Such a disappointment. Had been recommended but we were shown downstairs to a dark empty room and when we said we did not like dining alone were told there was a party of 10 and others coming. The party of 10 came but no one else. The party of three behind us must have been seated in the upstairs dining room as well as every other group that came !!! What we did to deserve such treatment I am not sure. Our waiter clearly wished to be somewhere else, tried to get us to order other $$ things from the menu, very rushed meal service, clearing plates before others were finished. last bit if wine poured into one (the male of the party) glass !!
Put down one pasta dish and mumbled something - when we questioned why the puttanesca did not have any olives we were told “southern italy” None of us have ever had one without or found a recipe that does not have olives! Seafood risotto was floating in about 1/4 inch of oil . Food about average, just edible. Extortionate wine prices. All in all a very unhappy experience. We will not be back many many other Italian restaurants with great food and friendly service. Not worth the $300.00 for 3 people. Go somewhere else.
good pasta. the veal dishes are so-so. I would recommend the restaurant allows for veal dishes to be ordered with a side of pasta instead of potatoes.
Never disappoints. Especially appreciated the sauces this visit.
Parking valet was the only negative. Its run by a contractor but management should still exercise oversight. We waited 5+ mins for valet who was NOT busy parking a car.
Birthday! It was great.
It was amazing, the food was delicious and have such a friendly staff.
A little more expensive than I thought it would be but worth it. I’m
Great food and great service. I had the gnocchi and they were excellent. The home made prosciutto is a must to order. You will not be disappointed
Excellent Tuscany cuisine. The Ciopino was great and the Scallops to die for. Extensive wine list as well. The service impeccable, the ambiance a bit old fashioned but warm and cozy.
For this price point of a restaurant the service was very rushed, seemed to be more about table turnover rather than a dining experience. Food was okay but nothing special. We were sat in the basement, the “wine cellar” which wasn’t all that great. Disappointed since this was for New Year’s Eve celebration.
Very good food and good service considering it was New Eve.Had a very good time
The swordfish was dry and a little tough, the caesar salad was nondescript, but the pricing is still like a top-notch restaurant. (The veal piccata was pretty good though.) We were seated in the back of the basement section, which has NO ambiance. The upstairs was hopping (with George Schultz and Willie Brown in the house!), but it was pretty flat downstairs. Disappointing, because this used to be one of our favorite restaurants.
North Beach Restaurant was the place to be on New Year's Eve 2019. It was full of Beach Blanket
Babylon fans attending the final show of that fabled institution. Celebrities were everywhere. Why? Because the North Beach restaurant is also an SF institution, and the perfect place to go for an event anywhere in the North Beach area. Great food, knowledgeable waiters, and you could have dinner next to Nancy Pelosi, Gavin Newsom, Willie Brown, George Schulz and Charlotte Maillard, Diane Feinstein, Clive Davis, and Box Scaggs. It won't be like this every night, but it will be like this again...some night soon.
Very good food and attentive staff.
Classic North Beach Italian. Food is acceptable - nothing special or out of the ordinary.
Delicious, our waiter was attentive and wonderful.
It was very nice ! Service was good , perfect for our get together!
We got to the restaurant only to be told that they cannot give us a table by the window as we requested in our reservation. There were 2 empty tables by the window and we asked why would they not give us one of these tables as they are available? The reply was that all tables by the window were being kept for special people who come here all the time. We were pointed to a table next to the restrooms. We decided that that is not a restaurant I want to spend money at and left. I visited Italy this summer and no one treated me like this. It was offensive. DO NoT loose your time! Go elsewhere!
So very good!
The waiter was pushy and constantly tried to “up sell” us. He was confusing and mis leading. The meal was not of good value, we were a part of 8 and most were not satisfied.
The only negative is the lack of leisurely enjoyment. From the moment you’re seated the rush to order drinks and simultaneously order appetizers and entrees begins. And, they don’t wait until everyone at the table is through eating before they start to clear as much of the table as they can so that the slowest eater eats alone. One more thing, every time we go they have Osso Buco as a SPECIAL— it’s time to put it on the menu — same for the house made burrata.
Food was very good but service was very rushed. Waited 15 on minutes to order and then food was thrown at us. Had 8:45 reservation and was done before 10 with an appetizer and main course for three people.
Just a great experience for a holiday meal. Feels like a locals place. Food was fantastic as always.
Excellent menu & service! Didn't hurt that it was waiter's birthday.
A North Beach Classic! We had an amazing family dinner, with delicious food and attentive friendly service, we couldn’t have had a better time. Thank you, North Beach Restaurant!
Food was great but service was a little spotty as our waiter was quite busy.
Perfect North Beach restaurant. Great menu.
Food was delicious!
They never disappoint. Service and food are always excellent.
The service was very good. The restaurant was completely filled, so the noise level was high.
Very busy....NEED reservations.
No reservation...expect a long wait.
Food was delicious, loved the atmosphere. Service was slow and not attentive, they never refilled our water glasses, we had to find the water pitcher ourselves. They took our leftovers to package up and never brought them back, probably through them out.
Traveling in San Fran .. food was awesome. Service wasn’t great but the food made it worth the lack luster service
We had a late lunch pre Beach Blanket babylon and the location worked well for us.I enjoyed the waiters in their suits - very Old-School SF. We were apart of 5 and the service was a bit slow given the early time - but we were in no rush so it wasn't a big problem. Everyone enjoyed their food and the wine list was very nice. I would certainly go back. The valet parking was appreciated given the very limited options in the neighborhood.
Finally has a chance to meet Lorenzos(RIP), Leo. I got to share a few stories with Leo as I worked on his dads refrigeration many years ago. Nothing has changed, fantastic as always. And if I am not mistaken the Filet has definitely increased in size. My first date ever with my wife. My number one place in all of San Francisco.
The food was as good as ever . best veal in San Francisco period . Hard to go wrong on any part of the menu . Service is very good . Parking will test your karma . Better to valet in North Beach . However I recommend lunch over dinner. The volume and noise level is near rock concert or jet engine. It was nearly impossible to have a conversation. Much better at lunch without the bar scene.
Great evening (as usual) at North Beach Restaurant.
Wonderful food and wine selections.
Waiter was very rude. He was mad about something. He wouldn’t answer our questions. He was irritated that we didn’t order wine and the amount of appetizers he thought we should get. We had to ask for EVERYTHING. He got our order wrong but we didn’t dare say anything to him because he was so mean.
There is only one way to describe the North Beach Restaurant experience: Yesterday's stew in every way. Everything is out of date particularly the menu. It's understandable that it's still being patronizing by the local politicians. It has to be the dullest experience in the North Beach corridor. How it still survives today is unbelievable.
