North Italia – Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
Had reservations. Had to wait over a half an hour past the time we had arranged. Then, once seated, told the waiter we were in a bit of a time pinch and he seemed to lose track of us as we had to remind him of what we had ordered. Good food, not so great service or attention to details.
I forgot to request a booth when I made our reservation. We didn't think it would be an issue since it was 5:15. I asked for a booth, hostess said they needed to save them for parties of 5 or more - 2 were currently open and many of the booths were filled with parties of 2 some with 4. As we started our dinner 4 more booths opened up ....ridiculous not accommodate a reservation customer.
Everything was very enjoyable...the food, service, and wine. The calamari was tasty and tender. The glazed short ribs were tender and flavorful. However, the pasta Bolognese was underwhelming. The Bolognese sauce was fine; however, the pasta was tough (undercooked) and wasn't "al dente". It could be that the quality level of the pasta needs to be improved. Overall, it was a pleasant evening with friends.
It was my first time visiting the restaurant; I had heard amazing reviews from friends and wanted to check it out. The food was fantastic, the wine selection was superb, and the service was what you would expect from a very crowded space. Be prepared to overhear the conversations at the tables next to you because the tables are almost uncomfortably close to each other...and that's if you can hear anything at all--the space has no deadening aspects so every little sound carries throughout the space. If the tables were spaced out more comfortably, maybe there would be less noise and less bumping into the table next to you when you get up from your table. Overall, a great place for a small gathering of friends or date night with your significant other! The food and wine are seriously out of this world...that made up for the uncomfortable closeness with the strangers sitting at the tables next to us!
Disappointing evening. Late getting our table. Long wait for service. Dessert took forever to be served and the tiramisu was marginal. Rest of the meal was good but the waitress was not managing the table very well at all.
The food was fine. The service was atrocious -- from the time we arrived, until we left. There is no intimacy with tables literally piled up on top of each other -- so that you are unable to speak with the person sitting across the table from you.
Also, hold onto your wallet. Every action seems geared to have you spend more.
Arrive on time? Too bad. Please wait at the bar and buy some overpriced drinks.
Would you like a glass of wine? May I recommend the most expensive glass -- regardless of what you may like.
Oh, you bought a bottle, please allow me to pour a glass all the way to the brim. Maybe you'll just buy another bottle -- even if there are just two of you.
I have loved every meal I've had at North so when friends were coming to town it seemed the perfect place to go somehow knowing they would love it. And love it they did! We were there on a Sunday night when bottles of wine are 1/2 price, which was a bonus extra, but every meal choice was enjoyed and everyone loved the Zucca Chips! When I ordered a cappuccino and was then told they were out of milk so they could not make one, I told them no problem. But then the manager came over and said he was on his way to the grocery store to get milk to make me one. I declined his magnanimous offer, but who does that?? North does.
I have always enjoyed going to North. But those visits have been for lunch or happy hour, not for dinner on a Saturday night. I would steer clear of North on a Saturday night. The noise level was almost impossible to have a nice conservation for a table of 4. Yes it has energy but I found it unpleasant. The food and drink make up for it. Excellent! I'm on the older side (60) so I know this may not bother the younger set, but for those of us that have the time and money to go out, it's important.
Our meals were oh so good! There were six of us, we all ordered something different and all of us loved our meals. We also had special food and wine requests, and all were handled so sweetly and professionally. If I lived anywhere near this restaurant it would be my local favorite for sure !!
My late lunch was terrific. Our waitress friendly and appeared at all the "right" times. Her recomendations were spot on. Her name, Alex. I will return and order the same dish and perhaps branch out, order more and share. I dined at 1 PM to miss the lunch rush and it worked out perfectly.
Terrific Chicken Salad Sandwich!
A friend & I went to North yesterday for lunch before we went to see the Overland Park 9/11 Memorial. He has been to North many times for dinner but never for lunch.
I absolutely love their Tuscan Chicken Salad sandwich. If you haven’t tried them, order their “fries” with the sandwich. They are actually twice cooked fries. The shape is irregular and look like a frie/lattke/smashed shape. They are very good. He didn’t order the chicken salad but went for the Grilled Chicken sandwich instead, which he said was very good.
If you haven’t tried North for lunch you need to put this place on your list. Very good food and service.
Disappointing anniversary diner. This was my third visit and after this experience I won't be back. SLOW service in a restaurant that was not crowded - took 20 minutes to bring two glasses of wine to the table. The salmon was so salty my wife could hardly eat it and the amount of arugula (not noted on the menu) was unacceptable.
We were so impressed with our waiter, who seemed to know every ingredient in every dish we asked him about. The grilled cauliflower appetizer was light but delicious, standout entrees included the chicken parmesan and divers' scallops (really juicy and tasty), and the house pinot grigio wine was a great complement to the meal. Would totally recommend to friends and family.
Consistently great food; my only complaint is the pace of the meal-they bring your entrees before you are done starters/appetizers; or fail to clear your starter plate before delivering entree since it is ready so fast, forcing you to hold your starter plate while they place your entree on the table. This has happened on almost every occasion. I get they want to turn tables but it's annoying given the price you are paying for your meal and drinks and it's not a fast food restaurant.
We enjoyed a great Friday night meal at North for 4 people. We requested a booth online and they honored our request. Booths are especially nice for 4-6 people.
Friday nights are pretty lively and on the loud/energetic side. Not for everyone.
We started with a pitcher of red sangria, calamari and a charcuterie plate. The calamari is well prepared with very light breading and served with a good amount of arugula. the charcuterie was interesting. We had some pasta main dishes and salmon. Both were satisfying.
Outside dining is nice in the shoulder seasons, but most outside dining faces west so not great in the heat of the summer sun.
Sundays is a great deal for all day happy hour menu of selected menu items and drinks.
