North Beach Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Food was just ok. Merlot served at the bar was warm and weak. Escargot was served in a lemon butter sauce but not particularly special. Small main serving of Ciopino was bland and fetechini Alfredo was just ok. Next time we’ll probably go back to Stinkin Rose, as their food is more garlicky. Service was good.
We have eaten here several times. It is always an enjoyable experience with fantastic service. Our waiter's have made excellent recommendations each time that have always added to our positive experience. We will continue to come back and bring our friends.
My husband and I visited North Beach Restaurant before heading to see Beach Blanket Babylon on our anniversary. We were unfortunately running late due to horrible traffic on the bridge and the restaurant was very understanding and accommodating when I called to tell them we would be late for our reservation. The staff was also very personable and helpful with their recommendations. We both enjoyed our meal, a great bottle of wine and a delicious chocolate dessert.
This was not our first time at North Beach. Reservations were made months in advance.
It was a Saturday evening at 6:30, but we asked to be seated in the back room, and they were unable to accomodate that, and we were seated next to the bar along the walk area. The tables are very close together and even the waiter had to walk sideways to get between them. the waiter had no personality.
Short version: felt very rushed, the soup came out before our antipasto ( we ordered the tomatoes with anchovies and got 2 orders), the waiter tried to take away my soup before I was done, needed to ask for cheese. For our entree, my husband order the Cioppino and I had the Chicken Piccata. Cioppino very disappointing. Mostly white fish, 2 mussels, a few prawns, no Crab and lots of white fish. My chicken was good. For dessert I like to get the semifreddo. What I was served was the tiramisu and the worst espresso I have ever drank ( did not take more then a sip) .We brought our own bottle of wine which we love, and would do again, only I did not realize the corkage charge was $30.00. Seems a bit high. Next time we will not come on a weekend, or try another place.
This restaurant has no business saying they are open till 11:30 pm since although our reservation was at that time the waiter rushed us to order within 3 minutes even though there were other people still in the restaurant. The food was over priced for what you get and although the food came out fast because the employees wanted to leave early, the service after that was slow.
Wonderful service, great ambience, very good and authentic Italian food, reasonably priced. We came after the show and were really treated like kings by a wonderful staff, our table was just perfect. Thanks to all the employees- we will be back.
Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to its legacy. We visited Petroni Vineyard and had an amazing experience. We decided to try North Beach because it was owned by the same family. We were there to celebrate my birthday but we weren’t able to articulate that to the server because he was barely present. It was a very impersonal dinner, unlike the vineyard.
Probably a biased review, since I love NBR and recommend this to just about anyone who will listen. Friday was my birthday, and I was not disappointed. Our reservation request was fulfilled, and we had the best service from a gentleman named Spiro. When I was perplexed between ordering my fave Osso Bucco or my other fave Spaghetti Carbonara, Spiro said, "why not both?" Happy Birthday to me! Anyway, wife had the broiled halibut, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Suffice it to say if you are feeling bad about turning the calendar on another year, North Beach Restaurant will certainly make you forget about that part and give you an enjoyable evening.
I took the last reservation for the night. I arrived early only to have the waiter inform me to hurry as he was closing the kitchen in 10 minutes. When he came to the table one time he held his cell phone in his one hand and held it away. Apparently he couldn't even put it in his pocket.
The North Beach restaurant was warmly recommended by a tour guide. It turned out to be a more old fashioned, classic restaurant, than I expected. The service was very good (the waiter looked like Charlton Heston!) and the pasta of the day that we both choose was very agreeable. Other guests tended to be older and I had the impression that they might be regulars. Overall, it was OK but not special. The space is good and could be made to be really good looking. But maybe that’s not a market that they are aiming for.
I had to summon our waiter to get a drink and again to get some bread, which other diners near us got without asking. So the evening got off to a bad start. I ordered the Bolognese. It was delicious, but it was not an authentic Bolognese sauce. My husband liked his osso buco. My son loved his house special ravioli.
I first came here with my parents for my mom's birthday several years ago and we've been back multiple times since. The food is fantastic, every time, and we always enjoy their wine selection as well. With so many options in North Beach, this one always stands out.
I took my wife there for our honeymoon dinner. We absolutely loved it. The food was fabulous and the ambient was fantastic. Our waiter, Luis, was very accommodating, attentive and an outright nice person. I would recommend North Beach Restaurant to anyone that love good Italian food.
We were in San Francisco for a wedding and a group of eight of us wanted to go out for some good Italian food. I found North Beach Restaurant on the Open Table list of Italian restaurants in the city, based on reviews and their menu. To say the least, we were not disappointed, everything was fantastic ! The restaurant is located in the heart of San Fran's, Little Italy section and the restaurant is an authentic local place with a long tradition and a friendly vibe. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent...they also have a very extensive wine list. A good time was had by all, I will definitely go back here again when I visit San Fran.
We were traveling through San Francisco. A friend recommended the restaurant. The veal was terrific. Pasta was very good. Good wine list. I thought I was in Italy. Lunch is served until 3 PM. Moderate prices, Lunch is a true value. Do not this miss one if you are in SF. It was so good we returned the last night of our trip. The whole staff goes out of their way to please you.
