   From the over-cooked Calamari to the generic Meatballs and mediocre Tagliatelle with Wild Boar, the food and presentation is nothing outstanding. Branzino was well received but the hard push to purchase a bottle of wine that was 3X the cost of our chosen wine (which we were told was sold out) was not. The ambiance of the upstairs dining room and bar is very nice. There are other Italian restaurants in SF that do this same food much better.

   We found the restaurant well appointed and inviting. The server, Alan, was most attentive and helpful. The food was not great. The frito mixto was nice and crispy but lacked flavor. The calamari in it was hard and chewy. The veal piccata had a tasty sauce but the veal itself was a bit tough and hard to chew - as though it had been frozen. The Pasta del la casa was very heavy and not very flavorful . It seemed to lack the prosciutto that was supposed to be in it. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things, but our overall review of the food was negative.

   So happy that NBR has reopened. It's important for SF to have it's white tableclothed traditional old-school restaurants especially in North Beach. The joint was jumping on a Saturday night. That caused a delay for various items like drinks and main courses but we'd rather it be busy and take a bit longer than be empty and quick. Standout apps were the calamari alla Gina, named for the late mayor Moscone's wife. The ribolita was more of a traditional vegetable minsetrone than true ribolita but delicious nonetheless. The veal piccata and petrale were both cooked expertly. All they need to do is fine-tune some things, take down the Christmas decorations and we're hoping they'll be here for us locals for another 50 years! Pro tip: if you Waymo it will pick you up right in front of the restaurant because they also have dedicated valet space. No walking around looking for your Waymo!

   Wonderful family dinner. So glad the restaurant is back and doesn’t seem to have missed a step. Service was excellent, spot on. My veal piccata was perfect. Raves about the gnocchi.  Vibrant, and sophisticated scene.

   The food was excellent, particularly the lobster tail platter we had as appetizers! (Although the ceasar salad was a bit drenched, surprisingly.) Our party all enjoyed their meals, some of them from the old recipes when it was previously owned (like the sole). In all, we really enjoyed ourselves except the noise level got a bit too much as the evening went along. The rock/pop music was sort of out of touch with the experience - maybe some jazz or classical that could blend more into the background? In all, I'm very glad this storied restaurant has reopened and has a wonderful menu and experience!

   Our experience last night was less than great. I believe the language barrier with our server was a major factor. Sent drink back three times. Service was very frustrating. Too much detail to describe. Noise level was incredibly high and did not allow for conversation to be had with our guests. We were delighted when we learned they had reopened. We are visiting San Francisco for a week from Oklahoma City.  Such a disappointment. We will not be returning. Sad.
