you are visiting the city!
Food, service, ambience were all superb. Highly recommend the filet and scallops.
Nostrana is our favorite restaurant to celebrate with the family. This is the second year experiencing the NYE menu. The food and wine pairings were wonderful. The service is fantastic.
We are big fans of Nostrana and have been bringing guests in and converting them to the delicious food and top notch service for a few years now. So when we were in charge of plans for a couples evening out for New Years Eve they were top of mind for reservations.
When we saw the fixed menu we momentarily hesitated as we were unsure our favorites would be included. Because we had faith we secured reservations. Imagine our surprise when it was a limited menu and someone insisted we send our choices in ahead of the due date. I had to coral 6 adults into making selections and completing the outlines homework assignment and give my credit card number to be accepted. We told ourselves, “we trust them, it’s going to be delicious”. One of the couples had never been so we were quite proud to introduce them to the restaurant. The other couple was a big fan as well.
We arrived to a packed house with an upbeat vibe. We waited for our table at the lovely bar next door. When the 6 of us were escorted to our table. It was a 4 top for the 6 of us. People were packed in like sardines.
The service was exceptional as always. What a relief to know that this on a busy evening was consistent. The starter Burrata dish was lovely. Then the main course filets arrived. We were all amazed at how tiny the portion was. We were unsure which was the potato or the beef. It was so out of character. The chocolate torte tasted like card board. For $240 per couple it was appalling.
I never write reviews but this experience motivated me to do so. Nostrana, we were rooting for you! You could have made a lasting holiday memory and gained more respect and new customers. What a missed opportunity!
New Year’s eve dinner is always a challenge for most restaurants… But Nostrana Restaurant through with flying colors
Nostrana remains one of our most favorite restaurants in Portland. Their New Year’s Eve 3-course prix fixe offerings were simply superb, made more superb by starting off with a dozen oysters. We brought wine from our vineyard, a 2017 white Pinot Noir which paired wonderfully with the amuse Boucher, oysters and first course (an Ahi credo salad) and a 2012 red Pinot Noir that went great with either the scallops or the filet second course. The parfait for dessert was divine. Gina (our server) made sure all went smoothly and pleasantly so we could make thePink Martini concert afterwards, and Reynaldo was attentive to the wine levels in our glasses. Could not have had a more pleasant New Year’s Eve dining experience.
Everything was perfect. The food was beyond phenomenal and the service was top notch as always. A perfect way to spend new year's eve!
Food was delicious, as always, and service was prompt, friendly, and on top of everything going on in the busy restaurant. I never fail to be impressed by Nostrana- best restaurant in Portland!
Underwhelmed for an Italian restaurant. The Italian wedding soup was lame...meatballs floating in greasy broth with a few pieces if cutup pasta. Progresso does a better job on Italian Wedding Soup. I opted for the smoked chicken - which was fine but not really Italian...polenta in lieu of mashed potatoes would have aligned better as Italian cusine. Calamari appetizer was ok but small portion. Using a chicken candle to celebrate a birthday was odd. Writing Happy Birthday on a plate with 1/2 scoop of gelato or a cookie would had more panache. Wine list by the glass - not good. I did ask if something better would be possible for red by the glass and the team responded very well with something else.
My friend and I were visiting from out of town and I had heard great things about the restaurant. Needless to say I was not disappointed! The food was incredible. Some of the best Italian food I’ve had anywhere right there in Portland! If you’re looking for elevated Italian fare in Portland then look no further!
The food was excellent! However, I did not rate the place with 5 stars because our waitress was fairly rude, not friendly, not helpful answering questions on the menu, and overall unpleasant. If we were to return, it would be a long time from now.
The food was delicious! Our server was amazing. Very professional and knowledgeable!
I'm not sure hue many superlatives I can fit into one review, but Nostrana inspires me to try. The restaurant is large but cozy, the fire in the pizza oven a mesmerizing art piece, and the service was perfectly timed and extremely friendly. We were there on gnocchi Thursday and I've officially been ruined fir any other gnocchi. I get ahead of myself, though because the Insalata Nostrana has a cult following for a reason and is the best Caesar interpretation I didn't know I needed. We then shared two gnocchi plates - pork confit and the tomato butter sauce. How good is the tomato butter sauce? THAT GOOD! And served on pillowy gnocchi. THE BEST. We wrapped up our meal with a butterscotch bodino, a light mousse with a salted caramel layer and a bit of creme fraiche. The perfect end to what was a perfect meal.
Warm and cozy restaurant with amazing food! We were there for a gnocchi night, which was delightful. Overall great experience
Cool place! Food was delicious, good service. Apple crisp is worth the wait!!!
My husband and I went to Nostrana on Sunday, December 22nd. For a Sunday night, it was very busy, but the tables are well-spaced, which helps reduce the noise level. The food and the service were outstanding. My soup de jour and my husband's fresh, caesar style salad were wonderful. I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly, and my husband's pasta dish with Dungeness crab was delicious. Nostrana was very accommodating for my lactose intolerance. Our server was friendly, helpful and checked on us regularly without hovering. We look forward to having another dinner there.
