Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to its legacy. We visited Petroni Vineyard and had an amazing experience. We decided to try North Beach because it was owned by the same family. We were there to celebrate my birthday but we weren’t able to articulate that to the server because he was barely present. It was a very impersonal dinner, unlike the vineyard.

Probably a biased review, since I love NBR and recommend this to just about anyone who will listen. Friday was my birthday, and I was not disappointed. Our reservation request was fulfilled, and we had the best service from a gentleman named Spiro. When I was perplexed between ordering my fave Osso Bucco or my other fave Spaghetti Carbonara, Spiro said, "why not both?" Happy Birthday to me! Anyway, wife had the broiled halibut, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Suffice it to say if you are feeling bad about turning the calendar on another year, North Beach Restaurant will certainly make you forget about that part and give you an enjoyable evening.

I took the last reservation for the night. I arrived early only to have the waiter inform me to hurry as he was closing the kitchen in 10 minutes. When he came to the table one time he held his cell phone in his one hand and held it away. Apparently he couldn't even put it in his pocket.

The North Beach restaurant was warmly recommended by a tour guide. It turned out to be a more old fashioned, classic restaurant, than I expected. The service was very good (the waiter looked like Charlton Heston!) and the pasta of the day that we both choose was very agreeable. Other guests tended to be older and I had the impression that they might be regulars. Overall, it was OK but not special. The space is good and could be made to be really good looking. But maybe that’s not a market that they are aiming for.

I ordered the special "made to order" lasagna. Honestly, it was just average quality, maybe even less. I was disappointed.

I had to summon our waiter to get a drink and again to get some bread, which other diners near us got without asking. So the evening got off to a bad start. I ordered the Bolognese. It was delicious, but it was not an authentic Bolognese sauce. My husband liked his osso buco. My son loved his house special ravioli.

I first came here with my parents for my mom's birthday several years ago and we've been back multiple times since. The food is fantastic, every time, and we always enjoy their wine selection as well. With so many options in North Beach, this one always stands out.

We were in San Francisco for a wedding and a group of eight of us wanted to go out for some good Italian food. I found North Beach Restaurant on the Open Table list of Italian restaurants in the city, based on reviews and their menu. To say the least, we were not disappointed, everything was fantastic ! The restaurant is located in the heart of San Fran's, Little Italy section and the restaurant is an authentic local place with a long tradition and a friendly vibe. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent...they also have a very extensive wine list. A good time was had by all, I will definitely go back here again when I visit San Fran.

We were traveling through San Francisco. A friend recommended the restaurant. The veal was terrific. Pasta was very good. Good wine list. I thought I was in Italy. Lunch is served until 3 PM. Moderate prices, Lunch is a true value. Do not this miss one if you are in SF. It was so good we returned the last night of our trip. The whole staff goes out of their way to please you.

A friend of my wife recommended this restaurant as being the best Italian restaurant in San Francisco and it lived up to the recommendation.
They cure their own Prosciutto, which made the melon with Prosciutto some of the best I've ever had.
They have an extensive wine list from some of the top local wineries as well as a broad selection of wines from other countries.
Though we were one the first diners of the evening, they did not rush us to finish even as the restaurant became more crowded.
We topped off our dinner with a tour of their wine cellar as well as their curing rooms for the Prosciutto. It was a most memorable dining experience

This was our second visit in a week. During the first visit we had a great server who guided us thru the menu and ordered for us the right appetizer and main course portion for a group of 5. During our second visit we brought our wine and despite of having a corkage policy and charge of $30 per bottle the server didn’t seem too happy and was pretty miserable and unfriendly the entire evening He also helped with ordering what we wanted except ordered food to feed 10 people instead of 7. Probably my second and last visit to the restaurant

We went on Sunday evening and had reservations. After being seated it took over 25 min to get a glass of wine. The waiter, although nice to us, seemed to be spending all of his time on an 8 top at the table next to us. I felt almost as if he was just checking on us because he had to, more as an imposition than anything. He brought us our ticket pretty quickly after dinner. We all finished our first glass of wine while eating, but he never came back and asked if we would like another. Food was tasty, but we ended up leaving and going to another venue to enjoy another glass of wine one wine and dessert. We felt almost as if we were an inconvenience for our waiter. Food was pricey...it’s a shame the service was lacking, especially after having been told by so many we had to try this place.

Without a doubt, this restaurant, after all of these years, is STILL one of the best Italian places in all of North Beach, and perhaps in all of SF. The authentic Tuscan fare is seriously to die for, and as soon as you take your first bite, you feel like you've been transported to the Italian countryside. The wine list is extensive and includes an amazing selection of authentic Italian wines from all regions of Italy (we opted for a super Tuscan red). The burrata is an excellent starter, and following this, I would highly recommend the carbonara, and the osso buco. Now aside from all of the top notch wine and food, I would be remiss if I did not mention the impeccable service. If you do end up dining here, please request Spiro if possible, as he is one of the best overall waiters I have ever encountered. Aside from being extremely knowledgeable, he is one of the nicest, funniest, most pleasant people you will ever meet. He made our dining experience that much better. This restaurant has so much history and character, and I am so glad we decided to dine here. We hope to be back soon! Molto bene, grazzi!
