North Italia – Austin Ratings and Reviews
Food and service are outstanding. Lunch was delivered quickly and the overall experience was very pleasant. Adjacent patio was equipped with heaters to offset the inclement weather (it was not cold enough for heaters, but they were being utilized anyway). Good food will bring me back.
To say we were disappointed with the service is an understatement. To top it off, we were "lucky" enough to have 3 different servers and yet none of them got it right. After 35 minutes we were FINALLY offered some bread as we waited for our food, and it was only offered because we asked about it. I've been wanting to bring my best friend here for years and she finally makes a trip to Austin just to have a bad customer service experience which in turn ruined our whole experience. Needless to say none of the 4 women that joined us will be returning, me included.
2/3/18 The food was amazing, the service not so much. When making the reservation I specified that it was our 1 year wedding anniversary on top of my wife being cancer free for a year. When greeted someone congratulated us and said they’re going to make our dining very special. We had our food and ate it, but when it came to “making our experience special” for our occasion nothing was done. Our check was given and nothing else special happened. I was expecting something but I was disappointed.
Loved my seasonal vegetable salad and my coworkers loved their food too including the fennel salad.
My only not so great experience was the person who brought us our food; super rude she kept shoving the plate I front of my face! Like literally she put the meatballs appetizer and liked me in the eye and said “here are your meatballs.” I said “we are sharing these actually (trying to make it less awkward)” and then she said “of course and then left it there in front of me.” Then later when my coworkers chicken salad sandwich cake she just straight up shoved in front of my nose and said “here’s your chicken salad sandwich” and I said “Jesus!” And I pointed over the plate to my coworker and said “it’s his.....”
What the heck! Put a damper on things. Great waitress, very professional, the hostesses seemed sweet, and the Austin weather made the closed off outdoor patio lovely.
I still can’t believe I had plates shoved in front of my face.
I'm a foodie and North Italia is one of my favorite restaurants! I visited this week with my family for my 47th birthday and was not disappointed. The only think I would change is to add a second location within walking distance of my house (central, near 45th and Burnet - hint, hint). ;-)
We arrived about an hour before our reservation. The restaurant was packed! The hostess did us a solid and was able to get us seated with our two young boys. The food was good as always in the restaurant had good energy. Great service in getting us in ahead our reservation!
The 4 of us enjoyed a quiet Sunday evening dinner, as North was about 50% full.
We all made light dinner choices and were pleased with the Tuscan Tomato Soup, Kale Salad, Calamari, etc. Our server was polite and attentive. He gave us the promo-birthday sign-up card, although my reservation note about this being a birthday celebration did not get transmitted apparently :)
My husband and I happily returned to North Italia for his birthday dinner. We both have go-to dishes, although we always see others go by that we think we should have tried. I am always so pleased with the Pasta Bolognese, a specialty of the house. The handmade pasta is cooked just right and the meat sauce is terrific, although it seemed a little heavier on the meat this time than I prefer. That said, it was delicious and served nice and hot, which is not that easy to come by at restaurants. I love that! My husband got the short rib radiatore, which he adores, and it was excellent again, creamy sauce, tasty meat and all-around flavorful. We started with some meatballs as an appetizer--they do them very well and a hearty portion--and we finished with the budino, a salted carmel pudding that we crave. The service is always excellent despite how busy things are and the wines by the glass are good, and are offered in three sizes.
My husband and I knew we'd be in the area shopping on my bday so we thought it would be nice to grab an early dinner nearby. We heard about the from-scratch kitchen at North Italia and saw the other great reviews and decided to make a reservation through Open Table. When they called the day-of to confirm the reservation, they asked if we wanted inside or on the patio (which is enclosed right now with heaters). It was a surprisingly nice day right before the ice storm so we sat on the patio - the right call because it can get a bit loud in the main dining area. We were sat immediately when we arrived, our waitress was friendly and helpful, the pasta was truly incredible, the pizza was decent, the zucca chips irresistible, and the salted caramel pudding was perfect (and on the house because of my birthday!). I also asked for a mock-tail and they made me a great fresh strawberry mojito without alcohol for a reasonable price ($3.50). We were very happy with the cost when the bill came - it was an affordable dinner out all things considered. I'm gonna sound like I'm 65 when I say this (I just turned 31), but it was a great value for the money. haha
Appetizers were amazing. Pizza was mediocre. My margarita pizza was very greasy and did not taste like an authentic margarita pizza. My boyfriend’s valid ID was declined when ordering a drink because he is from Europe. This has never happened before anywhere. This was very disappointing, as he was looking forward to wine with his Italian meal.
My friends and I were in Austin for a weekend getaway. This was our first time eating at North. Everything was great. The location, the service, the atmosphere, the food, the prices...all great. Gluten free options, vegan options, light fare were all there. Great place!
I’ve been to North many times, but was extremely disappointed this time around. I requested a special table for my dads birthday, which we did not get. The food was mediocre. The pizza came out to us cold. It was obnoxiously loud in the dining room area and I was unable to even have a conversation with my family bc I could not hear them. The service was good, but I have experienced much better before. I was upset because my family did not enjoy the dinner, when I had recommended this place.
We love north italia! we go as often as we can, at least every other month. Our favorite go to guilty pleasure is the Truffle Bread appetizer.
We have been a bit disappointed the past three times we have ordered this item as it has not been consistent. We would ask management to look into this in order to ensure consistency across the board no matter what day of the week.
What we love about this dish is the amazing truffle butter and melted cheese; however the last time we went there was no cheese and the butter was not even melted, just put right on top.
no matter what we will be back at north italia
