North Pond Ratings and Reviews
Was there for a early New Yesr’s Eve Tasting menu. Pre-fix meal with wine options were innovative and exquisite. Service was friendly but professional. The atmosphere of sitting in an beautiful room looking out on the cold pond with the city skyline in the horizon was a great way to end the year. We will be back.
This is a great restaurant! The service is impeccable. The dishes are delicious and unique. I recommend the seasonal tastings with the wine pairings but you cannot go wrong ordering off the regular menu either.
Their weekend brunch is something you should definitely try! It is not a standard buffet but rather another tasting menu with three or four interesting dishes (and a choice of two or three for each dish).
This is a can't miss place!!!
It is the most elegant dining in chicago. Quaint, cozy, sophisticated and centrally locAted. There is nothing like it anywhere we have been in a metro area. An amazing meal for those wishing for something more in a restaurant. We have been going since it opened many years ago and live it more each time.
We dined here after not eating here for many years. It did not disappoint--the North Pond's menu changes regularly with the seasons which is nice for more frequent dining. We shared a few appetizers and salads and each got his/her entree which worked well. Next time we will try the tasting menu. My only complaint is that we were told the tasting menu was not an option b/c one member of party had a shellfish allergy. All other restaurants with tasting menus where we've dined were able to accommodate this particular allergy.
Food excellent, as always. Music too loud to point of intrusiveness, at least where we were seated. Most annoying was that door was locked and staff inside would not open it until stroke of scheduled time for dinner service at 5:30, although night was very cold and one cannot wait in car because restaurant is in park.
We chose this charming restaurant for our wedding anniversary, and they had special menus printed up with our names for the occasion. In bad winter weather this place can be a challenge to get to, located in the middle of Lincoln Park about 100 yards from the nearest street, but we live `within walking distrance and were fortunate to get a mild, clear evening. As fans of arts and crafts architecture, we love the décor of this former warming house for ice skaters on the nearby pond, and the unobstructed views of the downtown skyscrapers are hard to beat. The food, described simply by the two main ingredients, is complex but not fussy, and the sometimes puzzling combination of flavors almost always works. We had the seasonal tasting menu which consisted of Fois Gras, Pear; Crab, Peanut; Beef, Beet; Squab, Feta; and Carrot, Orange.-a perfect celebration.
North Pond offered an incredible dining experience in a beautifully crafted restaurant. The tasting menu is your best choice to see the real brilliance of the chef and find new and unexpected flavors you will love. The staff is excellent. They are friendly, always helpful, and knowledgable about each course they serve.
I highly recommend a trip to North Pond for a wonderful evening.
Michelin one star food, attentive but not first class service, background jazz far too lively (drums) for the setting, adequate but not exceptional wine list with under 100 bottles. Parking difficult to locate and not highlighted on the website. Not a bad value.
I went here recently with my family to celebrate my graduation, and I was so impressed with our experience! The wait staff (hostess, valet, and waiter) were all attentive and accommodating. The architecture is beautiful, and the ambiance is quiet enough that you don't have to shout to converse with your party. The food is delicious (I had the fluke and fennel), although I would not recommend for picky eaters, as there are some unusual but tasty sides with each dish. Only downside is that North Pond is a little hard to find - be sure to enter at Lakeview & Deming (this is also where the valet is). We drove past it a couple times before realizing we were on the wrong side of the park. Overall, would recommend for a special occasion!
Disappointing! And what a surprise. We have had many very fine meals here. This time the food was uninspired. The service was particularly poor. When our wine glasses were empty they were collected and we were never asked if we wanted more. Our waitperson was indifferent at best. getting her attention was tough. We felt...abaandoned.
Had tasting menu for our anniversary. Good portions and choices. Only problem was entree was pidgeon. Couldn’t look at it and couldn’t substitute anything else. But service was excellent, room lovely, fireplace warm and cozy. Several complimentary tidbits between courses. Beautiful city view
I had been here before and it was a very nice experience. However, I don't think I'll come back after this latest experience. The staff was very nice and the service was good...but a bit rushed. The issue I had was the tasting menu and the wine pairings. I didn't enjoy the food as it seemed like the chef was trying too hard to come up with something exotic and it was just a failure of mismatched and over-powering flavors. The wine pairings, particularly the sparkling starter, fell short for the prices charged. Two people ended up well over $300. Quite disappointing.
We were seated by the fireplace overlooking the pond. Service was thoughtful and brisk, and we never felt rushed. The food was outstanding, a sensory experience we will not forget. Details like cranberry muffins, bourbon foam or smoked grape leaves stand out, along with perfectly grilled, smoky bass.
Celebrated our 10th Anniversary here. North Pond went out of their way to make our night special from complimentary champagne to customized menus with our names for the event. Food was fantastic and the service excellent, minimizing interruptions to provide a private experience while keeping things going seamlessly. Great ambiance with a lake view. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem.
Had heard wonderful things from friends and family, so we tried North Pond for our anniversary. The first course was enjoyable, but the soup was initially served room temperature and had to be replaced. This wasn't a particularly large issue since it was quickly resolved and both starters were great. For the main course, we ordered the beef and the duck. Both dishes were horribly flavored and neither of us could finish our meals (or each other's meals for that matter). We both left the majority of our entrees on the plates, but nobody seemed to notice or care. Decided to pass on dessert and have a smaller meal elsewhere. I expected a great and special meal based on everything I had heard and the Michelin Star, but I don't think either of us will be returning.
Everything about our experience was exceptional. From the tasting menu to the wine pairings, every detail of our meal was well orchestrated. It was my birthday and we would probably call ourselves foodies. We have eaten around the world and this was one of the most unique meals we have encountered. Thank you to North Pond for making my Birthday amazing.
We were seated a table by the kitchen. I am not sure what they are trying to be with their food but the combo of veal and strip steak was a total disappointment. My wife liked her fist dish.
I am a dessert fan and it was 50/50. For the price I can’t recommend North Pond.
North Pond is truly an oasis in the city. The location alone would be reason to visit but the food and preparation would be better reasons no matter the location.
You'll leave the city behind as you take a short walk from a busy street into the quiet of the park on what is actually a waterfront location bordering, what else, North Pond.
Then there is the food. Always an interesting menu, consistently well done, as local as can be and beautifully presented.
On my many visits I've never once been less than delighted.
Very creative meals and good quality ingredients. The space is wonderful as well; prairie inspired architecture and decor (think Frank Lloyd Wright). A little warm in the seating area, but the bar was nice while waiting for my guest. The hostess would not seat my table until all parties arrived which is normal but then didn't remember why or what my situation was when my guest did arrive. This would be reasonable if the hostess was busy, but 3 small groups had entered during the two interactions and there were two hostesses. I was taken back by the indifference of the two hostesses towards the guests.
