North Italia – Kierland Commons Ratings and Reviews
One of my go to places for lunch with my elderly father. We like to go and sit outside with the puppy and have a nice meal. This time around we were actually redirected and sat at BaRNorth. Their bar and patio location next door. We were served all the same terrific food as we would have if we sat in the actual North Italia patio, but we had a much more laid back and roomier table.
Busy at early hours (6-7pm arrival) but empty by 930pm - Il Postino still hopping. Bar service good, dinner service very good. Charcuterie plate very disappointing - only one meat - prosciutto and only 4 pieces of that. Seemed under portioned - would not re-order or recommend - although the relishes and cutneys they had on the board were excellent. Pizza good - a little more burnt on crust that expected. Bolognese Sauce sweet and tomatoey - waiter did offer to assist and bring some cheese and peppers to try improving the flavor. Would not do that again. Pasta was stuck together and not al dente.
Excellent and friendly service. Creative menu. Good food. Just a real frustration like all businesses in Kierland to find parking. It will be more so when winter visitors come. I like North, but parking is a real consideration for wanting to go there often or not.
Our meal was outstanding. The service was great! My husband ordered the bollognese and it was authentic with the 3 different meats. I️ ordered a chicken dish with spinach and pine nuts in a cream sauce. I couldn’t believe how much chicken there was. Both were delicious!
Got there early for happy hour and 75% of the tables were open...yet were seated right by the front door with ALL the traffic of people brushing up against my chair as they walked in. Not a run experience. Wait staff at that time was short so we had to wait about 5-8 min before anyone even came over to the table and put water down or asked for a drink order.
The food here is always spot on. I always order the Bolognese and it is spot on. Actually - I've never heard of a poor meal at this place.
Service is usually very good.
If there are any drawbacks, be prepared it is extremely loud. I have to be careful who I take to dinner because it's difficult to hear. Don't let that dissuade you, just be conscious of it. This is not a relaxing, quiet, restaurant.
First off, this restaurant is one of my absolute favorites, the bolognese is to die for! We had gone to their Tucson location and this was our first in Scottsdale.
We made reservations, and upon our (early) arrival asked if we could get a table outside. The hostesses let us know it would be a little bit of a wait, but we could have a seat at the bar. We agreed to that as we weren't in a hurry and were also about 25 minutes early for our reservation anyway. after 45 minutes we still had not heard from the hostesses, but had seen others be seated outside. I asked the hostess how long it would be and she replied she could seat us now. So, clearly, she had forgotten about us. Upon being seated at a (dirty) table outside, multiple employees walked past as we sat there for 10 minutes waiting. Finally, after no service, we returned to our seats at the bar. (It could also be noted that the restaurant wasn't overly busy.. we are definitely understanding when you can see servers are spread too thin and really trying.)
The bartender asked why we came back and we just explained we had yet to be waited on and were getting hungry by that point. We really weren't upset at all, just ready for some food. She apologized and immediately let us know she would rush our order and the meal would be on the house. We felt that she really went above and beyond to redeem the faults of her co-workers and made our experience great. We really appreciated the comp'd meal, and by no means expected it! She did a great job bar tending all night, and really made the experience for us.
