We celebrate special times at this restaurant. It was our 51st anniversary. We had a window table, impeccable service, and a great dessert. It was unusual as the restaurant was not busy because of the coronavirus situation. Was glad we were able to get one night out before all of the restaurants closed.
The quality of the food and service has not changed since I first visited this temple of Tuscan delights 40 years ago. The artwork on the walls, including Miro lithographs and one original Miro oil, and the formally dressed waiters contribute to the cultured ambience. This past week my wife and I had filet of sole and lamb with Barolo sauce, respectively, and found them prepared perfectly. I will continue to recommend the North Beach Restaurant to my family and friends who visit San Francisco.

Outstanding Old World Charm & SERVICE. The waiter (who has worked there for 30 years) was very knowledgeable and helpful and provided excellent service to go with wonderful food.

I love going to North Beach Restaurant! The valet parking makes a spontaneous, or a well-planned event more reliable. The Eggplant Parmesan is delicious!

Booked here for a Valentine's dinner with my sweetie based on positive reviews on OpenTable. When we first arrived, I was pleased with the choice because unlike most SF restaurants, there's actually distance between you and the next table; a rare commodity in SF.
But my heart sank a bit when the waiter presented the menus and they were laminated, certainly not something I would expect in a restaurant with $30 - $40 entrees. The bread and butter were both stone cold and the salad was mediocre. The entrees were decent.
From what I can tell, most of the diners were tourists. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but a red flag that locals who've eaten here might not return.
So if a bit more space than you'll get in most SF restaurants is really important to you, this would be an OK choice. Otherwise, you'll find Michelin starred restaurants in SF with comparable prices.
As always the food was prepared perfectly with the finest ingredients you can taste. The service is very good. The team knows it’s craft.
The only negative comment is that we felt a bit rushed. We actually had to ask that the pace be slowed. We were there to dine not eat and run. Our serve accommodated the request but we still felt like it was a bit quick.

One of my very favorite restaurants in SF. Our server, Luis, was a Prince. The Oso Buco was to die for. My date had the Salmon steak sautéed, excellent. Can’t wait to go back.
No-nonsense professionalism and pride characterizes the staff, who are friendly in a dignified way. The North Beach Restaurant is like a reliable old friend, a place you can count on to deliver a pleasant evening over straightforward Tuscan food made well and served in generous portions. The bar delivers good cocktails, the wine list is smart and high quality.

This restaurant is a classic in North Beach. The service is very attentive and respectful. The food is plentiful (no small plates here or ornamental minuscule art pieces), and the quality is superb. This place is my go-to restaurant when entertaining out of town guests.

An satisfying dining experience. Our waiter, Spiro D, was extremely professional and provided excellent recommendations for few menu items which I was not familiar with. The polenta soup was new for me and proved to be very tasty with a unique texture; the cannelloni had a perfect balance of pasta, meat, cheese and sauce. Even the chocolate marquis mousse was different from other mousses I have tried,not too sweet or heavy. All this and the price was very reasonable; if I make it back to San Francisco I would definitely return to North Beach Restaurant!

Such a disappointment. Had been recommended but we were shown downstairs to a dark empty room and when we said we did not like dining alone were told there was a party of 10 and others coming. The party of 10 came but no one else. The party of three behind us must have been seated in the upstairs dining room as well as every other group that came !!! What we did to deserve such treatment I am not sure. Our waiter clearly wished to be somewhere else, tried to get us to order other $$ things from the menu, very rushed meal service, clearing plates before others were finished. last bit if wine poured into one (the male of the party) glass !!
Put down one pasta dish and mumbled something - when we questioned why the puttanesca did not have any olives we were told “southern italy” None of us have ever had one without or found a recipe that does not have olives! Seafood risotto was floating in about 1/4 inch of oil . Food about average, just edible. Extortionate wine prices. All in all a very unhappy experience. We will not be back many many other Italian restaurants with great food and friendly service. Not worth the $300.00 for 3 people. Go somewhere else.
good pasta. the veal dishes are so-so. I would recommend the restaurant allows for veal dishes to be ordered with a side of pasta instead of potatoes.
Never disappoints. Especially appreciated the sauces this visit.
Parking valet was the only negative. Its run by a contractor but management should still exercise oversight. We waited 5+ mins for valet who was NOT busy parking a car.

Excellent Tuscany cuisine. The Ciopino was great and the Scallops to die for. Extensive wine list as well. The service impeccable, the ambiance a bit old fashioned but warm and cozy.
For this price point of a restaurant the service was very rushed, seemed to be more about table turnover rather than a dining experience. Food was okay but nothing special. We were sat in the basement, the “wine cellar” which wasn’t all that great. Disappointed since this was for New Year’s Eve celebration.

The swordfish was dry and a little tough, the caesar salad was nondescript, but the pricing is still like a top-notch restaurant. (The veal piccata was pretty good though.) We were seated in the back of the basement section, which has NO ambiance. The upstairs was hopping (with George Schultz and Willie Brown in the house!), but it was pretty flat downstairs. Disappointing, because this used to be one of our favorite restaurants.
