North Beach Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We took our son here for a farewell dinner, he was off to Thailand for some fun and volunteer work. As always, we had a great dinner. We had reservations for 3, but at the last minute my other son and his fiance wanted to join us, and this busy restaurant made it happen. I always have the Carbonara when I come here, should probably try other things, but since I don't get here as often as I'd like, I stick with the dish that makes my mouth water.
I booked a reservation for 6 people for New Year's Eve. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed and a little hectic up by the host stand. Once we were acknowledged, we headed to the downstairs room (did not know about) which was really cool! Had a different atmosphere than the upstairs but just as classy and well maintained. Our server was fantastic! He really made our meal enjoyable and was very knowledgeable about the wine and food menu. He was very accommodating with our requests and did not rush us at all. The food was very delicious and everyone enjoyed their dishes. There are lots of great Italian restaurants in North Beach and in San Francisco so I had high expectations with North Beach Restaurant and my expectations were certainly exceeded!! We will definitely return.
We had dinner on New Years Eve. Our total experience was delightful. We started with the Antipasto Toscano for Two: Home-Cured Prosciutto, Salame, Cheese, Marinated Calamari, Veal Shank, Beans and Salsa Verde. I am a fan of Prosciutto di Parma and was concerned the Home-Cured would not be as good. The Home-Cured was excellent. My partner does not eat seafood but when he tasted the marinated calamari he ate more than his half, and ordered the calamari-fritti for his main course which was prepared to perfection, accompanied by excellent sauces. I chose Veal Saltimbocca alla Nerone - Chef's Creation. Delicious. We finished dinner sharing Cold Zabaglione - Della Casa: an ending to a perfect meal. Service was superb. Corkage fee for our bottle of Dom Perignon was $35.00. We selected wines by the glass: the Barbera and Sauvignon Blanc suggested by our waiter were perfect accompaniments to our main course. The authentic Tuscan cuisine speaks for The North Beach Restaurant's longevity founded in 1970. Often we can not recall "what we did" on previous New Years celebrations. We will always remember celebration 2018 at The North Beach Restaurant. Thank you for a superb evening.
Great food and service on New Year's Eve. The waiter commented that they were really overbooked but he did a great job of staying on top of everything we needed with an excellent attitude. And the food was delicious. As we entered, the person we checked in with also commented on my online request for a quiet, romantic table as a surprise for my boyfriend and did his best to accommodate us. it was still pretty noisy there but I think that's common at every good Italian restaurant . This great dining experience complemented the rest of the activities on an excellent New Year's eve
We attended for a dinner on New Year's Eve so perhaps the increased level of patrons led to its downfall. The service was incredibly slow. When we ordered we were told there could be no substitutions, even when we were willing to pay. The chicken marsala was the worst I have ever had. It tasted like candied chicken and was entirely inedible. Unless the recipe changes, it should be taken off the menu completely. Overall it was a highly disappointing experience, at a hefty price tag.
A legend that continues to live up to its deserved reputation. Thankfully the techies don't have taste otherwise this landmark would be ruined. Keep up the outstanding work and professional, old school/world yet quirky service. Outstanding. And I weep just thinking about the vodka sauce and the veal. Ambiance? Accept it for what it is, and not for what it does not pretend to be, thankfully.
I took my wife there for our 14th anniversary she loved it the staff is great the food if off the charts even though they were busy they made you feel like you were the only people there i was raised italian family so believe me it the real Toscana deal
Osso Bucco the best i ever have had
Travelled 7 hours by plane to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It was significant so we could have gone anywhere, she picked North Beach as it’s been good in the past. We booked through OpenTable and specified the table we wanted. They got it wrong, we had to wait at the bar until it cleared. When we ordered the food was poorly spiced (kitchen was quite busy) and pretty ordinary. The pasta was wrong, we kept it as the waiter sold us on his mistakes. His pick of wine and pasta, not ours. WE WILL SADLY REMEMBER THE EVENING DOR ALL THE WRING REASONS. Don’t think we’ll be back.
Whenever we are in SFO, we head to North Beach for dinner. Food is excellent and staff very personable and happy to make recommendations. If possible, we prefer the downstairs seating but upstairs is fine as well. This past visit was quite noisy due to holiday crowd. In spite of a full house, service was excellent.
Been several times. Never going back. This was a waste of time and money! Service-hectic, disorganized, server kept attempting to “up sell” our order; seated in a thoroughfare; noise level- deafening; Used to be a lively neighborhood gem; it has changed drastically for the worst to be an overpriced tourist trap with poor quality. Too bad. Its’ time has obviously long past!
Food was just ok. Merlot served at the bar was warm and weak. Escargot was served in a lemon butter sauce but not particularly special. Small main serving of Ciopino was bland and fetechini Alfredo was just ok. Next time we’ll probably go back to Stinkin Rose, as their food is more garlicky. Service was good.
We have eaten here several times. It is always an enjoyable experience with fantastic service. Our waiter's have made excellent recommendations each time that have always added to our positive experience. We will continue to come back and bring our friends.
My husband and I visited North Beach Restaurant before heading to see Beach Blanket Babylon on our anniversary. We were unfortunately running late due to horrible traffic on the bridge and the restaurant was very understanding and accommodating when I called to tell them we would be late for our reservation. The staff was also very personable and helpful with their recommendations. We both enjoyed our meal, a great bottle of wine and a delicious chocolate dessert.
This was not our first time at North Beach. Reservations were made months in advance.
It was a Saturday evening at 6:30, but we asked to be seated in the back room, and they were unable to accomodate that, and we were seated next to the bar along the walk area. The tables are very close together and even the waiter had to walk sideways to get between them. the waiter had no personality.
Short version: felt very rushed, the soup came out before our antipasto ( we ordered the tomatoes with anchovies and got 2 orders), the waiter tried to take away my soup before I was done, needed to ask for cheese. For our entree, my husband order the Cioppino and I had the Chicken Piccata. Cioppino very disappointing. Mostly white fish, 2 mussels, a few prawns, no Crab and lots of white fish. My chicken was good. For dessert I like to get the semifreddo. What I was served was the tiramisu and the worst espresso I have ever drank ( did not take more then a sip) .We brought our own bottle of wine which we love, and would do again, only I did not realize the corkage charge was $30.00. Seems a bit high. Next time we will not come on a weekend, or try another place.
This restaurant has no business saying they are open till 11:30 pm since although our reservation was at that time the waiter rushed us to order within 3 minutes even though there were other people still in the restaurant. The food was over priced for what you get and although the food came out fast because the employees wanted to leave early, the service after that was slow.
