North Pond Ratings and Reviews
Michelin one star food, attentive but not first class service, background jazz far too lively (drums) for the setting, adequate but not exceptional wine list with under 100 bottles. Parking difficult to locate and not highlighted on the website. Not a bad value.
I went here recently with my family to celebrate my graduation, and I was so impressed with our experience! The wait staff (hostess, valet, and waiter) were all attentive and accommodating. The architecture is beautiful, and the ambiance is quiet enough that you don't have to shout to converse with your party. The food is delicious (I had the fluke and fennel), although I would not recommend for picky eaters, as there are some unusual but tasty sides with each dish. Only downside is that North Pond is a little hard to find - be sure to enter at Lakeview & Deming (this is also where the valet is). We drove past it a couple times before realizing we were on the wrong side of the park. Overall, would recommend for a special occasion!
Disappointing! And what a surprise. We have had many very fine meals here. This time the food was uninspired. The service was particularly poor. When our wine glasses were empty they were collected and we were never asked if we wanted more. Our waitperson was indifferent at best. getting her attention was tough. We felt...abaandoned.
Had tasting menu for our anniversary. Good portions and choices. Only problem was entree was pidgeon. Couldn’t look at it and couldn’t substitute anything else. But service was excellent, room lovely, fireplace warm and cozy. Several complimentary tidbits between courses. Beautiful city view
I had been here before and it was a very nice experience. However, I don't think I'll come back after this latest experience. The staff was very nice and the service was good...but a bit rushed. The issue I had was the tasting menu and the wine pairings. I didn't enjoy the food as it seemed like the chef was trying too hard to come up with something exotic and it was just a failure of mismatched and over-powering flavors. The wine pairings, particularly the sparkling starter, fell short for the prices charged. Two people ended up well over $300. Quite disappointing.
We were seated by the fireplace overlooking the pond. Service was thoughtful and brisk, and we never felt rushed. The food was outstanding, a sensory experience we will not forget. Details like cranberry muffins, bourbon foam or smoked grape leaves stand out, along with perfectly grilled, smoky bass.
Celebrated our 10th Anniversary here. North Pond went out of their way to make our night special from complimentary champagne to customized menus with our names for the event. Food was fantastic and the service excellent, minimizing interruptions to provide a private experience while keeping things going seamlessly. Great ambiance with a lake view. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem.
Had heard wonderful things from friends and family, so we tried North Pond for our anniversary. The first course was enjoyable, but the soup was initially served room temperature and had to be replaced. This wasn't a particularly large issue since it was quickly resolved and both starters were great. For the main course, we ordered the beef and the duck. Both dishes were horribly flavored and neither of us could finish our meals (or each other's meals for that matter). We both left the majority of our entrees on the plates, but nobody seemed to notice or care. Decided to pass on dessert and have a smaller meal elsewhere. I expected a great and special meal based on everything I had heard and the Michelin Star, but I don't think either of us will be returning.
Everything about our experience was exceptional. From the tasting menu to the wine pairings, every detail of our meal was well orchestrated. It was my birthday and we would probably call ourselves foodies. We have eaten around the world and this was one of the most unique meals we have encountered. Thank you to North Pond for making my Birthday amazing.
We were seated a table by the kitchen. I am not sure what they are trying to be with their food but the combo of veal and strip steak was a total disappointment. My wife liked her fist dish.
I am a dessert fan and it was 50/50. For the price I can’t recommend North Pond.
North Pond is truly an oasis in the city. The location alone would be reason to visit but the food and preparation would be better reasons no matter the location.
You'll leave the city behind as you take a short walk from a busy street into the quiet of the park on what is actually a waterfront location bordering, what else, North Pond.
Then there is the food. Always an interesting menu, consistently well done, as local as can be and beautifully presented.
On my many visits I've never once been less than delighted.
Very creative meals and good quality ingredients. The space is wonderful as well; prairie inspired architecture and decor (think Frank Lloyd Wright). A little warm in the seating area, but the bar was nice while waiting for my guest. The hostess would not seat my table until all parties arrived which is normal but then didn't remember why or what my situation was when my guest did arrive. This would be reasonable if the hostess was busy, but 3 small groups had entered during the two interactions and there were two hostesses. I was taken back by the indifference of the two hostesses towards the guests.
We were seated in the room with the open kitchen and what should have been a nice quiet dinner was totally ruined by the orders being loudly called in!! Especially for first 20 minutes or so.
Also our waitress forgot to check back with us after our main course arrived and I desperately wanted a second glass of wine. After picking at my entree for what seemed like 10 minutes, I finally nabbed her as she was leaving a table next to us.
The dessert menu seemed foreign to us so we were happy to just have a cup of decaf and we're delighted when special chocolates arrived for the special occasion which was the 50th anniversary of our first date which occurred on his 21st birthday on Friday the 13th.
I'm a large commercial tomato farmer in Michigan, and hand carried 25 Lbs of tomatoes to the restaurant for a special suprise for our girlfriends 50th birthday. Just asked that the kitchen slice one or two up for her with salt. Had business cards with them, etc.
When the tomato course came, they were NOT mine. Natalie (manager,) said it was illegal to serve them. Didn't understand, as we sell to thousands of restaurants, but fine. We were done with dinner so I requested the the check (590) and the tomatoes back. When we picked them back up at the hostess stand there were more than 1/2 gone! LOL
North Pond was outstanding! Two of us were there to celebrate our birthdays and we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional, we all ordered the bass for our entree and found it a delight. Our server Scott helped us to select a perfect wine. The only disappointment was the location of our table which was near the kitchen. Fortunately the noise level was not so challenging as to hinder conversation.
This experience was fantastic every step of the way. From the phone call 2 days before our reservation until we left the restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by how thoughtful everything was for our anniversary celebration. Our names on the menu was a big wow factor! Thanks for superior service, excellent food & beautiful ambiance to relax & enjoy the evening!
Just another great meal and experience at North Pond. The meals (Sea Bass and Pheasant) were excellent as usual. But it was the appetizers that stole the show. Foie gras and sweetbreads stole the show. The extra fresh items complimented the features so well that they easily could have entrees.
We experienced the tasting menu and the wine pairings. Everything was excellent. The multiple courses were just the right size and the extra chef surprises were all special treats. The wine pairings were well chosen, although the pours were a bit small and we had to struggle to make them last through the courses.
The service was good but our own server was a bit socially awkward.
The location and environment are stunning, due to the city skyline backdrop and the architectural pedigree. There is a great "to do" about presentation..with an eclectic and diverse attempt to delight your taste buds; however, the portions are small and the quality of the meal does not equal the price the establishment charges. The waiter mixed up my wife and my salads and the food was unimpressive....will not return.....
