We have been to North Star before, so clearly we like the place since here we were back again. We had brunch for 8 on Sunday and were overall very pleased with the experience. As always, the Bloody Marys were solid, the scones were a nice touch, and the food was good.
One very slight issue was that we had multiple people in our party who were waiting for longer than they liked for a refill of their coffee. I believe this issue could be easily resolved by having larger coffee cups.
I heard no complaints about any of the food at all. My mother ordered her eggs on her eggs benedict poached hard, and at first was disappointed to find them runny, but eventually realized that she and my uncle had ordered the same thing and they had simply gotten mixed up between the kitchen and the table; no harm done.
I ordered the soup and salad combination with the caesar salad being very good. The French Onion soup was pretty good, but just a tad too salty for me. To be fair, having a Bloody Mary as my beverage probably didn't help and may have caused me to perceive too much saltiness when it was actually not the case.
In any case, we were happy with our experience and will keep coming back! Thanks!
The food is always tasty. My only disappointment is with the brand of coffee they serve. It has a very burnt taste.
The service was good and the food was generally decent but any place that is still serving those canned mandarins to anyone (even kids) as the fruit option is probably not a place I’d choose to spend money at a second time. My 4 year old daughter ate one and said, “Mama, these don’t take like real oranges. No one is going to eat these.” :) she’s not wrong!
This was my first time going to NSAB in Shorewood; I typically go to the one in Brookfield. The food was great; service was very good. But it was very very loud and seemed somewhat cramped compared to the Brookfield location.
We enjoyed two different fish entrees, each an outstanding pairing of fresh ingredients. The main dining room was noisy, making it difficult to hear the conversation at our own table. We had a 6PM Saturday reservation and there were quite a few toddlers in the crowd. When we come back, we'll have to dine later. Our server was attentive and friendly. I was surprised by the many wine-by-the-glass options.
Not enough staff
We were not offered bread - had to ask for it
Appetizer salads took forever and when they came they were delivered at the same time as dinner
Delicious as always! Great menu choices!
Fun in the kids room!
Amazingly, there was no wheat or multigrain bread among the three (all white) selections - and pretty dried out, as well. Service was slow, but it was a busy Friday night, and I don't like having to track down someone to ask for a refill on water. The food, however, was quite good, and reasonably priced. The tabletop was a bit tacky.
Monday dinner for 3 adults was great. Cripsy great Calamari for appetizer. Goat cheese beet salad and small combo side salads good. Almond Crusted Whitefish with spinach and basmati rice excellent. Shrimp pasta dish was much needed comfort food (recent death in family) quite good for the other 2 entrees. New Zealand S. Blanc citrus flavor. Bread Pudding and Apple Cobbler great to share. Early dining was quiet. Excellent server, George! Thank you!
Wonderful food, ambience and service. Beautifully plated. Wetry to come for dinner whenever We’re in town. I would love to see one community table for people to join in communally and more creative desserts & gluten-free main dishes
this was my third time dining here and all four of us had superb dinners. They really know how to handle food and make the most of fresh ingredients. Salmon is a standout here, and a tomato-shrimp-risotto with arugula was a fabulous accompaniment. I can't imagine a better dinner.
Another pleasant evening at North Star. As always, the food was excellent. On our Thursday night visit, however, the service could have been a bit more attentive.
Our reservation was for 6, but due to illness and family issues at the last minute only 3 of our party were able to make it...the hostess was very accommodating, set us up at a smaller table and never made us feel as if it were an imposition. The service was great, food was good and they let us sit for awhile after we had finished dinner to just talk, will definitely go back there.
St. Patrick’s Day gathering of friends. Best corned beef and cabbage dinner.! Other delicious items to choose from, too.
My family had lunch there on a Sunday afternoon. There were 3 children in our group and the staff was very accommodating. The menu had something for everyone ( vegan, gluten free, small children) and everyone enjoyed it.
We will go back!
Good food and cocktails. Nice atmosphere. Quiet enough to have a conversation during dinner.
Food and service are consistently good. Atmosphere is pleasant. Good wine selections.
Service was very good, food excellent, nice place with a good overall atmosphere.
Everything was so enjoyable.
Another excellent meal and service. Would recommend the crusted whitefish and steak sandwich.. both very good . Our server, Maxwell, was very attentive in refilling coffee and water and letting us leisure through dinner.... It was a quiet Monday night due to the pending snow storms and we were so happy to be inside warm feasting on a great meal on a great lake in Shorewood!
The salmon salad, at both locations, is always very good
Good atmosphere, slow service, mediocre food.
Great Food - always consistent!
The 3 people who ordered the steak on mashed potatoes all had very tough pieces of meat (couldn't chew).the salads were ok.the premeal bread was not up to your standards of last year.In fact the entire meal was not up to our last years experience.
I was celebrating my birthday w/ my children & their wives & was embarrassed w/ the food.
Henry (Bud) Meece
Service was rather slow on a non-busy evening. I always order the meatloaf here as it's usually very good. This time, there was too much sauce and it was only lukewarm, as were the mashed potatoes. Other entrees were decent.
Took my nephew to North Star Bistro before he went back to school. Food was great, the service was good even though we had to ask for bread. I had a martini made with an allspice syrup. It was excellent!
North Star Bistro makes the best short ribs in town. It's really a great meal.
My sister and a mutual friend went to North Star on a bitter cold Wednesday night and were immediately greeted warmly and led to a delightful table. Our enthusiastic server made us feel at ease. The menu was supplemented by the soup of the day and a special. Two of us tried the soup of the day, a mushroom soup, rich and flavorful. My sister had a cheeseburger, and our friend and I tried the special, a mushroom risotto with scallops. Delicious and perfect on such a cold night. The glass of tempranillo I had was a good accompaniment to the robust mushroom flavor. All in all, a nice evening.
thank you for a lovely graduation lunch for my son. Also the waitresses were lovely.
We had not been there for awhile and have now re-added it to our go to list in the North Shore. The tuna is fantastic!
Friday Fish Fry is outstanding
Great service. Not noisy.
I am a repeat customer who lives in Florida 6 months of the year, and live 100 miles from Shorewood the other 6 months. My wife and I get to Milwaukee several times and always enjoy this restaurant. Only complaint is I always leave a little hungry, and don’t feel like popping for desert and all those calories. Portions could be bigger or throw in a side salad.
First time for brunch. we have been there before for dinner and always enjoyed it. The service was erratic. Our waiter was attentive at first but it was a long time between our beverage order and ordering our entrees. Eventually we had to ask for him. The food when it came was good. My gravlax on potato pancake version of eggs benedict was very tasty. The others in our group of 4 enjoyed their meals as well.
The food and service here are always good,. The problem is parking. Be prepared to walk several blocks when the restaurant is busy. This won't be a popular option in winter. The Village of Shorewood needs to address the shortage of off-street parking.
We had a very good dinner the six of us. Our server Elle was very good and took care of us. WE had a little bit of everything from the menu, Salmon looked great, Whitefish - two different entrees- one was the special and the other off of the standard menu, both were really good, Crab cake salad was also enjoyed. We had a birtheday at our table and when we started to sing Happy Birthday the whole restaurant joined in and 5 minutes later another table had a birthday and 5 minutes after that so did another table. The whole restaurant was into it. A lot of fun and always enjoy North Star American Bistro.
North Star Bistro is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. The food and service are always good. The menu features many dishes that are unique to this restaurant. It's noise
level is high and lighting bright so don't expect a romantic dinner for two there.
Beautiful location and atmosphere, great for date nights, and no rush from servers for longer conversation while enjoying your dinner.
We have eaten there MANY times and it is always good. It is amazingly consistent and a great value. You can do well with any thing from a simple burger to a full fish meal. By far our favorite place for everyday or family events.
