It was a special celebration for my daughter's 40th birthday and she was greeted by name, a menu printed with her name and a dessert plate with her name written in chocolate and a candle. It was a lovely evening and it was VERY special to her too! Thanks to the staff..
Great food and atmosphere to start but the exterior dining room (the room with the view of the pond rather than the view of the kitchen) became very, unpleasantly loud by 7:30. The atmosphere changed from romantic to obnoxious over the course of two hours.
MEDIOCRE, over-priced food in a lovely building in the middle of the woods with a shimmering pond with ducks. It is simply a beautiful setting. The food, however, left me wanting. The vegetetarian entree, which consisted of eggplant and other vegetables, cost $33, while a lobster entree cost $35. This price structure didn't make sense to me. The bass was pan-fried on a cassolet of heavy beans and greens; the pork loin was slightly undercooked for my taste, but I ate it anyway. Both dishes were understated and boring. Appetizers were tasty greens with fresh fruits or vegetables. Dessert was a variety of chocolate bits.
I would never go back.
I will certainly recommend it, and will go back and visit again. Loved the professionalism each member displayed throughout my stay. Food is magnificent!
It was a very nice place to take someone special
I have never heardanyonesay they regreted what it cost to take their young chidlren to Disneyland. I would say the same thing about North Pond. While it is pricey, it is well worth the cost. The restaurant is a splendid example of Arts and Craft at its best. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the wine list and dinner selections.Going to North Pond is always a great memory.
The food was definitely 5 star gourmet quality but for a much friendlier price. I took my mom here for her b'day and she absolutely loved it as well. The chef paid detailed attention to every one of the dishes from 1st course to end; exquisite use of all ingredients thru the preparation and cooking process. Wonderful friendly and attentive staff. Ambience was just as top notch. Spectacular place!
I been here about 12 times now and I'm always impressed. The food is amazing!!
Absolutely fabulous restaurant with gorgeous views of Lincoln Park and the pond. Excellent service. A total Yum, Yum experience!
Food was teriffic as was service
Beautiful location. Food was good, but nothing to brag about.
brunch on the park was beautiful. the setting is very special and the food is too.
This is a very fine restaurant with an excellent and creative chef. We did the sunday brunch and it is a bargain for the quality of food. We are from out of town and would do this place again in a heartbeat.
We love your restaurant and come for special occasions. However, I think I am growing tired of the unusualness of your desserts. I don't enjoy them as I used to when they were more like "desserts." Personally, I would like to see desserts from the Boston Cooking School cookbook or the old White House cookbook. We stay away from such sweets, but really love them once in a while.
Fabulous! Inventive. Beautiful presentations. Surprises that tantalize your taste buds. Not stuffy. Lovely walk through short portion of Lincoln Park to the north side of the pond. Building is converted old ice skating warming shelter - lovely decor.
As usual, our annual dinner to celebrate my friend's birthday was terrific. But avocado sorbet? - no - the only bad thing I've ever had in 10+ years of dining here. Otherwise, everything was just as great as it always is.
Great food, but don't count on brunch seating in the room with good natural light and a view of the park. We thought we reserved it, but when we arrived the VERY young receptionists told us that "everyone wants it" and it's "the luck of the draw" to get seated in this room, (delivery accompanied by eye rolls). We were entertaining out of town visitors (noted in the reservation) and it would have been very awkward to leave. So instead we had to sit in a dark room filled with service stations and a noisy open kitchen. Open kitchens are okay, but not when you're expecting a tranquil view of the park. If I requested a certain room that can't be confirmed, why couldn't any of the THREE confirmation emails I got have alerted me to that?
Aside from an upsetting start to our dining experience (we arrived early, hostess was annoyed and made us wait), the entire meal was great. Our server redeemed the experience for us with a friendly attitude and exceptional knowledge of the menu. Food was far above average and was enjoyed by everyone in our party.
This is a lovely restaurant in a beautiful setting. Service is first rate and the room is quiet and comfortable.
Never had a bad meal or dish at North Pond.
Outstanding dinner. One member of our party had significant food allergies and yet the chef found ways to make her meal interesting and tasty. The menu is adventurous and everything was prepared to perfection. Staff are attentive without being intrusive and very friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
The food and service were excellent. I told them it was my girlfriend's birthday and they wrote Happy Birthday Tara at the top of the menus for us. They also put a candle on the dessert without asking. They really made the night special. The food was everything I heard it was... excellent.
Everything about the restaurant was wonderful. Getting there was not. Their address is NOT really their address! Their address is listed as North Cannon but their valet parking/cab drop off is on Lake View. We were 20 minutes late for our reservation and the hostess had to "talk us in" as our cab driver was totally lost!
The food was spectacular! Everyone at the table kept saying-- "You have to taste this"
Loved it. I'm pretty critical when it comes to restaurants, and I'd put this as one of my top 5 in Chicago. Outstanding food and interesting / different mix of flavors and ingredients. Excellent, knowledgeable service. Overall, made a Sunday evening out feel like a special, fun occasion.
Excellent dining experience as always from North Pond. Slow food served in an Arts & Craft setting with great service.
Dining at North Pond was a real treat. The food was imaginative yet very balanced interms of flavors and portions. We had the tasting menu and left feeling satisfied and thankful for experiencing such beautifully presented and equally tasty plates of food.
Great food, although a prix fixe menu is not my idea of fun, this place serves very imaginative, great-tasting food and is well worth the visit. You might need help getting to the intersection where you may of may not see the valet, but look for his sign and good luck!
Seated next to a large group(10 adults and 3 or 4 children, the children weren't still enough to count, all related , in the middle of the room that got a bit noisy and hectic. But for the noise, I'd give North Pond five stars overall.
The service was mixed. The waiter was not attentive or quick. The other helpers, though, were very attentive and professional. As for the food: I thought it was truly terrible. I understand that "foodies" may like this sort of stuff. As for me, I think food should taste good, especially at the price of a delicious meal at Morton's.
North Pond is hands down one of the best restaurants in the city. Great food, beautifully presented in a lovely setting - what could be better!
Great Place! What a beautiful restaurant! Will definitely go back.
The closest thing Chicago has to "Tavern On The Green," and best of all, North Pond is still in business! But I wish it was easier to find. The address should be on Lake View, not Cannon Drive.
We had a wonderful evening at North Pond. The wine selection was excellent and the food was exciting. Each dish was beautifully presented so our meal was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. The desserts were very creative. Don't pass on dessert!!! When we left the restaurant we had a beautiful nighttime view of the city across the pond. We were with an out of town guest and we were able to enjoyed relaxed, unhurried conversation attended to by a wonderful staff.
We truly enjoyed North Pond. Lovely setting, and fabulous food. Tough to beat this spot.
We liked the menu with Happy Birthday Elfie- We will treasure it. It was nice to take a friend that came in from Oregon
We celebrated a very special occasion at North Pond. Everything about the experience exceeded our expectations. We were especially pleased that the weather was perfect for opening the floor-to-ceiling French doors on two sides of the dining room overlooking North Pond. What a perfect view on an early September day. The brunch selections were delightful, the food delicious, the presentation exquisite, the wait staff attentive.
One of my favorite Chicago restaurants!
The view here is as beautiful as the food! The view over North Pond is the Chicago skyline. Be sure to ask for a view when making your reservation.
The food is all locally sourced, and is prepared superbly and in innovative ways. The Sunday brunch is a phenomenal deal-- prix fixe 3-course menu.
The service was a bit lacking on the last Sunday we went. . . we did not get our first course for 40 minutes. The manager, however, compensated us with a complimentary dessert.
First clas place. . . a must-eat in Chicago!
We had a lovely waitress who was happy to explain things to my husband who prefers very simple foods.
The brunch provided a wide variety of choices and everything was beautifully prepared, though portions were somewhat smaller than expected.
North Pond has a beautiful view of Lincoln Park, but not all tables are situated in close proximity to the view. I'd recommend asking for a table near the windows.
We love North Pond and have been several times. The menu is always changing because they use seasonal foods. All I can say is it is a lovely lovely charming place for a quiet dinner with great food and service.
